Why are salt and charcoal added in earthing pit?
earthing is accumulated by charcoal and salt which is used for lower resistance. Generally, the earth pit is filled with clay, and the surroundings covered by the charcoal and the salt layer. During the earthing, we should have to select the position where the electrode is dipped in the soil.
Charcoal is used to retain the moisture for a long duration because it is an adsorbent and salt is added to increase the conductivity both these products help to pass the leakage current through earth wire as early as possible to remove the chances of shock.
Sometimes there is some corrosion on the wire at the ground end which reduces the conductivity of the conductor. We add some salt to increase the conductivity so that the charge from the top will go into earth easily.
