𝔸𝕝𝕝 𝕟𝕒𝕞𝕖𝕤 𝕒𝕣𝕖 𝕃𝕠𝕣𝕕 𝕊𝕙𝕚𝕧𝕒'𝕤 𝕟𝕒𝕞𝕖𝕤 ब्रह्मविष्णुसुरेन्द्राणां रुद्रादित्याश्विनामपि । विश्वेषामपि देवानां वपुर्धारयते भव: ।।

~ Mahābhārata 13.14.140

Śrī Bhava assumes the names & forms of Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Indra, Rudra, Āditya, Aśvins and all other deities. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - एष ब्रह्मैष विष्णुश्च एष देवो विराजते । एष भूतपतिर्देवो(व) एष सेतुर्विधारणः । एकमेव महादेवमिन्द्रमित्रादिभिः सुरैः । नामरूपगुणैश्चैव मायया मन्यते जनः ।

~ Siva-Rahasya Mahetihasa, 1st Amsha, Chapter 3

Mahadeva alone is known by the names of Brahma, Vishnu, Indra, Mitra, etc. by the gods. He alone is known thus with names and forms due to maayaa by people. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - वेदवेद्यो हि सर्वज्ञो यत्संतानोऽखिलं जगत् । यं न कोपि हि वेदादौ वेदवेद्यः स एष वै ।। योनभिज्ञः सदाज्ञातः स सर्वज्ञोयमेव हि । यस्यैकमपि नो नाम पुंसा ज्ञेयं न केनचित् ।। सर्वेषां सर्वनामानि यस्य नामानि निश्चितम् । सोसौ हि सर्वदेशीयः सर्वेभ्यः सर्वसिद्धिदः ।।

~ Skanda-Māhapurāṇa, 4.66.107-109

He (Shiva) is the omniscient one to be known only through the Vedas. The entire universe is his progeny. He is one whom no one has known even at the outset. It is he who is (reputed to be) one who should be known through the Vedas. He alone is the omniscient one who always has remained misunderstood and unknowable. Not even a single name of his can be fully comprehended by any man. It is certain, he bears all the names of everyone as his names. He belongs to all climes and regions. He is bestower of all supernatural powers on all. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - गीयते सर्वशक्त्यात्मा शूलपाणिर्महेश्वरः । एनमेके वदन्त्यग्निं नारायणमथापरे । इन्द्रमेके परे प्राणं ब्रह्माणमपरे जगुः । ब्रह्मविष्णवग्निवरुणाः सर्वे देवास्तथर्षयः । एकस्यैवाथ रुद्रस्य भेदास्ते परिकीर्त्तिताः । यं यं भेदं समाश्रित्य यजन्ति परमेश्वरम् । तत् तद् रूपं समास्थाय प्रददाति फलं शिवः ।

~ Kurma Purana, 2.46.34-36

Some call Agni as Isvara, others calls Narayana as such, Some call It Indra, Some call it Prana and others call it Brahma. Really Speaking, Brahma, Visnu, Agni, Varuna, all Devas as well as sages are glorified as variants of one same entity- Rudra. In whatever forma devotee adores Paramesvara, Lord Siva Appears before him in the same form to bestow rewards on him.

🌸 𝔼𝕜𝕒𝕞 𝕊𝕒𝕥 𝕍𝕚𝕡𝕣𝕒 𝔹𝕒𝕙𝕦𝕕𝕙𝕒 𝕍𝕒𝕕𝕒𝕟𝕥𝕚 🌸 इन्द्रं॑ मि॒त्रं वरु॑णम॒ग्निमा॑हु॒रथो॑ दि॒व्यः स सु॑प॒र्णो ग॒रुत्मा॑न् । एकं॒ सद्विप्रा॑ बहु॒धा व॑दन्त्य॒ग्निं य॒मं मा॑त॒रिश्वा॑नमाहुः ॥ ~ Rigveda, 1.164.46 They called him Indra, Mitra, Varuṇa, Agni; and he is heavenly Garuda, who has beautiful wings. The truth is one, but the sages (or learned ones) call it by many names or describe him in many ways; they called him Agni, Yama, Mātariśvan. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - एक एवाद्वयः शंभुरिन्द्रमित्राग्निनामभिः।। वदन्ति बहुधा विप्रा भ्रान्तोपकृतिहेतवे।। The one and secondless Shambhu Alone Is known By the Names of Indra, Mitra and Agni. For the sake of helping those who are confused, the brahmanas speak of them in different ways. ~ Brahma Purana 158.27

