7) The Olisa is an Oba right from his original domain in Imesi and since he resided in Ijebu-Ode with the Awulaje, it will be disrespectful for anyone to address the Olisa again as an Oba. This therefore explains why the expatriate administrators decided to address the Olisa as Chief. 8) The word “Chief” is an English word an which of course came into existence or being only during the Colonial rule and whereas the Olisa meaning the head of Isa has been in Ijebu-Ode since the settlement of the first Awujale at Ijebu-Ode over one thousand years ago. 9) The Olisa has many traditional rights he performs in Ijebu-Ode, and most of the rituals and ceremonies performed for the Awujale are also performed for the Olisa e.g. Agemo and Obirin Ojowu etc. 10) Succession to Olisa is hereditary and there are 7 ruling houses for Olisa, and up till the moment over sixty Olisas have been installed. 11) The Olisa sitting and administering with other Obas in the Old Ijebu Judicial Council is a good evidence of his status and position as an Oba (Court Oba Marun). 12) The Olisa was a member of the Old Ijebu Judicial Council which is the highest court in Ijebu. The court composed of 5 from amongst the important Obas in Ijebu-Land, Akarigbo, Olisa, Ajalorun, Dagburewe and Olowu. Other Obas who eventually served in the court were – Akija, Molode, Gbegande, Liken, Orimolusi and Ebumawe. 13) The Customary in the appointment of an Oba, the Olisa, immediately after his appointment moves to a place at Ijada knowns as “Afokoro”, whereas he resides for 3month and after which he moves to Ilisa, the traditional and official residence of Olisa of Ijebu-Ode. 14) The 7days at Ilisa is significantly marked by “Ileten” ceremony, Rituals and traditional ceremonies pertaining to the installation of the Olisa. 15) Obas in Ijebu-Land do not use Itagbe, but Chiefs use Itagbe as a symbol of office. The Olisa does not use Itagbe, he wears a beaded Crown as the symbol of his Office, just as the other Obas mentioned in paragraph 11 above. 16) All ancient Obas in Ijebu-land like the Awujale, the Ajalorun, Olowu, the Dagburewe have ODIS (traditional messengers). The Olisa also till today has his own Odis and Ogbeni Odi. 17) Chief do not have Odis or Ogbeni Odis. 18) Some Obas now create the post of Olisa, these new Olisa, use Itagbe. They do not have Afins of their own and no crowns as the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode. These new Olisas which tends to create confusion are more honorary Chief-Itagbe Chiefs. 19) Like other Ijebu Obas, the Olisa has Gbedu drums. 20) The Olisa of Ijebu-Ode is therefore distinguishable from the crops of new Olisas. Thereafter, the Olisa was asked to and left the meeting. Members discussed the issue extensively and at length, facts were elicited that because the seat of the Awujale of Ijebu-land was at Ijebu-Ode, the Olisa could not be called an Oba as a mark of respect for the Awujale. All these facts were supported by the President Oba Alayeluwa Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebu-land. After exhaustive debate on the issue, the Traditional council. 'RESOLVED' “That from all available facts, records and history at its disposal, it has come to the conclusion that Olisa of Ijebu-Ode was of the status of an Oba and was automatically entitled to be and to continue as member of Ijebu Traditional Council." The President (Alaiyeluwa Oba S.K Adetona the Awujale of Ijebu-Land) then called on Chief L.A Akinsanya (The Olisa of Ijebu-Ode) to substantiate his claim as to his entitlement to continue as a member of Ijebu Traditional Council. At this juncture, Chief L.A Akinsanya (The Olisa of Ijebu-Ode) read out a memorandum containing the history and status of the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode to show his importance in Ijebu Traditional Council. The contents of the memorandum are subjoined hereunder:- HISTORY AND STATUS OF THE OLISA OF IJEBU-ODE 1) The Olisa came with Ogboroganda, otherwise known as Obanta now known as the Awujale of Ijebu-Land about a thousand years ago. 2) Before the Olisa joined the entourage of the first Awujale to Ijebu-Ode, he was an Oba and therefofe head of his domain known as ISA somewhere in the area now known as Ekiti in Ondo State. (Imesi) 3) The Olisa was prevailed upon by Ogboroganda to accompany him on his journey having left Ile-Ife. They will their entourage eventually arrived at the place known as Ijebu-Ode. 4) The Olisa came to Ijebu-Ode with his beaded crown, brass sword and other objects signifying his status as an Oba in Yoruba Land. 5) The Olisa of course acknowledge the supremacy of the Obanta, and both of them settled at Ijebu-Ode where the Olisa had his Palace at Ijada (Aba-Ilisa) with his Palace staff. He used his beaded Crown on appropriate occasions. 6) The residence of the Olisa in Ijada has always been called Ilisa and the design is similar to the design of the other Afins in Yoruba Land.

