A TRIBUTE TO REV. DR. UMA UKPAI: A MAJOR GENERATION-SHAPING PROPHETIC VOICE — APOSTLE AROME OSAYI The Lord’s mighty hand apprehended him from Eastern Nigeria and, by His Spirit, tempered him into a fierce, unquenching voice through whom the counsel of Heaven resounded ceaselessly across Nigeria and far beyond for decades. His evangelistic fire was relentless — his ministry struck at the very roots of darkness wherever it appeared. Through him, the gospel became a burning torch that lit up cities, towns, and villages across the nation. To many of us, he was affectionately known as Daddy Uma Ukpai — a man who carried the philanthropy of Jesus and dispensed it freely without reservation. As a young believer growing up in Makurdi in the eighties and nineties, I remember Daddy Uma Ukpai’s crusades as seismic kingdom spectacles. They were more than gatherings; they were divine visitations. Through them, the gospel came alive — Jesus was seen by infallible proofs, and multitudes were convinced that indeed, He lives! Daddy’s words, works, and unwavering faith carved eternal imprints upon our generation. I dare say, there is hardly any evangelist of renown in our time who has not, in one way or another, been influenced by his faith, fervor, and fearless witness. His life was a sermon; his ministry, a template of total surrender to God’s call. Today, the torch he carried continues to burn in the hearts of those he inspired. The seeds he sowed in tears will yield fruits that will endure until the coming of the Lord. His race is finished, his work complete, his crown sure. Though we will miss his physical presence, we rejoice in knowing he fulfilled his divine mandate — to the glory of God and for the edification of the saints. Good night, Daddy Uma Ukpai.