𝕃𝕠𝕣𝕕 𝕊𝕙𝕚𝕧𝕒 𝕚𝕤 𝔾𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕥𝕖𝕤𝕥 𝕀𝕤𝕙𝕧𝕒𝕣𝕒(𝕄𝕒𝕙𝕖𝕤𝕙𝕨𝕒𝕣𝕒) 𝕒𝕟𝕕 ℕ𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕪𝕒𝕟𝕒 𝕚𝕤 𝕓𝕖𝕤𝕥 𝕒𝕞𝕠𝕟𝕘 𝔻𝕖𝕧𝕒𝕥𝕒𝕤 : यथा नारायण श्रेष्ठो देवानां पुरुषोत्तमः ॥ यवेष्वराणां गिरीशः स्थानानाचैतदुत्तमम्। ~Kurma Puran, 1.31.71 As Narayana is the best among the Devas, as Mahadeva is the best among Īśvaras, similarly, Varanasi is the best among all the sacred places. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - यथानारायणः श्रेष्ठो देवानां पुरुषोत्तमः । यथेश्वराणां गिरिशः स्थानानामेतदुत्तमम् ॥ ~Padma puran, 3.33.58 As Viṣṇu is the greatest among the devtas, as Śiva is the greatest among Ishvaras, so is this place the best of all places.

स सर्वासां हि विद्यानामधिष्ठानं सदाशिवः । किं तस्य विद्यया कार्य्यं पूर्णस्य परमात्मनः ॥ ~ Śiva Māhapurana, 2.3.28.7 Sadāśiva is the support and receptacle of all śaṣtras or knowledges. Of what avail is learning to Him who is perfect and the supreme soul?

Śiva Uvāca: सर्वपूर्णस्वरूपोऽस्मि सच्चिदानन्दलक्षणः । सर्वतीर्थस्वरूपोऽस्मि परमात्माऽस्म्यहं शिवः ।।12।। "I am the embodiment of completeness, characterized by eternal truth, consciousness, and bliss. I am the embodiment of all holy places(tīrthas), I am the Parama Atma, I am Śiva." लक्ष्यालक्ष्यविहीनोऽस्मि लयहीनरसोऽस्म्यहम् । मातृमानविहीनोऽस्मि मेयहीनः शिवोऽस्म्यहम् ॥13।। "I am devoid of goals and non-goals. I am the essence of rhythm that never falters. I am immeasurable, without any standard to measure me. I am not an object of perception; I am only eternal Sadā Śiva." ~Maītrēyupaniṣat : 3rd Adhyāya

𝕃𝕠𝕣𝕕 𝕊𝕙𝕚𝕧𝕒 𝕤𝕒𝕚𝕕 𝕥𝕠 𝕊𝕣𝕚 ℝ𝕒𝕞𝕒 𝕒𝕓𝕠𝕦𝕥 𝕃𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕒𝕕𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕟𝕒 𝕤𝕪𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕞 , 𝕃𝕒𝕜ṣ𝕞𝕚 𝕨𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕤 𝕊𝕙𝕚𝕧 𝕃𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕠𝕟 𝔽𝕠𝕣𝕖𝕙𝕖𝕒𝕕 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝔹𝕣𝕒𝕙𝕞ā 𝕨𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕤 𝕚𝕥 𝕠𝕟 ℍ𝕖𝕒𝕕 मस्तके धारणं मुख्यं ब्रह्मणा च तथा कृतम् । विन्यस्य मुकुटस्यांते धारणं शुभमुच्यते ॥ ललाटे धारणं शस्तं यथा लक्ष्म्या धृतं शुभम् । बाणेन च धृतं मूर्ध्नि दक्षिणोरसि वा पुनः ॥ अनिकेतन मर्त्यानामशक्तानां शिरोधृतिः ॥ अधमाधमवृत्तीनां सदा वै लिंगधारणम् । पापिनामपि चाश्चर्यं यमलोके न विद्यते ॥ ~ Padma Purana, Patala, 105.130-136 Śivalinga should be worn so as to touch the body or would cover the entire body. The chief one is wearing it on the head. Brahmā had done like that. Wearing it by keeping it under the crown is said to be auspicious. Wearing it on the forehead is (also) recommended, as Lakṣmī had worn one auspicious one. Bāṇa had worn it on the head and also on the right (part of the) chest. Weak men having no abodes should wear it on their heads. Those whose conduct is the meanest, and those who are sinners, should always wear a Liṅga. The wonder is: they would not visit Yama’s world.

