Passenger vehicle sales rose 3.94% year-on-year to 3.49 lakh units in April. Three-wheeler sales grew marginally by 0.66%, while two-wheeler sales declined 16.7% to 14.59 lakh units: SIAM. India’s unemployment rate in urban areas is at 6.5% in April, whereas it is 4.5% in rural areas. This is the first time that the government has released unemployment data on a monthly level, which is a shift from the quarterly timeline previously. Tata Motors: Tata AutoComp, an associate company, has formed a joint venture with Mexico-based Katcon Global to produce advanced lightweight materials for automobiles in North American markets.

Tata Power: net profit rose 16.5% year-on-year to Rs 1,043 crore in the Jan-March quarter. Dividend announced: Rs 2.25 per share. Record date: 20 June. Eicher Motors: net profit rose 27.3% year-on-year to Rs 1,362 crore in the Jan-March quarter. Dividend announced: Rs 70 per share. Record date: yet to be announced. Hindustan Aeronautics: net profit fell 7.7% year-on-year to Rs 3,977 crore in the Jan-March quarter. Muthoot Finance: net profit rose 29.7% year-on-year to Rs 1,478 crore in the Jan-March quarter.

The central government approved a new semiconductor manufacturing unit in Uttar Pradesh. It will be a joint venture between HCL and Foxconn and will be set up near Jewar airport in the YEIDA region (Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority), Uttar Pradesh. The plant is designed for 20,000 wafers per month.

Stocks to watch, 14 May: Stocks like AurionPro Solutions,VST Tillers Tractors,VIP Industries,Honeywell Automation,GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, Metropolis Healthcare, ITD Cementation India, Max Financial Services, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers, ASK Automotive, Bharti Airtel,Tata Motors,Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries, and Bharti Hexacom will be in focus on May 14.

India’s annual inflation fell to 3.16% in April (lowest since July 2019), compared to 3.34% in March. Food inflation fell to 1.78% (vs 2.69% in March). Housing and health inflation remained almost unchanged. Education, transport and communication, and fuel and light inflation rose: MoSPI. USA’s annual inflation rate fell to 2.3% in April, from 2.4% in March. Core inflation (excluding food and fuel costs) remained unchanged at 2.8%.

L&T: secured large orders from CPWD for the construction of secretariat buildings in New Delhi and from the Andhra Pradesh government for the State Legislative Assembly. A large order for L&T ranges from Rs 2,500 crore to Rs 5,000 crore. Tata Steel: net profit rose 113% year-on-year to Rs 1,301 crore in the Jan-March quarter. Dividend announced: Rs 3.60 per share. Record date: 6 June. The company also approved a $2.5 billion (around Rs 21,410.95 crore) investment in its Singapore-based wholly-owned subsidiary 'T Steel Holdings Pte Ltd'. Cipla: net profit rose 30% year-on-year to Rs 1,222 crore in the Jan-March quarter. Dividend announced: Rs 16 per share. Record date: 27 June. Siemens: net profit fell 27.5% year-on-year to Rs 582 crore in the Jan-March quarter. GAIL: net profit rose 1% year-on-year to Rs 2,492 crore in the Jan-March quarter. Dividend announced: Rs 1 per share. Hero Moto: net profit rose 24% year-on-year to Rs 1,161 crore in the Jan-March quarter. Dividend announced: Rs 65 per share. Record date: 24 July. Airtel: net profit rose 432% year-on-year to Rs 11,022 crore in the Jan-March quarter. Dividend announced: Rs 16 per share and Rs 4 per partly paid-up share

The US and China announced a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs, starting from 14 May. US tariffs on Chinese imports will reduce from 145% to 30%, and Chinese tariffs on US imports will reduce from 125% to 10%. The US president plans to sign an executive order that will reduce drug prices by 59% in the US, as part of a new pharma policy. The new policy will link US drug prices to the lowest prices paid in other countries: according to Donald Trump’s social media post. The Indian government has reopened 32 airports in the country for civil aviation after the ceasefire decision in the India-Pakistan conflict.

LTIMindtree: secured its largest-ever multi-year deal worth $450 million with a global agri-business, providing an AI-powered model for application management, infrastructure support, and cybersecurity. Adani Power: received a letter of award from UPPCL for the supply of 1,500 MW of power from a new 1600 MW thermal power project to be built in Uttar Pradesh. SRF: net profit rose 25.6% year-on-year to Rs 526 crore in the Jan-March quarter.

The US Fed kept its key interest rate unchanged in the range of 4.25% to 4.5% in its May meeting. The UK’s central bank cut its key interest rate by 0.25% to 4.25% in its May meeting. Wireless telecom subscribers saw a net addition of 29.31 lakh in March. Jio saw a net gain of 21.75 lakh subscribers, followed by Airtel, which added 12.51 lakh subscribers. Vodafone-Idea (Vi) lost 5.41 lakh subscribers, while BSNL gained 49,177 subscribers: TRAI.
