On 15th May 2026, Kursk State Medical University proudly hosted the Certificate Awarding Ceremony for the Additional General Development Program - Foundations of Surgical Technique: Basic Skills Program 🇷🇺🔬
This historic event marked the successful completion of the very first certified course conducted since the establishment of the Surgical Skills Class in 2021. The course brought together 80 dedicated students, who were trained in 4 groups through intensive hands-on surgical skills sessions aimed at building a strong foundation in modern surgical techniques. 🩺⚕️

On March 13, 2026, students of the International Medical Institute of KSMU took part in the vibrant international festival “Mărțișor,” organized by the Moldovan community of the Kursk region.
👩🎓👨🎓 Students from India, Sri Lanka, and African countries joined the celebration. For many, it was their first encounter with Moldovan traditions and the diverse cultural heritage of Russia and beyond — and it left a truly inspiring impression.
🎨 The festival featured:
• An exhibition of Moldovan culture with national costumes, handicrafts, and traditional “Mărțișor” ornaments
• A мастер-class on creating symbolic red-and-white thread dolls
• A концерт program with performances by folk groups from Kursk and the region

The interdisciplinary reading hall of the medical university library on Mayakovsky Street has become a true point of attraction for international students.
Upon entering the space, students were impressed by its unique design: a two-level hall styled as a classical study, creating a strong sense of connection to the world of science and history. The walls are decorated with portraits of prominent Russian figures, scenes from world history, and famous artworks, while medical-themed panels remind students of their future profession.
📖 The library collection also drew special attention. Students highlighted the wide selection of fiction, academic, and scientific literature available in both English and Russian.
🎨 A highlight of the visit was an exhibition by the “Spektr” painting studio, featuring still life works inspired by Dutch and Russian artistic traditions. The students admired the creativity and skill of the young artists.

Kursk State Medical University continues its work on the sociocultural adaptation of international students arriving in Russia. Malaysian students of the International Medical Institute’s pre-university program took part in an introductory tour of the university.
The tour was designed not only to showcase the university’s infrastructure, but also to immerse students in a new academic and cultural environment. Participants visited academic buildings, departments, the administrative center, sports facilities, the dental clinic, and the Research Institute of Experimental Medicine, where they will undergo practical training.
A walk through the university courtyard — often described as an open-air museum — became one of the highlights of the visit. The area features unique monuments and sculptures reflecting the history of science and student life.
Students explored the Anatomical Theater and saw the monument to Hippocrates, symbolizing commitment to the medical oath. They also visited memorials dedicated to medical service and Saint Luke (Valentin Voyno-Yasenetsky), highlighting the connection between medicine and spirituality.
Particular attention was drawn to the bronze “Grade Book,” a well-known student symbol of good luck in exams, as well as the unusual erythrocyte monument.

Malaysian students of the preparatory program at the International Medical Institute of KSMU became acquainted with the university’s lecture halls, student campus, and the surrounding territory with its key landmarks. Such excursions are an essential part of the sociocultural adaptation process for international students who have just arrived in Russia for the first time.

On February 28, 2026, a special atmosphere filled the Healthy Nutrition Center of KSMU: Malaysian students of the International Medical Institute at KSMU organized a vibrant celebration of Chinese New Year — a festival marking the arrival of spring and the awakening of nature. The event brought many positive emotions to all participants and introduced them to the fascinating traditions of the East.
The dining hall was transformed with red lanterns and garlands decorated with golden hieroglyphs adorning the walls. The air was filled with the aromas of Eastern spices, inviting guests to the festive table where traditional treats awaited them.
The Malaysian students made every effort to ensure the event was engaging and unforgettable for everyone. A highlight of the celebration was the contest for the best hieroglyph written on red papyrus paper. Participants tried their hand at Chinese calligraphy. Everyone who wished could draw a character — for example, “happiness” (福), “luck” (运), or “joy” (乐).
According to tradition, each guest received a red envelope (红包), symbolizing good fortune and prosperity. The distribution of the envelopes was accompanied by interactive activities and cheerful jokes.
The most memorable and extraordinary moment was an unusual culinary Chinese tradition involving the tossing of a sweet salad made of fresh cabbage, juicy carrots, crunchy cucumbers, fragrant mandarin slices, and croutons using chopsticks. The participants’ task was to lift a portion of the salad as high as possible with their chopsticks. Everyone shared laughter and applauded one another!
At the end of the celebration, guests received a ripe mandarin — also part of the tradition. In Chinese culture, mandarins symbolize wealth and prosperity, and their bright color is associated with the sun and joy.

