📢 This a question asked by one of my students, i will share it here with answer for all to help 🙏🏻 🚨 Answer : Increasing ion concentration inside the guard cell make it has a lower water potential than the surrounding which make water move from high water potential (outside the cell) to low water potentail (inside the cell) by osmosis down the concentration gradient , and this is clear in the study as increasing ion conc. from 0.3 to 2.5 pmol lead to increase in guard cell volume from 4000 to 6500 micro m³ which in turn increased the turgor pressure from 2 to 4.8 Mpa and thus lead to increase in width of stomatal opening from 0 to 8 micrometer
