I've actually found the discourse on this topic to be pretty shit tier for the most part, for every decent point about made bout the quality of inferences from the archeological evidence there are ten "Tom wants to fuck horses" type responses.
As mentioned in the previous post, this has no real bearing on modern praxis anyway, but it has since become an exchange of slander which is frankly shameful.

No myth contains any mention that it is allegory in any tradition because the point of concealing esoteric knowledge in allegory is that it is concealed!
The distinctiveness of the Norse gods from other gods is not due to their being multifaceted divine personalities, since Greek and Hindu gods are such also, and the Greek and Hindu gods have been associated with complex allegory for millennia before Norse myths were written down. Therefore the claim (by Clinton J. McMillan) that their distinctiveness renders impossible any allegorical reading of myths with Norse gods, since he says that such readings require gods to be "personified natural forces and/or human qualities situated as characters in a story" is unsound. Allegorical myths with actual divine personalities are normal in Indo-European religions.
We know that the Norse tradition valued and included hidden and secret knowledge. This is everywhere from the runes to the artwork. Odin specifically pursues secret and hidden knowledge in myths. The idea that their mythology was meant to be read on only one level would be at odds with their poetry which often has double meanings and their art in which multiple different beasts or human faces are contained in a single being. | 283 |

First off I want to state clearly that I do not care for Evola; I have not read his work and I probably won't. I have more interesting books to read like mushroom field guides and the Eternal Myths of the NorthπΏ
I want to comment on the response Folkish Worldview gives to the initial post, which I believe to lack an important nuance.
"You don't have a direct connection to the divine. Your connection to the divine is mediated by your folk."
If we view ourselves as descendants of the Gods or at least created by them, how is that not a clear connection to them?
FW links it to protestantism, so perhaps he means that we can't talk to the Gods directly and we can't hear them talk to us directly. I mostly agree with that; new agers who claim to "work with the Gods" and have some sort of friendly, personal relationship with the Gods are wrong. They are Gods, not coworkers or personal genies to conjure up when you need something.
And this is where it ties into the statement about priests. If the intermediary of a priest was absolutely necessary and couldn't be bypassed, why do we have sources telling of AlfablΓ³t, which was practiced in the privacy of one's own home? And many other sources such as Ibn Fadlan telling of a Rus viking merchant who prays to the Gods for good fortune in his trading endeavours?
In my view, every man (and perhaps also every woman) should be well versed in the basics of proper ritual and offering. If you, as a "layman", perform a proper ritual, prostrate before the Gods, offer a fitting sacrifice, and observe omens that your sacrifice has been accepted, have you not established a connection with the divine?
And let's not forget that priests certainly were not infallible to our ancestors. Our Gothi are working priests, not messiahs. A priest is necessary for performing rituals during the important festivals, and during other important events such as Thing or burials. They are perhaps more attuned to the divine, more knowledgeable in ritual practice, experienced interpreters of omens, more poetic in their speech, and less likely to falter when performing important rituals in front of the Gods and the tribe.
This isn't a dig at FW personally. I believe it's important to call out needlessly esoteric bullshit where you see it (which perhaps Evola is, I can't say). But it's equally important to keep adding nuance. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this, and hope we can keep these discussions going in good faith and frith.

| 16 | +4 It has been 132 years since J. R. R. Tolkien was born, and 51 years since he died. Intentionally or not (I think it was intentional, but I know lots of folks don't), this man β born in the Orange Free State of South Africa to English parents of Prussian-German stock β probably did more to save Germanic mythology and pre-Christian beliefs (despite his traditional Catholicism, or perhaps even because of it) and portray them in a positive, heroic light than any other single human being imaginable.
Others have attempted to ape his accomplishments, but none have come close to his world-wide impact.
Today, we honor this great man: a soldier, scholar, poet, and romantic. A man who loved his wife, his children, and his people deeply enough to devote his life to bringing new life to old myths and legends.
May he rest in well-deserved peace with his wife and children in the halls of his long-fathers of old...

| 17 | 2023 Retrospective
Like many years, the last has been up and down.
The Order made good headway in it's goals: the Temple Fund is booming, recruitment is up, outreach is strong and our publications are steadily building. Multiple hearth rites were observed throughout the year, for all major festivals as well as some minor, and many a feast-day enjoyed.
Personal triumphs were held and, to quote a certain British comedy; there was much rejoicing! Oathes sworn, oathes achieved; babies born and clanships strengthened. We have much to be thankful for of the Gods, and to them we give nothing but devotion and praise. π
Yet, our struggles in this life are everpresent. Just as much loss was felt for some in our circles, and unwelcome changes made themselves known. To wish for a better year may be a diservice to the good that has come from the year now past, but that sentiment is nonetheless in the air for many families.
I could wrtie for sometime on all things, good or bad, but I will sum it up as such:
The time now passed; at candle's end,
Three cries of light to Gods we send.
Thirteen long months this solar year,
Their golden days of woe and cheer.
Rest not yet, O Heathens true,
Dwell not in your feelings blue.
All faithful found in Bileyg's wink,
Our futures in the stars to drink.