*EPISTLE: UNMASKING THE GLADIATORS IN TRANSPORT UNION CRISIS IN OGUN, THE INSIDERS GAME* It is a knowing fact that the transport unions in Ogun State especially the car/bus section has been engulfed in crisis after the last gubernatorial election in the state. It is also an open secret that there have been a serious contention over the three transport unions not until recent that relative and easy calm returned, but it last for a while. The issues initial involved stakeholders who put in their best to ensure peace and tranquility, and a measurable result was achieved, but one of the union leaders in the person of Alh. Ismailia Mustapha Adewale Yaro seems hell belt in confusion in the State as regards the Transport Unions matters. It was recent noticed that Yaro went ahead to bring in non State actors who suspected to be members of radical groups, in his bid and efforts to cause mayhem in the state. Though, it remains to be seen if Yaro on his own could weather the storm alone without the help of an insider the government circle as there are unconfirmed speculation at some quarters that Yaro might have the backing of the SSG, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, and such information is anything go bye, it a dangerous trend that must be stopped. There are also complains in some certain quarters that Yaro have removed some prominent Union leaders who worked acidicously and contributed in no small measure for victory of His Excellence Prince Dapo Abiodun in the last guber election and replaced them with his hoodlums, who are suspected to be members of prescribed radical groups and his doing so in exchange for the havoc he uses them to cause in the state and intimate other stakeholders. Some sources claim that Yaro is only trying to destabilize Ogun State because he is not an indigene of the state and might relocate with the speed of light if eventually he succeeds in cause trouble in the State. So, It is imperative at this junction, we appeal to our peace loving governor, His Excellence, Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, MFR, to intervene in this matter and caution some of his political appointees who might involved and indirectly destabilizing the same government they are part of. And Yaro and his cohorts should put where they rightfully belong. As they say no price is too much for peace, and everyone involved should shady their sword and give peace a chance and avoid any act compable of causing unrest in our dear State.