सा जिह्वा या शिवं स्तौति तन्मनो ध्यायते शिवम् । तौ कर्णौ तत्कथालोलौ तौ हस्तौ तस्य पूजकौ ॥ ते नेत्रे पश्यतः पूजां तच्छिरः प्रणतं शिवे । तौ पादौ यौ शिवक्षेत्रं भक्त्या पर्यटतः सदा ॥ यस्येन्द्रियाणि सर्वाणि वर्तंते शिवकर्मसु । स निस्तरति संसारं भुक्तिं मुक्तिं च विंदति ॥ ~ Skanda-Māhapurāṇa, 3.3.5.7-9 Only that tongue is successful, which praises Lord Shiva. Only that mind is meaningful, which is engaged in meditation of Shiva. Only those ears are successful, which are eager to listen to his story and only those two hands are useful, which worship Lord Shiva. those eyesBlessed are those who worship Mahadevji. Blessed is that head which bows before Shiva. Blessed are those feet, which always visit the fields of Shiva with devotion. One whose entire senses are engaged in the works of Lord Shiva, crosses the ocean of worldly life and attains enjoyment and salvation. One who has even the slightest devotion for Lord Shiva in his heart is worshipable by all living beings.

सूत उवाच । शिवो गुरुः शिवो देवः शिवो बंधुः शरीरिणाम् । शिव आत्मा शिवो जीवःशिवादन्यन्न किञ्चन ॥ शिवमुद्दिश्य यत्किंचिद्दत्तं जप्तं हुतं कृतम् । तदनंतफलं प्रोक्तं सर्वागमविनिश्चितम् ॥ ~ Skanda-Māhapurāṇa, 3.3.5.1-2 Śiva is the preceptor(Guru). Śiva is the lord. Śiva is a kinsman(friend) unto embodied beings. Śiva is the soul. Śiva is the individual soul. There is nothing else other than Śiva. This is a final decision in all the scriptural texts that whatever is donated, thought(chanted) and offered into the fire with Śiva in view, is of infinite merit.

तस्योत्तरतः शिरो दक्षिणतः पादौ य उत्तरतः स ओङ्कारः, स प्रणवः स सर्वव्यापी, यः सर्वव्यापी सोऽनन्तो योऽनन्तो तत्तारं यत्तारं तत् सूक्ष्मं यत् सूक्ष्मं तच्छुक्लं यच्छुक्लं तद्वैद्युतं यद्वैद्युतं तत् परं ब्रह्म यत् परं ब्रह्म स एकः य एकः स रुद्रः यो रुद्रः स ईशानो य ईशानः स भगवान् महेश्वरः (स भगवान् महादेवः) ॥44।। While residing in the heart, his head is in the north, both feet are in the south; He is Omkara. He is referred to as 'Pranava'. He is omnipresent, the one omnipresent is infinite, the one infinite is the savior, that savior is subtle, that subtle is bright, the bright is lightning, the lightning is the Para Brahma, that Para Brahma is the one form, that one form is alone Rudra, Rudra is the form of Īśāṇa, the form of Īśāṇa is the form of Lord Mahēśvara (That Mahēśvara is Lord Mahadeva)." ~Atharvaśirōpaniṣat

