Here is the explanation of the problem: Physical examination and history describe seborrheic dermatitis. 1)Seborrheic dermatitis prefers oily skin. Therefore, malessezia spp., which is found in normal flora and is lipid dependent. For seborrheic dermatitis areas are a paradise. Malessezia promotes seborrheic dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis promotes malessezia. It is quite common for them to be found together in this way. 2) The doctor told the patient that he had eczema (dermatitis) and mentioned a microorganism. When we talk about eczema and microorganisms, we immediately think of normal skin flora elements. This is candida or malesezia for yeasts. 3) Selenium sulfide is frequently used topically in the treatment of malesezia and is very effective. (cream, shampoo, etc.) So, what does the Malessezia KOH preparation look like? Malessezia is normally found in the form of yeast in the skin flora. If they decide to turn into hyphae, they invade the epithelium and reach the st.corneum layer. In addition, the yeast form descends to the same layer through this pathway. As a result, when the lesion scraping sample is examined as a 10% KOH preparation, yeast and hyphae forms will be seen together. Hyphae have a short, unbranched appearance (spaghetti). Yeasts and hyphae together resemble meatballs and spaghetti.

2
If the doctor took scrapings from the scaly edges of the lesions and looked at them under a light microscope after 10% KOH preparation, what kind of appearance would you expect?

📌A 28-year-old female patient presents with itchy lesions on her face that have been going on for 1 month. 📌On physical examination, around the nasolabial grooves; Dry, scaly, yellowish red areas are detected. 📌The doctor tells the patient that this is a type of eczema and will prescribe the relevant medications, without the need for an additional test. 📌In addition, he says that a microorganism may also play a role in the development of this disease, so he should use shampoo containing Selenium Sulfite as a precaution.
