As you say, there are many opportunities for you to speak to anyone you wish to, without the meeting (which was already this year the target of a particularly obsessional left wing mob seeking to cancel it) being hijacked or diverted. I sincerely hope that such discussions will eventually result in resolving any disputes that are purely personal rather than ideological/political. And for that matter, there are plenty of people who refuse on principle to buy H&D! As it happens, there was a brief period about twenty years ago when I was on very bad terms with Mark Collett – a dispute which at one point regrettably escalated to a level even more serious than the recent dispute between the two of you. But after a few years we realised we were and are essentially on the same side. Though there are today two particularly policy areas (not factional stuff) where I happen to disagree with Mark (Collett), the bottom line is that I think he's someone who has done and is doing a lot of good for the cause. That doesn't mean I'm not open to hearing and promoting other groups' points of view, as I've sought to do regularly in my Movement News column and occasionally on the H&D website. There's a point though where factional debate crosses the line into vile personal abuse, and that line has been crossed. I'd be very happy if you and the other banned person totally dissociated yourselved from those personal attacks, and avoided reposting them, but naturally you, I, H&D and the rest of us in this fractious community will take our own decisions on where and when to draw such lines.

On Friday night and yesterday morning I was with a guest from overseas, then I was at the railway station to meet people off trains. I didn't take part in any discussion of banning people.What I did discuss with the editor (among others) several days before the event was the quite disgusting personal abuse that I've seen on one or two Telegram channels recently aimed at one or two people in PA. I've no knowledge of the precise disputes involved, but in my book there's absolutely no excuse for posting such vile material, nor for spreading it around. In one case an account made remarks last year about a friend of mine that would certainly have led to its owner being punched had I met them (assuming the owner of that account is male). Bear in mind that although I've had a Telegram account for a while I haven't used it much (in fact hardly at all) until very recently, so it's only recently that I read some of the crap posted about last year's event, including personal stuff to which I took great exception. I said to the editor that it was pretty obvious that bad account wasn't written by Alek Yerbury. However, for other reasons which I'm not fully aware of, the editor took the view that Alek and another person were likely to be a disruptive presence and that the meeting would be used as a vehicle for personal vendettas. I fully respect and support his decision. I hope that these personal disputes can be resolved between the people concerned, but the H&D meeting certainly wasn't the place to do that. As for the authors of the two abusive channels (who as I said, I'm certain cannot be Alek Yerbury himself) I don't regard them as comrades in any sense. They are the sort of scum we can well do without, and I hope that Alek and the other 'banned' person (whom I don't know enough about to discuss) will shun those disgusting channels in future.
