Because there is no known way to heat a rock and get a layer of glass on it without having a composite layer... There is no composite layer on a meteorite... The only way to get a layer of glass on a rock is to dip it in melted glass... Within concave earth the tail of the meteor is heat from the friction sliding down the glass.
