| 2 | hello guys!! here's a list of things you should not be worrying about now (and ever), and i'm going to logically justify them so that you actually won't worry:
1. if you don't remember your vocab, screw it man. creative writing ended in sec school. gp is training you to think logically and write academic essays for uni, work and life - in uni, we are all graded on clarity and simplicity of language. because do you really know what you're saying if you can't explain it to a 5 year old?
a person who can explain his ideas so simply that even a child can comprehend, apparently has a deep understanding of the idea and greater command of the language that a person whose essay is chim af. so don't mix up the two - the ideas can be chim, but the language should to be simple, direct, effective.
2. if you can't memorise anymore, it's fine, leave it. just take the last few hours to read through and refresh your brain on the materials. just understand, and that's enough. you will cover more ground too.
i'm not just saying for the sake of it. but the human brain really works this way - as long as you've read and understood most of what you read, if someone brings a relevant issue up, you will naturally be reminded of it and be able to talk about it.
this brings me to 3. don't panic if you really can't recall certain statistics or hard facts - just describe their magnitude or the importance in words instead. because you know what's more important than the examples? the implication of the example - what does this example tell us about XXX? how does this example support your argument? that's the key.
Cambridge NEVER expects you to be Google. they expect you to be someone who can make sense of what Google gives you.
4. you know when you start a new game, the tutorial will tell you, ok, here, right click to shoot, here, double click, here, press space to jump? but when you actually play the game, nobody remembers the frikkin tutorial, they just play the game.
essay structures in your gp lessons are also like step-by-step tutorials. your only task in the alevel paper 1 is tell them what you think to the question they asked.
don't do things mechanically. there is no rule for you absolutely needing to have an evaluation here, a rebuttal there or whatever. all these are suggestions and possibilities. be confident and just write your essay. because at the end of the day, what matters is only your ideas and the quality of your ideas.
if you're planning to lose sleep over any of these, or let any of these get to your head during the exam, it is not worth it at all.

| 3 | for intro, i have a suggestion thatâs actually possible considering itâs 2 days to your paper 1: find a few quotes that reflect the importance of the topic youâre preparing for.
i know quotes are very cliche, but if your quote is one that echos your stance, or draws attention to something important that you want to convey, like the importance of discussing the question itself, it is a highly effective quote that leads in to your essay. and it's something you can actually memorise before the exam now hehe.
think of yourself not as a student taking the exams, but someone who really needs to write about what you're writing. you feel strongly about needing to write this - and you need to tell whoever's reading this why this essay is important. that's the purpose of the intro.
once you understand this purpose, you will be much more able to write an effective intro that makes them think, okay, i should read this. whether you use quotes, use statistics to show the importance or something, or whatever.
i just googled picasso quotes and a bunch of them came out:
âEveryone wants to understand art. Why not try to understand the song of a bird? Why does one love the night flowers, everyone around one, without trying to understand them?â
âWe all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given to us to understand.â
actually once you read these quotes, you also can immediately think of relevant argument points, like that the art helps us to understand ourselves, art tells stories that we can't with words and enable us to feel extraordinary emotions which is important to the human experience blabla. that's why quotes are usually the safest because any argument that's roughly talking about similar things can fit and be relevant to it. they cover such a large scope. | 0 |

for me, i include. basically i just addressed in the beginning of my essay what i define as art, then why these statues, artifacts, architectures or whatever that i want to include in the essay is considered art.
you guys can see from my gp daily news on sg art and architectures that it can be considered art (based on my definition of art), and thatâs how i actually answered a lot of art essay questions.
i didnât get marked as going off topic bc i explicitly identified what art is (to me anyway), and whatâs included.

| 7 | main goal for summary is to convey the main point of the passage in a more or less organized and systematic manner - so both are okay!!
whichever flows better for you, for that specific passage, is the better one.
sometimes the solutions are specific to one impact or cause, then perhaps you can decide to put it right after.
for positive and negative impacts, i usually separate them bc it makes my summary easier to read and less confusing :-)
so the benchmark or the goal for organization of your summary points is clear and easy to read. no hard and fast rules for how to do it exactly!!
explicitly use words like ânegative impactâ, âsolutionâ to tell the reader what point it is. | 0 |
| 8 | okay i just remembered how i did it hahahaha. so i just paraphrase the points on foolscap, like in a list format/point form rather than writing the entire para.
because paraphrasing and cutting words is a key part of the process of doing your summary qn. so it really requires a lot of cancelling. esp when you think of a better way to paraphrase it (which then makes it rlly crucial to change it in your answer bc youâre being awarded for the quality of your paraphrasing).

