*NOUN Appoints Ramatu Ibrahim Acting Bursar After Marafa’s Death* The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has appointed Mrs. Ramatu O. Ibrahim as the Acting Bursar, following the sudden and untimely death of the substantive Bursar, Mallam Nasir G. Marafa. The appointment, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, with the concurrence of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Malam Isa Yuguda, CON, takes effect from Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and will remain in force until further notice. The Registrar of the University, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi, announced the appointment in a public notice issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. According to the Registrar, the appointment is aimed at ensuring continuity, stability and effective leadership in the University’s financial administration at a critical period. The University Management described the late Mallam Marafa as a dedicated and dependable officer who served the institution with commitment, professionalism and integrity. It said his contributions to the financial administration and institutional development of NOUN would be remembered with gratitude and appreciation. Mrs. Ibrahim, who until her appointment served as Deputy Bursar, Treasury, is an experienced university administrator with extensive knowledge of the University’s financial operations. She has served in various major operational units of the Bursary Department, gaining broad experience in accounting, financial management, treasury operations and related administrative processes. In her immediate past role as Deputy Bursar, Treasury, Mrs. Ibrahim provided professional leadership and oversight of the University’s treasury operations. The Registrar noted that her extensive experience across the Bursary Department, together with her knowledge of NOUN’s financial systems and institutional processes, positions her to provide effective leadership and sustain the delivery of efficient, transparent and accountable financial services. The University Management expressed confidence in her ability to discharge the responsibilities of her new office with professionalism, diligence, integrity and a strong sense of institutional responsibility. The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University Management, congratulated Mrs. Ibrahim on her appointment and wished her a successful tenure. *IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT* This is to inform all students that all National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Study Centres will be on break, Wednessday until Thursday following the passing of the University's Bursar. The temporary break is in honour and mourning of the late Bursar. Therefore, no official activities or services will be available at the Study Centres during this period. Students who intend to visit their Study Centre for any official purpose between now and Thursday are advised to postpone their visit, as they may not be attended to. According to information available to the University, Mallam Nasiru Gusau Marafa was reportedly shot while returning from Gusau. Mallam Nasiru Gusau Marafa was a dedicated and committed staff member of the University who served the institution meritoriously and occupied various positions of responsibility and authority during his career. He was appointed Bursar of the National Open University of Nigeria in September 2022, a position he assumed with a strong sense of duty and commitment to the advancement of the University. His sudden demise is a profound loss to the University community. The entire University community mourns the passing of a distinguished colleague, dedicated administrator and valued member of the NOUN family. At this period of grief, the University extends its deepest condolences to his immediate family, relatives, friends, colleagues and all those who mourn this monumental loss. We pray that the Almighty Allah grants the family and the entire University community the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Further information concerning the burial arrangements will be communicated as soon as details are released by the family. May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and grant his family, friends, colleagues and the entire University community the strength to bear this painful loss. *OFFICIAL CLARIFICATION ON NOUN MATRICULATION, OATH FORM & COLLECTION OF MATRICULATION GOWNS* IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL NEW STUDENTS Dear New Students, This is to provide a clear and official clarification regarding the forthcoming Matriculation Ceremony, Oath Form, and collection of matriculation gowns. All newly admitted students are advised to read this information carefully. *šŸŽ“ 1. MATRICULATION CEREMONY — PHYSICAL & ONLINE* The matriculation ceremony will be conducted physically at all designated NOUN Study Centres across the country. New students are encouraged to attend physically at their respective Study Centres. This is a special and memorable occasion where the University officially welcomes you as bona fide students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). It is also an opportunity to: āœ… Meet and interact with fellow students āœ… Make new friends and exchange contacts āœ… Take pictures and create beautiful memories āœ… Celebrate with your classmates āœ… Enjoy the matriculation experience with your family and loved ones You are also welcome to come along with your parents, siblings, relatives, or loved ones to celebrate this important milestone with you. *šŸ’» WHAT IF I CANNOT ATTEND PHYSICALLY?* The matriculation will also be streamed online from the NOUN Headquarters in Abuja. Therefore, students who may be unable to attend physically can join the online livestream and watch the ceremony from wherever they are. However, please understand that online participation is primarily for viewing the ceremony. It does not mean that the physical matriculation ceremony at your Study Centre has been cancelled or replaced. The main ceremony, including the Vice-Chancellor's address and other official University/Senate proceedings, will be streamed live to the Study Centres. After the official proceedings, students at the Study Centres can proceed with their own celebration, wearing their matriculation gowns, taking pictures, interacting with one another, and enjoying the occasion. So, if you are available to attend physically, we strongly encourage you to go and experience it firsthand. It is a one-time ceremony and a beautiful part of your university journey. šŸŽ“šŸ“ø *šŸ“ 2. CLARIFICATION ON THE OATH FORM* Students should also note that the Oath Form can still be completed after the matriculation ceremony. Therefore, if you are unable to attend the matriculation ceremony physically, do not panic about the Oath Form. You can request for the Oath Form afterwards, complete it, and have it signed accordingly. Attendance at the physical matriculation ceremony is not compulsory. However, if you have the opportunity and time to attend, it is highly encouraged because it gives you the opportunity to participate in this important milestone and celebrate with your fellow students. *šŸŽ“ 3. COLLECTION OF MATRICULATION GOWNS* From Monday,7th September, individual Study Centres will begin providing information on the collection of matriculation gowns. Students should follow the instructions and arrangements provided by their respective Study Centres. Please note that a refundable deposit may be required before a matriculation gown is issued. The amount may vary from one Study Centre to another depending on the centre's arrangement. For example, a centre may request ₦2,000, ₦3,000, ₦5,000, or another specified amount. The deposit is refundable upon the proper return of the gown, subject to the Study Centre's policy. This deposit is mainly to ensure that the gowns are properly returned and kept in good condition. *āš ļø 4. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATRICULATION CAP* Once you collect your matriculation gown, please take proper care of it. *DO NOT WASH THE MATRICULATION CAP WITH WATER.* You may wash and iron the gown itself where necessary, but do not wash the cap with water. Instead, you can gently brush and clean the cap to keep it neat. Please ensure that the gown and cap are returned in good condition according to the instructions of your Study Centre. *šŸŽ‰ FINALLY, CONGRATULATIONS!*
