ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL: "Disabled people are being attacked and treated as less than human" (Eileen Chubb)
This Parliament is reducing disability benefits, removing the winter fuel allowance from the elderly, and hiking National Insurance contributions on hospices
Now it could legalise assisted suicide - an extremely worrying mix
Vote could be tomorrow, contact your MP now: https://together.eaction.org.uk/asbill

Myth: Assisted suicide will not impact upon the provision of good end-of-life care.
Reality: In the context of our rapidly-aging society, escalating health and care costs, and increasing pressure to consider the economic impact of patient care, there will be inevitable trade-offs.

ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL:
Myth: Assisted suicide will not impact upon the provision of good end-of-life care.
Reality: Medical killing discourages more human-centred approaches to suffering, such as the development of better palliative care models and better pain management.

ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL:
Myth: Nobody will be offered assisted suicide just for feeling a burden on others

ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL:
Myth: Assisted suicide is just a personal choice. It’s nobody else’s business.
Reality: If assisted suicide is facilitated by the State and funded by taxpayers, it’s everyone’s business. It would fundamentally change our culture and healthcare, create financial incentives to pressure vulnerable people to die, and send a message that some lives are less valued.

ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL: "Pain isn't even in the top 5 reasons why people opt for (Assisted Suicide)" (Kevin Yuill)
Fear of becoming a burden on family or caregivers is the most cited reason
In Canada, 65% of those who took up MAID (Medical Assistance In Dying), cited burden as the key motivator
Once normalised, choice can become pressure and even "duty to die"
We needed proper debate on all these issues & we haven't had it
