The Largest IPO in Wall Street History
SpaceX’s highly anticipated Initial Public Offering (IPO), scheduled for June 12, is sending shockwaves through the global financial markets.
Specifically, Elon Musk’s aerospace company will list on the Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX, offering over 555 million shares at a price of $135 per share. With a fundraising scale of $75 billion, this landmark deal propels SpaceX’s market capitalization to nearly $1.8 trillion, making it the largest IPO of all time and placing the company among the world’s most valuable enterprises.
The frenzy surrounding the deal is far exceeding initial expectations. According to Reuters, demand for SpaceX shares has already surpassed $250 billion, representing an oversubscription of 3.5 to 4 times the target offering.
If it hits its target valuation, SpaceX will leapfrog major titans such as Meta Platforms, Berkshire Hathaway, and even Tesla, which currently sits at a market cap of around $1.3 trillion.
The meteoric rise of SpaceX’s valuation has left many investors astonished. In just six months, the company's valuation has nearly doubled, blowing past its $125 billion valuation in 2022 and skyrocketing roughly 150-fold from the $12 billion recorded back in 2015.
Some estimates suggest that this IPO could mint over 4,000 new millionaires within SpaceX—ranging from engineers to cafeteria staff—who for years have been compensated with stock options instead of cash bonuses.
