Retail traders and market experts see little downside for gold next week as inflation takes center stage
U.S. inflation data will once again take center stage next week, with the release of Januaryβs CPI report on Tuesday morning, the final PPI print for December on Wednesday, and initial January PPI on Friday.
Markets will also be paying attention to weekly jobless claims and U.S. retail sales for January, as well as the Philly and New York Fedβs manufacturing indices, all set for release on Thursday morning, followed by January housing starts and building permits and February initial UMichigan consumer sentiment on Friday. There will also be a smattering of central bank speakers throughout the week.
βI look for gold to strengthen in the coming days, helped by soft US inflation and retail sales,β said Marc Chandler, Managing Director at Bannockburn Global Forex. βI expect those data points to put a cap on US yields and the dollar. Still, it looks comfortable in a $2000-$2050 range.
