I wrote a list of ten reasons why one should set aside time and properly learn their Fard 'Ayn (individually obligatory) knowledge. What other reasons can you add? 1. Allah is not worshiped in ignorance, and a person may go through their entire life making critical errors on the very basics of Islam. Learning the Fard 'Ayn avoids this. 2. You free your mind from confusion on the foundations of your religion 3. You will have more confidence and clarity about your purpose in this life. 4. Knowledge of the Fard 'Ayn matters will give you the space to focus on your relationship with Allah with proper foundations set, instead of having major gaps in your knowledge and practice of Islam. 5. Knowledge of the Fard 'Ayn matters will (hopefully) give you awareness of red-flags, and protect you from charlatans, fake-shaykhs, and people who speak about Islam out of ignorance. 6. Knowledge of what is Fard 'Ayn will provide you the tools to understand how Islam has been transmitted to us with an uninterrupted chain. 7. Knowledge of the Fard 'Ayn allows you to know your rights so you are not taken advantage of by people who deem things wajib that are not wajib, or who deem things haram that are not haram. 8. Knowledge of the Fard 'Ayn gives you awareness of religious priorities so you don’t prioritize what is less important or neglect what is most important. 9. You can exhale after learning the Fard ‘Ayn and free yourself from disobedience to Allah, because if you do not know the Fard ‘Ayn you are in a state of disobedience even if you are engaged in something permissible--until you learn the Fard 'Ayn. 10. Fard 'Ayn knowledge is sacred knowledge, which remains with one in the Hereafter and provides light for them in the grave.

This is a summary of Imam Al-Sanusi’s first Muqaddima, which is one of eight introductions to essential concepts in Kalam and Usul ul Fiqh. Currently, the year 2 students are studying Al-Muqaddimat and its commentary by the same author with Sh. Murabit Benavidez.

Online Pre-Ramadan Reading: A reading of Imam Al-Nawawi's Al-Tibyan, taught by Shaykh Imran Ahmed. Insha Allah we'll be startıng a reading of Imam Nawawi's Al-Tibyan fi adab hamalat al-Quran (regarding etiquettes with the Quran), as Ramadan is coming up in about 3 months, and we know the Sahabah would prepare for it months in advance. Some of the 'ulama recommend reading it every year for Ramadan. We'll be reading the Arabic as well as Sh. Musa Furber's English translation. It won't be in-depth commentary but there will be some comments; the main point is to read and practice upon these etiquettes. The plan for now is to read once or twice a week, online and possibly in person as well for anyone who is interested. We haven't finalized timings yet but we are looking at after Fajr on a weekday (so 7 or 7:30 AM, or Sunday morning (maybe 7 or 8 AM). Al-Kisaai said, “there is no knowledge after knowledge of Allah and His attributes that is more honorable than knowledge of Fiqh. It is called knowledge of the Halal and Haram, and knowledge of law and judgements. For it, was the sending of the Messengers and the revelation of the Book because there is no way to know it through the intellect alone without transmission. Allah the Exalted says, “He gives wisdom to whomever He wishes. Whoever is given wisdom, indeed he has been given an abundant goodness.” (Baqarah 279). It is said in some perspectives of interpretation that it [wisdom] is the knowledge of Fiqh.

Don't worry about not having a photographic memory. Shu‘ba, Amīr al-Mu’minīn fi-l Hadīth, was uncertain at times. There is a misconception that being Thiqa means that you cannot make mistakes. al-Dhahabī said: It is not from the conditions of being a Thiqa that one must not mistakes. Who does not make mistakes other than those who are infallible? (al-Mūqidha)