कीटा नागास्तव इति वा किं न सन्ति स्थलेषु त्वत्पादाम्भोरुहपरिमलोद्वाहिमन्दानिलेषु । तेष्वेकं वा सृज पुनरिमं नाथ दीनार्तिहारिन् आतोषान्मां मृड भवमहाङ्गारनद्यां लुठन्तम् ॥ ~ Atmarpan Stuti / Unmattah Panchashat by Srimad Appayya Dikshithar हे नाथ! जिन-जिन स्थलोंमें आपके चरण-कमल जाते हैं, उन-उन स्थलोंमें कीड़े-मकोड़े, साँप-बिच्छू अथवा झाड़-झंखाड़ भी तो अवश्य होंगे। यदि और कुछ नहीं, तो उन्हीं में से कोई शरीर मुझे दे दें, जिससे उन चरण-कमलोंके सुमधुर गन्धसे सम्पृक्त सुशीतल वायुका सुखकर स्पर्श पाकर मैं अपने शरीर और आत्मा — दोनोंकी तपनको बुझा सकूँ और इस सुतप्त अङ्गारोंसे पूर्ण भवनदीसे छुटकारा पाऊँ । उस योनिमें मुझे आप जबतक आपकी तबीयत चाहे, रख सकते हैं। उसमें मुझे कोई आपत्ति न होगी, बल्कि जितने अधिक समयतक आप मुझे उस शरीरमें रखेंगे, उतना ही अधिक आनन्द मुझे होगा और मैं अपना अहोभाग्य समझँगा। क्या मेरी इस प्रार्थनाको भी आप स्वीकार नहीं करेंगे ? अवश्य करेंगे !

Pleased by Andhaka's devotion Lord Shiva offered him to ask boons-- पुत्र तुष्टोऽस्मि भद्रं ते जातस्त्वं निर्मलोऽधुना । दिव्यं ददामि ते चक्षुः पश्य मां विगतज्वरः ॥ यच्च ते मनसा वापि किंचिच्च कांक्षितं फलम् । तत्तत्सर्वं प्रदास्यामि ब्रूहि दानवसत्तम ॥ Son, welfare unto you. I am pleased with you. Now you have become free from impurities. I shall give you divine vision. Look at me without mental affliction. O excellent Dānava, tell me whatever benefit has been desired mentally by you; I shall grant you. दानव उवाच । ब्राह्म्यं वैष्णवमेंद्रं वा पदमावृत्तिलक्षणम् । विदितं मम तत्सर्वं मनागपि न कांक्षये ॥ यदि तुष्टोऽसि देवेश गाणपत्यं ददस्व मे । सविशेषं विशुद्धं च तदक्षय्यं च सर्वदा ॥ The Dānava said: The position of Brahmā, Viṣṇu or Indra is characterized by coining and going (i.e. impermanence). All this is known to me. I do not desire it at all. O Lord of Devas, if you are pleased, grant me Gāṇapatya—lordship of the Gaṇas. That is something especially pure and everlasting. ~ Skandapurāṇa, 5.1.38.26-29

🌼 Lord Shiva can grant the position of any Gods be it Brahma, Vishnu or Indra to his devotees if he is pleased __ पूजया परमा मुक्तिः पूजया शुद्धवेदनम् ११ ब्रह्मविष्ण्वादिदेवानां पदप्राप्तिश्च पूजया अष्टैश्वर्यं सुरत्वं च पदं गान्धर्वपूर्वकम् १२ सार्वभौमत्वमीशस्य पूजयैव हि सिद्धयति मनोहराः स्त्रियः सौख्यं कल्याणभवनानि च|| १३ ~ Parāśar Ūpa Purāṇam — Chapter-16.11-13 Ultimate liberation can be achieved from the Worship of Lord Shiva and one can even achieve the Post of Brahma, Vishnu and other gods, and through worship one attains sovereignty. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Viṣṇu attains Viṣṇu Position, Bramhā attains Bramhā Position and Indra attains Indra's Position by doing Śiva Bhakti. ~ Śiva Dharma Pūrva Purāṇam — Chapter-3, Slokas- 30, 31,32