Storms rage; the Hunters ride

Tonight will be the first of the sacred Twelve Nights, with Mother's Night now past. A time in between time of sorts: the Sun seems frozen, it doesn't rise sooner or set later during this time. This makes it an excellent period for divination, which is what we will be doing with Swesaz.
Another important thing to do is to clean and tidy your house and garden. The spirits that visit during the Yuletide do not like disorder, chaos or mess of any kind! I will share some of the legends surrounding these practices in the coming days.

| 19 | The Joel time is as long as the period a new moon needs to become full. A prototype Joel Time was the Joel Time of 2015/2016. On December 21 was then the solstice. We got a New Moon right after that. Thus began the new month on December 22 which was full on the last night of the Joel time, the one from January 5 to January 6.
J.J. Mak, the author of the great book 'The Christmas Party', puts his finger in the right place when he says that the Germans have not known a solar cult. Not like the Romans at least, who deified the sun as Sol Invictus, the god they celebrate on their fixed solstice date.
While the Romans in the south celebrated their great feast on that fixed solstice, three days after the actual solstice, the Germans sat in the north in the middle of the time of enchantment, of delusionment, in which their sun seemed to stand still. For us in our time, the Joel time may also hold that enchantment. And no matter how we count, we always come out on the Twelfth Day as an important date on which you can take a slow breath again and when the party is:
The festival that was celebrated from that day on is called the Joel Feast and the moment is called Midwinter. It is the day when the days will really lengthen after the solstice, it is the day of the full moon counted from the solstice in a prototype year. The period comes to an end on that day that is the same length as the lunar year is shorter than the solar year. The Germans must all have been very aware of this. In addition, a new moon shining in the twelve nights meant a leap year. Then a month (litha at Beda) had to be added in the summer and the year had 13 months. We see, the whole year literally arose from the twelve nights! In a next piece we will read that a new year is equal to a new earth for the heathens, a new earth that is finished with midwinter and has arisen in the twelve nights.

After the twelve nights is the feast. It is not for nothing that day was called New Year's Eve for a long time!
The heathen Joel Feast was celebrated on Midwinter from the last of the twelve nights. But what did the Heidense Germanen do with Midwinter, so known to the Christians, among other things?
As Epiphany?
Reports of the first Christian missions to Scandinavia go into this subject; Dietmar van Merseburg mentions a sacrificial feast in the year 932 in Lerje, where in the month of January, 'about the time that NOS THEOPHANIAM DOMINI Celebramus, people, horses, dogs and roosters were sacrificed. So there was a lot of sacrifice with midwinter.
Using more at the Joel Festival, we'll talk about that later in time. This article has been long enough.
The twelve nights are called Weihnachten in German and Wyenachten in the Middle Dutch, sacred nights. If you count back twelve nights from Midwinter, you will end up on Christmas Night, the long-time fixed solstice date of long before Christ's birth.
From these twelve nights, the heathen year was calculated. A new moon that lights in the twelve sacred nights means a leap year. In the summer, an extra month had to be inserted (called 'Litha' at Beda). So such a year counted 13 months.
The moment of solstice, because that is what the Modraniht is all about, which Beda is talking about, was already fixed in the early Roman era and put on their weekly calendar that was taken over by the Germanen from the 3rd century. The Germanen placed their own gods in the places where Roman gods were in the Roman weekly calendar and we still have them.
The Germanen and therefore also the Angels of Beda seem to have taken over that old solstice date, which is not (anymore) the actual solstice.
But it is not at all necessary that this solstice date of December 24/25 has been taken over from the Romans. Possibly the Germanen already had him.
The actual solstice (this year on the 22nd of December) cannot be observed for the ordinary Germanic person, but can be calculated for the specialist and after about three days possibly visible to this specialist, depending on where he is in Germanje. The sun seems to stand still during the twelve nights. Only from Midwinter on the twelfth day does the common German notice that the days are going to be longer!
When it was said under Emperor Julian that in Gaul the feast was moved from Midwinter to Christmas, the Franks reacted violently. The situation remained unchanged for a while.
With the actual December 22 solstice, we are in the depths of winter. In the three days from solstice to Christmas, the bells were constantly ringed in Friesland for a reason.
But whether the sun, moon, actually the entire cosmos survived it was far from certain even after Mother's Night. If we count the twelve nights from the night after the mother's night, the last of those twelve is the night of January 5 to January 6. If we watch the sunrise in this period (SEE IMAGE) the sun seems enchanted.
Only after the end of the twelve nights on Third Day does the sun start to rise earlier in the morning. Only from then on do the days become more visible because only from then does it come from two sides.
Finally!
On December 13, 2023, the new moon was and with that new moon the First Joel Month (Giuli near Beda) began. After the First Joel Month, which ends on January 10, the Second Joel Month follows
(Also called Giuli at Beda). So there are two Joel months. If one speaks of the Joel time, the period is meant between December 21 and January 7. There are two Joel months because the Joel time often falls in both months. This year, Joel Time is fully in the First Joel Month.
For example, a saying from Norway says that one can speak of the Joel time when talking about the period between December 21 and January 7:
