Maxwell Owin – an underground icon in the UK music scene – is joining us for our next dance on June 7th 🤫 Those who know him certainly know his wizardry. A seminal influence in the scene of South London, Maxwell is a deep collaborator – with artists such as Joe Armon-Jones, Pheobs and Pinty MC to name a few – weaving his sonic fabric in an instantly recognisable fashion. ‘Fruits & Flowers’ (do yourself a favour and type it into YouTube), to this day, is still one of our favourite works to come out of the city in recent times. With its fusing of soft ballads, Burial-esque rhythms and melancholic moods, it’s had a profound influence upon many of the musicians in and around South London at the time of its release. As a DJ, Maxwell has been known to do many things but will definitely be bringing that UK energy to Berlin for the next dance. Heavy bass and dutty rhythms to be expected from him. Alongside our guest, two of the SHUSH selectors will keep things loose behind the decks. Regulars remember how Orlando Rosé twisted our heads around by effortlessly chopping up Kerri Chandlers ‘Rain‘ at last years Move Operators Block Party… He is joined by Ken Okuda, who took us on a deep six hour journey last year during an extended solo set, and most recently warmed up proceedings for DJ Spinna in February. A heavy night of music to be expected. This event will kick off our new residency at 60Hz in Kreuzberg. It’s a beautiful, cozy spot that we can’t wait to get together at. SHUSH fam, a couple of short updates from our side: catch D’Monk playing for XJAZZ festival this saturday at AEDEN. he’s on at 4am and will take us on a deep late night journey for sure… on sunday, he’ll also be soundtracking the EXPRESSIONS WORLD showcase behind the decks (together with Anna Leevia), featuring Jitwam (live band), Joe Armon-Jones, and Miriam Adefris. XJAZZ Festival 2024 our good friends of Smoothin Groovin are hosting an event tonight at Grüner Salon, featuring FLINTA* DJ and producer collective BLVSH. our joint gathering with them there last december was beautiful, so we’d recommend this for everyone looking for an uplifting dance. SHUSH family! We’re beyond excited to be able to share the date for our next function with you – with none other than Detroit’s Julion De’Angelo. A highly skilled producer and deeply imaginative selector alike, Julion has been commanding dancefloors for a number of years. Releasing on fabled imprints such as Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature or Visions Recordings – and setting up his own label Maybee Hill Music last year – he’s been putting out a string of records that have left a heavy mark in the scene. Behind the decks, he’s been part of a new generation of DJs that have combined the lessons of their mentors – building an extensive library, spinning wax and believing in a broad musical caleidoscope – with fresh sensibilities and sounds. Most recently, his Boiler Room set from late last year is a testament to that. Among Julion, we’ve got one of Berlin’s most exciting selectors – Jaxx TMS – to grace the decks. Running her own radio show and event series Inner City Expressions, as well as being one fifth of DJ collective SLIC Unit, she’s been one of the city’s most prominent voices of soulful music on the dancefloor, championing old and new sounds alike. Next to these two, we’ve got SHUSH’s own D’Monk presenting one of his live sets. If you’ve caught him play live before – like at our gathering with Errol & Alex Rita in December 2022 – you know why this is not to be missed. Emanating the raw, the gritty, and the heavily syncopated – once those machines are in sync, magic is about to be witnessed. We’ll be gathering at a new venue for this function, bringing our trusted sound system with us. wow! we’re still flying high off of the weekend. this was a truly special gathering. it seemed everything locked together in just the right way.