🌼 Lord Shiva can grant the position of any Gods be it Brahma, Vishnu or Indra to his devotees if he is pleased 🌼 ब्रह्मत्वं केशवत्वं वा शक्रत्वं वा सुरैः सह ॥ त्रैलोक्यम्याधिपत्यं वा तुष्टो रुद्रः प्रयच्छति । ~ Mahābhārat, Anūśāsan Parva,18.64 If Rudra be gratified with a person, he can confer upon him the states of ether Brahmā or of Narayana or of Sakra(Indra) with all the deities under him, or the sovereignty of the three worlds. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - अस्य प्रसादलेशस्य लवलेशलवेन तु । ईदं विष्णुपदं लब्धम् त्वया नान्येन हेतुना ।। ~ Sūta Saṃhitā ŚivaMahātmya Khaṃḍa —3:14 Nandi said to Viṣṇu: By a smallest part of Śiva's grace you have attained this Viṣṇu position not otherwise.

दक्ष उवाच । नमामि देवं वरदं वरेण्यं नमामि देवेश्वरं सनातनम् । नमामि देवाधिपमीश्वरं हरं नमामि शंभुं जगदेकबंधुम् ॥ नमामि विश्वेश्वरविश्वरूपं सनातनं ब्रह्म निजात्मरूपम् । नमामि सर्वं निजभावभावं वरं वरेण्यं नतोऽस्मि ॥ ~ Skanda-Māhapurāṇa, 1.1.5.36-37 Dakṣa said: I bow down to the excellent lord, the bestower of boons. I bow down to the most excellent lord of Devas, the eternal lord(Sanatana). I pay obeisance to Īśvara, the lord of Devas. I bow down to Hara, Śaṃbhu, the sole kinsman of the universe. I bow down to the cosmic form of the lord of the universe, the eternal Brahman in the form of one’s own soul. I salute Sarva (Śiva) having the existence of one’s own mental creation. I pay obeisance to the excellent one, the bestower of boons.

ध्याननिष्ठस्यसततंनश्यतेसर्वपातकम्। तस्मान्महेश्वरंध्यात्वातस्यध्यानफ्रोभवेत्।। यद्वह्मणः परंज्योतिः प्रविष्टाक्षरमव्ययम्। योऽन्तरात्मापरंबाप्रसविज्ञेयो महेश्वरः ।। एषदेवोमहादेवः केवलः परमशिवः। तदेवाक्षर गद्वैततवानित्यपरपदम् ।। तस्मिन्महीयतेदेवेस्वधाग्निज्ञानसंज्ञिते। आत्मयोगात्परे तत्त्वे महादेवस्ततः स्मृतः ।। ~ Padma Purana, Svarga, 60.33-36 सदा ध्यान में स्थित रहनेवाले पुरुष के सारे पातक नष्ट हो जाते हैं। इसलिये महेश्वर का चिन्तन करते हुए सा उन्हीं को ध्यान में संलग्न रहना चाहिये। जो परम ज्योति स्वस्थ ब्रह्म, सबका आश्रय, अक्षर, अव्यय, अन्तरात्मा तमा परब्रह्म हैं, उन्ती को भगवान् महेश्वर समझना चाहिये। ये महादेवजी केवल परम शिवरूप हैं। ये ही अक्षर, अद्वेत एवं सनातन परमपद हैं। वे देव स्वप्रकाश स्वरूप है, ज्ञान उनकी संज्ञा है, ये हो आत्मयोगरूप तत्व हैं, उनमें सबकी महिमा प्रतिष्ठा होती है, इसलिये उन्हें महादेव कहा गया है।

(भगवान् के वचनों को सुनकर) श्री नन्दिकेश्वर कहने लगे कि भगवान् शिव को भक्ति बड़ी ही दुर्लभ है। भगवान शिव का अर्चन-पूजन करना बहुत ही दुर्लभ है। भगवान् शिव के लिए दान देना भी बड़ा दुर्लभ है और भगवान् शिव के लिए होम करना भी बड़ा दुर्लभ है। इसी प्रकार भगवान् शिव का ज्ञान होना बड़ा दुर्लभ है। उस ज्ञान का अभ्यास करना भी दुर्लभ है। अतएव यह ज्ञान बड़ा दुर्लभ है, ऐसा जानकर के भगवान् शिव की भक्ति का आश्रय ग्रहण करें।
