The Joyful Martyr: Ḥarrām ibn Milḥān [Raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu] At Bi’r Maʿūnah, the Prophet ﷺ had sent a group of companions to teach Islām. It was a mission of peace, but they were betrayed and ambushed. Among them stood Ḥarrām ibn Milḥān. As a spear pierced through him in sudden treachery, he did not curse, cry, or flee. Instead, as the blood flowed from his body, he shouted out and said with unshakable joy: فُزْتُ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ "By the Lord of the Kaʿbah, I have succeeded!" At the very moment of being stabbed, his heart was filled with certainty and love of meeting Allāh. This was not a moment of pain, it was a moment of arrival. And here is another incredible part: It is reported that the man who stabbed Ḥarrām was so moved by his final words and the serenity on his face, that it stayed in his heart. Later, he embraced Islām. Ḥarrām’s martyrdom became a means of Daʿwah. His sincerity pierced deeper than any blade. He died giving a message louder than a thousand speeches: "This is the truth. This is success. This is Islam." References: Sīrah, Ibn Hishām, Tabaqā, Ibn Sa'd, Sahīh Bukhārī and others.

From the Bridal Chamber to the Battlefield: Ḥanzalah’s Ultimate Sacrifice Ḥanzalah ibn Abī ʿĀmir [Raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu] earned the honorable title “Ghasīl al-Malā’ikah” - the one washed by the angels. On the very night of his wedding, a time filled with personal joy, comfort, and the tender beginnings of marriage, Ḥanzalah received the urgent call to join the Battle of Uḥud. Instead of resting and enjoying his new life, he chose to break free from the comfort of this precious moment. So urgent was the call of the Ummah’s defense that he rushed to the battlefield without even performing ghusl (ritual purification), demonstrating how deeply he prioritized the needs of the Ummah over his personal ease and happiness. On the battlefield, Ḥanzalah fought bravely and was martyred. The Prophet ﷺ later told his companions: "I saw the angels washing Ḥanzalah between the heavens and the earth with the water of the clouds, in vessels of silver." See Al-Mustadrak by al-Ḥākim, Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān, also recorded by al-Bayhaqī and Tabaqāt Ibn Saʿd. Reflections: ❖ This extraordinary honour was granted because Ḥanzalah sacrificed even his personal comfort to answer the urgent call of the Ummah. ❖ His story reminds us that revival does not wait for the "right moment" in our lives, it demands immediate action fueled by sincere concern and responsibility for the collective Muslim community. ❖ His story is a timeless proof that the path to true reform demands breaking free from comfort, stepping into sacrifice, and prioritising the Ummah’s needs with unwavering resolve.

The Story of The Sincere Bedouin: He Was True to Allāh, So Allāh Was True to Him A Bedouin man approached the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, embraced Islām, and expressed his desire to accompany him in migration. The Prophet ﷺ permitted him and entrusted some companions to teach him the religion. During a battle, the Prophet ﷺ distributed war booty among the fighters, reserving a share for this Bedouin. However, the man declined the reward, stating: “O Messenger of Allāh, I did not follow you for this. I only followed you so I am shot here with an arrow – he pointed towards his throat – I die and then enter into Paradise.” He meant by this, that I did not accept Islām, believe in you, follow you across the lands and join you in battle for any worldly gain. The Prophet ﷺ responded: “If you are truthful to Allāh, He will be truthful [in his reward] to you.” They remained for a while, and another battle ensued against the enemies. The Muslims once again rose up and pushed on. In the second battle, there were a number of Muslim soldiers who were martyred, among them was this bedouin man. His body was carried and brought to the Prophet ﷺ. He had been martyred after a courageous battle. He was killed by a single arrow that struck him in the very place he had pointed to [i.e. his throat]. Upon seeing this, the Prophet ﷺ said: “He was true to Allāh, so Allāh was true to him.” The Prophet ﷺ then shrouded him in his own cloak and led the funeral prayer, supplicating: The Prophet ﷺ then shrouded him in his own cloak and led the funeral prayer, supplicating: “O Allāh, he was your worshipper, he left [Makkah] as a muhājir (migrant), he died as a shahīd (martyr) and I am witness to all this.” Recorded in Sunan an-Nasā’ī. How honoured is this man and we dont even know his name, but the Prophet ﷺ is a witness of his Shahāda.

Virtue of The 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah & Shahādah Among the special seasons of worship are the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, which Allāh has preferred over all the other days of the year. Ibn 'Abbās reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allāh than these ten days.” The people asked, ‘Not even Jihād for the sake of Allāh?’ He ﷺ said, “Not even Jihād for the sake of Allāh, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing [was killed].” Ṣaḥīḥ Bukhārī (no. 969). Benefits from the narration: Virtue of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah: ❖ The great virtue of worship in the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah. ❖ The first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are loved by Allāh. Virtue of performing righteous deeds: ❖ It is proven that Salāh, reciting Qur’ān, giving charity and general righteous deeds are more rewarding in these days then doing them in the daytime of any other month. Virtue of Jihād: ❖ Jihād was asked by the companions because they knew Jihād has a great status in Islām and the great virtue it carries as mentioned in the narration of Abū Dhār when he narrated, I asked the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ ‘Which action is the most virtuous?’ He replied, “Faith in Allāh and Jihād in His Cause.” Ṣaḥīḥ Bukhārī (no. 2518). ❖ The companions asked “Not even Jihād for the sake of Allāh?” which shows the understanding of the companions that Jihād was one of the most virtuous deeds in Islām. Virtue of Shahādah in the way of Allāh: ❖ The virtue of Shahādah – being killed in the path of Allāh – is clear from the narration , “except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing.” – this indicates that striving in the way of Allāh with wealth and ones life and being accepted as a Shahīd by Allāh is more rewarding then righteous deeds done in these days. ❖ The Shahīd has many blessings, from them is all his sins are forgiven and is only accountable for debt. ❖ The virtue of Shahīd is usually not mentioned by speakers today when mentioning this narration, but those that striving in the path of Allāh today with their wealth and life and are killed in the way of Allāh is more rewarding then all the righteous deeds done in the days of Dhul Hijjah. ❖ The Prophet ﷺ measured the virtues of Dhul Hijjah against Jihād because the great virtue of the deed. Nothing surpasses worship in the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah in virtue except Shahādah in the way of Allāh. Action plan: ❖ Strive hard in doing good deeds in these 10 days as much as possible. Like reciting Qur'ān, Salāh, charity and more. ❖ Increase in making supplications and especially for those that are striving in the path of Allāh against oppression. ❖ Plan the next few days and free some time every day for the remembrance of Allāh.