| 12 |  +3❄️ Two Tons of Snow? No Problem for KSMU International Students!
On February 19, 2026, after a powerful snowfall blanketed Kursk in tons of snow, international students of the International Medical Institute of Kursk State Medical University stepped up to support the city.
More than 60 students from across the globe joined forces to clear snow around the university dormitories and along Akhtyrskaya Street, making access to the university and central streets safer and more comfortable for residents and fellow students. They also ensured safe passage to public transport stops and nearby essential facilities.
The heavy snowfall had created serious challenges: sidewalks were buried, movement became unsafe, and municipal services were overwhelmed. In response, KSMU’s international students decided to take action and contribute to the community.
The day was not only about clearing snow. Female students organized cleaning efforts inside Dormitory No. 4 and at the International Medical Institute building — washing walls and staircases, polishing mirrors and glass surfaces, which sparkled in the February sunshine.
For many international students, shoveling snow was a new and exciting experience — some even compared it to a physical education class! 💪
Most importantly, the volunteer initiative became a true celebration of unity. Students from different countries worked shoulder to shoulder, supporting each other and sharing smiles.

On February 18, 2026, the International Medical Institute of Kursk State Medical University hosted a round table discussion, “Dialogue of Peoples in the Modern World,” in the university coworking space at the KSMU library.
Students from India, Russia, Zimbabwe, Brazil, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Nigeria, the Maldives, and Botswana came together for an open conversation about intercultural interactionH and student life in Russia.
🎉 The event coincided with the celebration of Chinese New Year — the Year of the Fire Horse. All participants congratulated their Chinese classmates. Malaysian students prepared a special interactive activity: each guest received a personal wish and pronounced it in Chinese, Russian, and English. As a symbol of good luck and prosperity in Chinese culture, everyone was presented with a traditional gift — a mandarin orange.
💬 During the discussion, students shared their first experiences in Russia, speaking about language barriers, cultural differences, adaptation challenges, and the importance of social support. Participants proposed practical ideas to improve the experience of international students — including language clubs and mentorship programs for newcomers.
The round table also addressed stereotypes, intercultural dialogue, and the role of education in strengthening international connections. A lively exchange of views unfolded on the topic of interethnic marriages, with many noting that such unions enrich cultures and strengthen bonds between nations.

Students of IMI KSMU visited a fascinating exhibition at the Kursk Regional House of Folk Art, where around 200 dolls from different continents were presented.
For many international students studying in Kursk, it was more than just a visit — it was a journey around the world without leaving the city.
From elegant Japanese dolls in silk kimonos to bright dolls from Cameroon, and traditional costumes of the Kursk region, the exhibition beautifully demonstrated how different cultures express their traditions through art. Particularly touching were the exhibits representing the students’ home countries.
For future doctors studying in a new cultural environment, such experiences are especially meaningful. They help strengthen the connection between cultures and remind us that despite our differences, we share common human values.
The exhibition, dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, became a vivid lesson in respect, dialogue, and cultural understanding.

As part of the events held during the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, third-year students of the International Medical Institute of Kursk State Medical University and the Pharmaceutical Faculty of Kursk State Medical University, together with lecturers from the Department of Russian Language and Pedagogy, took part in a dialogue of cultures. The event was held at the Central City Library named after F.A. Semyonov.
The meeting was organized by the Committee for Culture and Tourism of the city of Kursk and the F.A. Semyonov Library. Participants and guests were welcomed by distinguished speakers:
— the Head of the Youth Department of the Kursk Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church;
— the Chairperson of the Public and Cultural Center “Community of Moldovans”;
— the Chairperson of the local religious organization of Orthodox Judaism “Jewish Community of the City of Kursk.”
KSMU students contributed to the poetic chronicle of the evening. Ekaterina Razinkova, a student of the Pharmaceutical Faculty, delivered heartfelt readings of her original patriotic poems, “I Want to Tell About Russia” and “Where the Motherland Begins.” Tin Zaw Moe, a student of the International Medical Institute, recited the immortal lines of Anna Akhmatova from her poem “Courage.”
A special atmosphere of unity was created by musical performances by talented youth from Kursk. The evening was further adorned by the author’s doll collection “Diversity in Unity” by Marina Fyodorovna Makhova — a traditional folk doll artist and laureate of national exhibitions.

Today, Kursk State Medical University proudly held the landmark 54th Graduation Ceremony of the International Medical Institute. The assembly hall gathered future doctors from around the globe — Malaysia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Nigeria, and many other countries — marking the beginning of their professional journeys in a festive and inspiring atmosphere.
Graduates were congratulated by the Rector of KSMU, Professor V.A. Lazarenko, university leadership, deans, faculty and staff, as well as proud parents who traveled to Kursk to share this memorable moment.
🎤 A special congratulatory address was delivered by the Director of the International Medical Institute, Assoc. Prof. Mohamad Chahine, emphasizing the graduates’ responsibility, global mission, and the honor of representing KSMU worldwide.
