| 2 | Eight essays. Six comprehensions. Four content chapters. Our weekly GP class spends eleven lessons on them. The GP September Intensive is those eleven lessons in three days of the holidays.
Tuesday 8 September, six comprehensions, 10am to 3pm. Friday 11 September, eight essays, 10am to 3pm. Saturday 12 September, the Study Rush, 10am to 5.30pm. Saturday is four lessons of ninety minutes, one per chapter.
The 136 page September Intensive booklet has four content chapters and eight worked essay scaffolds. The comprehension papers book has six complete papers to the current 8881/02 format, with answer keys.
JC1s and JC2s both come, in person or on Zoom. We teach at Upper Serangoon, which people also call Kovan.
All eight essay questions are printed on the page, so you can see what you would be writing.

| 3 | SKILLS3 is the essay chapter of our Term 3 book, General Paper Volume 3. The whole chapter is free, pages 145 to 168. You do not need to fill in a form.
The chapter has five model answers. Three of them are complete essays, and two are worked paragraphs.
Every model answer has a column beside it, saying why each paragraph is built that way. One note picks apart the opening paragraph, down to why it avoids "in today's world".
Part 7 sorts past A-Level questions into ten types. "To what extent" and "in your society" are the small words that change the type.
You can use it whatever topics you have covered so far. If you read one part, read Part 7.

| 6 | There used to be three ways to get the Last Minute Guide to JC1 Promos: be an ETG student, catch us outside your school, or trial a class.
It is now free on the website. All 48 pages, read on the page or download the PDF, and there is no form.
www.tuitiongenius.com/free/last-minute-guide
The three pages above are the ones to start with.
Page 8, what the JC1 promos actually test. Five Micro topics, and which two deserve most of the weeks you have left. If you are H1 it also tells you what to skip.
Page 9, OCDS. A thirty second read of the question before you write a word, so you answer the question that was actually asked.
Page 27, the plan for the time you actually have, four weeks or two. One essay and one case study every week, written and marked.
The six model essays inside are condensed to fit the book. ETG students get the full versions in the 50 Model Essays bank, issued in class.

| 7 | The early-bird rate for the September Intensive was closing tonight. We are extending it to 9pm on 3 September.
Until then: $600 for the J1 H2 pack, $680 for the J2 H1 pack, $980 for the J2 H2 pack.
After 9pm on 3 September they are $650, $750 and $1,050. The J1 pack with the four Mock Promo exams stays at $1,040 either way.
Registrations inside that window also keep the Exam Prep Summary booklets, Micro with the J1 packs, Micro and Macro with the J2 packs.
The three days are 7, 9 and 10 September.

| 8 | Sunday, something different. No programmes.
Roger Federer played 1,526 matches and won almost 80% of them. 103 titles, 20 Grand Slams, 237 straight weeks as world number one.
Two years after retiring, he told a graduation hall the number nobody expected. Of all the points he ever played, he won 54%.
The greatest of all time lost 46 of every 100 points. And here is what he said about it: "When you lose every second point, on average, you learn not to dwell on every shot."
Your revision works the same way. An essay that comes back 12 out of 25 is a point, not the match. The students who collect As in November are not the ones who stop losing points. They are the ones who take the correction, give it three seconds, and play the next question with full attention.
More than half is enough, if you keep playing.
I am cheering for all of you.

| 9 | An exam question for your Saturday.
Single use plastics are considered harmful to the environment because of littering as well as greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, the Israeli government has a policy of ensuring supermarkets charge 3 cents for each plastic bag. The Singapore government has rejected a move to impose a tax but believes that the correct approach is to provide public education.
(a) Explain two policies that can be used to address market failure from the consumption of single-use plastics. [10]
(b) Discuss the constraints and unintended consequences of such policies. [15]
Give it fifteen minutes. Two key points, a diagram for each, a stand for part (b).
That is Question 2 of the twelve Micro essays at the Level 2 Essay Bootcamp on 10 September.
Why the three days are worth it. By September the content is mostly taught. What decides the grade now is production: an unfamiliar question in front of you, and writing something that scores in the time you are given. That comes from doing questions and from watching questions taken apart.
My benchmark for a JC student is 50 essays and 50 case studies a year. Many of the students I meet are writing one or two of each a month, so 8 to 16 by the end of August. The Level 2 Bootcamps put 24 essays and 16 case studies in front of you across two days. JC1 students take the Micro half, 12 essays and 8 case studies.
7 September, the Study Sprint. Five lessons of ninety minutes, 10am to 7.30pm, about 25 exam questions across the day, and a notes package with every lesson.
9 September, sixteen case studies, from 9am. JC1 to about 1.45pm, JC2 H1 10.30am to about 4.30pm, JC2 H2 to about 6pm.
10 September, twenty-four essays, from 9am. JC1 to about 12.30pm, JC2 to about 5pm.
Every question is printed in your booklet with a full suggested answer and assigned as homework first, so you arrive having already fought with it. Then I take each one apart on the day.

| 13 | A student who joined us right before her prelims.
Amanda, from RI. When she came in: "I was kind of lost as to what I should study and how I can improve my grades so fast."
What changed was not more content. "We were going through the points and how it should be written and the structure, instead of just the content."
And when prelims came: "I saw the questions, I didn't feel like it was very new."
The full interview is four minutes:

| 14 | JC2s, something a parent asked me this week.
Their child scored a U on a recent test. Two months to the A Levels. Is an A still possible?
I said no. That is not really up to us.
But I run something for exactly this spot. 24 essays in one day. 16 case studies in another. More than many students have written all year, and that is the point: a large volume, fast, guided, and you start seeing the patterns.
Painful. But it might be what some students need.

| 15 | JC1s, this one is for you.
Promos are about a month away. My JC1 students sit Mock Promo 1 this week, the first of four before the real thing.
When I set those four papers I mapped them against the JC1 Micro syllabus. 59 concepts, 160 questions. 14 concepts turn up in every single paper.
I have put the whole map up, including the 14 concepts my papers do not test at all and what to do about those on your own.

| 16 | πΈπ¬ The National Day Rally is at 8pm tonight.
Singapore recorded about 27,500 resident births in 2025. Down 11% in a single year, the lowest ever recorded, and the fertility rate fell to 0.87. Replacement is 2.1.
So I think tonight is the family Rally. I have written four predictions and published them before the speech, so you can check me at 10pm.

Also: a lot of you ask me how to write an evaluation. I have put my six evaluation moves and eight sentence stems on the site, free, nothing to sign up for.
