Hi everyone. CAE Part 1 Question - Would you rather listen to music while doing other activities like exercising or studying or set aside time for only listening to music? Check out this video to learn some useful vocabulary in context and get ideas for talking about a task like this. https://youtu.be/JCY4VRwleMc Here's the transcript: Idea 1 - I find that music can be a little distracting, so I'd prefer only listening to music. While studying, I like listening to ASMR[1] instead. It seems rather peculiar[2] at first, but I've found it's the perfect level of background noise[3] for me. Idea 2 - I set aside time specifically for listening to music. I prefer it when I can fully immerse myself in it and simply relish in[4] the experience. Idea 3 - I usually only listen to music while doing physical activity. My workout is pretty strenuous[5] and it just feels less taxing[6] with music.... It makes you feel like you're exerting far less effort[7] than you actually are. Idea 4 - To be honest, I rarely listen to music at all. I generally lean towards[8] listening to podcasts or something like that instead. Something a little more mentally engaging[9] that I can learn from. Idea 5 - I often listen to music while driving. With a hectic schedule[10], I don't have much time to do it otherwise... So I make the most of[11] my long commute by listening to my favourite albums. Here are the vocabulary notes: [1] ASMR - ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It's the feeling of a pleasant tingling sensation that some people experience when they hear certain sounds. [2] peculiar - strange or unusual [3] background noise - noise or sound that you're not specifically listening to which may be comforting and help you focus [4] to relish in something - to enjoy something greatly [5] strenuous exercise - exercise that is very vigorous and hard on the body [6] to be taxing - something taxing requires a lot of effort and is very difficult [7] to exert effort - collocation - to put forth strength and effort [8] to lean towards something - phrase - to say that, if given options, you would prefer one thing over another [9] mentally engaging - a mentally engaging task is one that keeps your mind occupied and interested because it's not boring [10] hectic - very busy or chaotic [11] to make the most of something - phrase - to take full advantage of something because it may not last long How would you respond to this question? Take a few second to think, and then talk about this for about 10 to 15 seconds.