Contrary to the false and abominable claim in the publication that Oke Eri and not Ijebu Ode was the old Ijebu kingdom written of by 16th century Portuguese navigators, it is pertinent to state for the records that neither does Oke Eri predate Ijebu Ode nor has any superior traditional status whatsoever to Ijebu Ode. Ijebu Ode is the very first settled, crowned and homestead of all Ijebus. Also, contrary to the over ambitious, fraudulent and self-serving claims in the publication of presenting/representing one Oba of Oke Eri, the traditional status of Oke Eri is Baale not Oba and the selection of the Baale of Oke Eri is governed by Ogun State Cheiftaincy laws. Furthermore, the appointment of the incumbent Baale of Oke Eri conforms to the Baale of Oke Eri Chieftaincy gazette of 1958 which is the existing law governing the appointment of the Baale of Oke Eri. The sponsors of the publication under review are advised to seek interpretation of the said Baale Chieftaincy gazette at the Ogun State Ministry of Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs to safe them unnecessary wastage of time, resources and disturbance of public peace over very straight chieftaincy matter. while we sympathise for the ignorance of the publication's author(s) for exercising confidence in error and illegality under the illusion of a non-existent disregard of the authority our father, the Awujale in the nomination processes of the incumbent Baale of Oke Eri. We hereby educate the authors that the Awujale of Ijebuland remain the Paramount authority for the approval of any Oba in Ijebuland and shall accord same privilege to Oke Eri at the appropriate time. The Eti Ruling House recognised under the Baale of Oke Eri Chieftaincy Declaration has the right house to present new Baale of Oke Eri has done the needful as accepted by Oke Eri Community, anyone or group trying to create crisis in Oke Eri shall be made to face wrath of the laws of the land. We chose the path of cooperation over conflict. “No one was arrested or threatened. These themes shall continue to animate my policies and interaction with the constituent parts of our political economy. “I take on this vital task without fear or favour and I commit myself to this work until we have built a Nigeria where no man is oppressed. “In the end, our national greatness will not be achieved by travelling the easy road. It can only be achieved by taking the right one. “The words of the American President Franklin Roosevelt certainly ring true: “There are many ways of going forward. We dare not plant our feet in idle standstill in the middle of the intersection of hope and despair. “We know the proper way forward and we shall take it! “The initial rays of a brighter tomorrow now appear on the early horizon. An abundant future and our capacity to achieve that future lie within our reach. Democracy and the institutions it begets offer to take us to our profound destination. “Let us board this progressive train together. Together, let us move Nigeria forward. “Let’s continue to keep the fire of democracy burning. Let’s keep the torch lit for generations to come.”

But we make allowance for the legitimacy of views that differ from our own. “Where other forms of government impose against the will of the people, democracy aims to make leaders sufficiently humble that they conduct themselves as servants of the common good, not as viceroys of the narrow interests of the mighty. “My dear compatriots, Nigeria faced a decision of untold gravity twenty-five years ago: Whether to veer toward a better destination or continue aimlessly in the fog of dictatorship. “We made the right choice then. We must continue with that choice now. “As Nigerians, we must remind ourselves that no matter how complicated democracy may be, it is the best form of governance in the long run. We must also be aware that there are those among us who will try to exploit current challenges to undermine, if not destroy, this democracy for which so much has already been given. “These people do this not to make things better but to subject all other people and things to their control and dominance until the point that, if you are not counted among their elite, then your life will be small and no longer owned by you. “This is the great battle of our day and the major reason we specially celebrate this Democracy day. “Fellow Nigerians, our Democracy is more than a historic fact. It is a living, breathing reality. “The true meaning of this day is not to focus solely on the great deeds of the past that have brought us to this point. “Yes, we pay eternal honour to those who laid down their lives, sacrificing everything to pave the way for the nation. “I stand uniquely placed in this regard. I was among those who took the risk to midwife the birth of our democracy. I am now a direct and obvious beneficiary of the fruits of those historic efforts. “As president of this nation, I am morally and constitutionally bound to preserve this precious form of governance. I vow to do my utmost best to protect your rights, freedoms, and liberties as citizens of Nigeria. “Even more than that, I pledge to do whatever is necessary to cement democracy as our way of life. “Although the challenges are steep and multiple, I am grateful to lead Nigeria at this moment in her history and point in her democratic journey. “I come before you also to declare that our most important work remains before us. This real test has never been whether we would rise to challenge the slings of misfortune and grievous pain of dictatorship. “The real test is whether we shall lower our guards as the shadow of despotism and its evident physical danger fade. “I say to you here and now that as we celebrate the enshrinement of our political democracy, let us commit ourselves to the fulfilment of its equally important counterpart, the realisation of our economic democracy. “I understand the economic difficulties we face as a nation. “Our economy has been in desperate need of reform for decades. It has been unbalanced because it was built on the flawed foundation of over-reliance on revenues from the exploitation of oil.
