🇨🇳 : 📏 🩲 ⚠️ 📖 CHINA: A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ✍️Written by Hikaru Kitabayashi✍️ Due to concern based on a 46-year academic research career in Japan which involved acquiring an intimate knowledge of China, Chinese people, and modern Chinese history, it seems useful to address certain misconceptions that still commonly appear with regard to that country and its people. One concerns the Empress Dowager Cixi who was the actual ruler of China during its most difficult years at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. This was an era when European, American, and Japanese attempts to divide that country for easier absorption and exploitation were at their height and China was at its weakest. The Empress Dowager was always wrongly vilified for political reasons in both the West and in China. But, it was through her efforts that China managed to survive as a functioning political entity as long as it did. More historians than hitherto will one day surely reevaluate her role. Three years after the death of Cixi, China became a republic and things became worse, because many Chinese, themselves, saw the republic as a temporary phenomenon. Japan, the United States, and the more important European nations exercised, as always, a destructive influence. In addition, there was homegrown destabilization in the form of numerous war lords whose true goal, in each case, was to establish a new imperial dynasty. World War I probably saved China from being divided up due to the fact that Europe and America were heavily involved in warfare elsewhere and Japan, alone, could not take up the slack. In the interwar period, the Kuomintang political party under Chiang Kai-Shek managed to acquire authority over large parts of China, but never all. It was corrupt at all levels, a black hole for foreign aid in World War II and deeply frustrating for its allies to work with. This prompted the Americans to approach the Chinese communists and the Communist Party flourished through the efficiency of its war effort against the Japanese. To say that American aid was crucial to its success would be wrong, but it did ease the way. In its simplicity, the American government never thought the Communist Party would be able to establish control over China once the Japanese were defeated. But, in fact, many Americans were so frustrated with Chiang Kai-Shek's Kuomintang rule of China that they didn't care. Calling the Chinese Communist Party communist is misleading. It was and is a uniquely Chinese reaction to a uniquely Chinese set of economic and political problems. Marx and Engels were and are window dressing and never captured China's soul. But, the Communist Party played a crucial role in Chinese history. It gave China real independence. It defeated America in the Korean War. Together with the USSR, it helped greatly in defeating America in Vietnam. And, after the death of Mao Zedong, it created a fully competitive, aggressively capitalist, society which, for the last 10 years, has had the world's largest purchasing power parity GDP. The state controls the internet and social media openly, but a person would be hard pressed to find a Chinese who shows any sense of oppression. The rules are clear and so are the work arounds. In America, the same media control, exercised by indirect means, is far more arbitrary, far less transparent, making it appear, when viewed from Japan, as far more oppressive. Lastly, a word of caution. It's easy to mistakenly judge what a person only knows by hearsay. More people living in the Collective West need to experience China and Chinese people directly. Australian authorities want to jail another whistle blower for exposing Australian war crimes in Afghanistan:

In 2020 a report by Paul Brereton found credible evidence that Australian special forces soldiers murdered 39 Afghan civilians and prisoners, with most of the killings occurring in 2012 and 2013.