| 12 | one thing i probably wouldnât spent too much time on though, is vocab. i feel like itâs rlly not the most productive, especially if youâre purely just memorizing vocab words.
ok but THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT PLSPLSPLS IDK IF YOUR TEACHER MENTIONED THIS:
pls before you go into the exam hall, know what time your paper starts, know what time you have to start summary section, what time you have to start AQ section. same for paper 1!
if not, youâll literally be a mess youâll be so anxious in the exams as youâre keeping time. so know it beforehand.
say your paper 2 starts at 10:30am (this is from your actual exam timetable), then at
10:40 finish scanning questions/reading the passages and start on SAQ,
11:15 start on summary,
11:35 start on AQ.
make sure you know this is how youâll be doing the exams. IT HELPED ME SO MUCH when i was taking Aâs.
btw the timings are not suggestions i actually canât rmb how long we normally take on every section, so itâs just an example :-D | 0 |

for paper 2, iâd personally focus on AQ bc itâs really one of the things i can actually prepare for. as long as i know the characteristics and underlying logic, iâm more or less able to argue regardless of the topic. you guys also have the sg101 resource to shorten your revision time and boost the quality hahaha :-)
ofc there are the qn types that you should familiarize yourself with. but i just feel that as long as i donât do too badly in SAQ, iâll use AQ to boost my marks!!
but if youâre really good at SAQ, itâll be worth to revise and make sure you ace it!!
for paper 1, i would go all in on a small number of topics that iâve decided on (resource packages, essay outlines, everyth), then read all the gp daily news entries (bc itâs the most comprehensive) and pick a few resources here and there to make sure iâm not 0% prepared if (TOUCHWOOD) all my topics donât come out. | 0 |

morning pals!! a big part of technology essay discussions is usually ethics and morals - the âshould âŠâ questions.
so hereâs a quick overview of a main argument/reasoning against driverless vehicles: AI cannot take credit or responsibility.
you guys know of the trolley dilemma of whether you should go straight and kill 5 people, or swerve and kill 2 people instead or sth? iâm pretty sure we (like the human population, including philosophical perspectives) have not yet come to a consensus on what is morally right.
this moral machine link illustrates the same thing - click in and you'll just realise how difficult it is to decide who to sacrifice. but without this consensus on which choice is right, how can we program AI to execute a particular action when faced with such a scenario? should we program it to swerve or go straight? to kill 2 or kill 5?
and who takes the responsibility afterwards? the AI canât, so then will the programmer?
so it's really a very complex ethical debate, and the conclusion is that unless this is settled, it will be considered even highly unethical and irresponsible to use driverless vehicles, especially in relatively low controlled situations.
(this is why i tend to argue for AI not being allowed on open roads where pedastrians are and where things are very unpredictable!!) | 0 |

| 17 | anw, for those asking me about how to start studying for gp now đđ here are some tips :-)
> focus on gp daily news or any set of rather comprehensive examples. perhaps you can read and internalize 2-3 a day from now. itâll help to space out your revision!! then it doesnât seem that daunting anymore.
> work with what you have. donât spend anymore time researching, unless itâs just a quick search for argument points or to confirm certain details of your examples. itâll stress you out because there are endless things in the world to cover!! so focus on content that is readily available and that youâre already relatively familiar with.
> if itâs still possible to book consults with your teacher, think through and jot down a few essay outlines. cover as much ground as possible in the few consults you have left. itâs good to just have a few that you rlly need to clarify, try to ask more varied essays and questions rather than similar ones, then improve and go back to them. itâs the fastest way to improve because you do nothing blindly and waste no time trying to figure out things when youâre not too sure if itâs okay or not.

| 19 | hi guys, for the issue on poverty, i think itâs a pretty common argument point to say that education, opportunities etc. are also very important to alleviating poverty or bringing people out of poverty.
itâs a standard valid point!! and below are just two really straightforward but very telling examples/phenomenon we see irl:
1. it is normal for poor people who win the lottery to eventually go back to their original state. this shows that the issue isnât just being given money or earning money, but knowing what to do with it (which requires education, opportunities and such).
2. have you guys seen Undercover Billionaire? where people who were once successful were stripped of everything to restart again, and most of them succeeded again, achieving the million-dollar valuation goal by the end of 90 days. if they didnât, they didnât fall too short. this shows that experience, education, wisdom, EQ and such are also important.
these two examples are rlly good as theyâre both ends of the extreme, and can be used together to effectively draw the contrast, to convey clearly what alleviating poverty is not all about, and what else it required. yay!!!!!!!!!! | 0 |
