Brazilian President Calls for Julian Assange Support Lula da Silva has urged nations to take a stand against the US extradition facing the WikiLeaks co-founder. “Assange has done important work in exposing the illegal actions of one state against another. His imprisonment runs counter to the defence of democracy and freedom of the press. It is important that we all stand up for him,” Lula wrote on Twitter. A new appeal will be lodged to block Julian Assange's extradition this coming week. He faces up to 175 years behind bars if found guilty of espionage charges - for exposing US war crimes.
