This is the little guy we were desperately searching for in Brittany! The Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica), known in French as the macareux moine. This bird is disappearing from Brittany. The already small local population was also badly affected by the Amoco Cadiz disaster, which I talk about in the video. Puffins are unusually adorable little creatures. They can hold several fish in their beaks at once, stuffing them in just like Buddy does with his food. They dig burrows, their beaks glow under ultraviolet light, and puffin couples usually stay together for life. They raise only one chick per breeding season… and in Brittany, they are slowly vanishing. That’s how things are, my lovelings…

hi my lovelings here's some interesting fact of the day from Kolobubu 🧬 CAR-T vs Aging: One Injection, Long-Lasting Effect? Researchers at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory reprogrammed CAR-T cells — already used to treat certain cancers — to find and destroy senescent cells. What are senescent cells? These are cells that have stopped dividing due to age or damage but haven't been cleared by the body. They linger in tissues, releasing substances that promote inflammation and disrupt neighboring cells. That's why they're sometimes called "zombie cells." How the therapy works: • Many senescent cells show increased levels of a protein called uPAR on their surface. • CAR-T cells are programmed to recognize this protein and eliminate the cell carrying it. • After a single injection, these CAR-T cells persisted in mice for over a year and kept doing their job. Aged mice showed improved exercise tolerance, better glucose regulation, and some metabolic improvements after treatment. In a preventive experiment, the cells were still detectable 15 months after administration. That's an impressive duration for a mouse. Study in Nature Aging What is CAR-T? These are your own T-cells — immune cells — extracted from the body and genetically engineered to target a specific marker. In this case, it works like a "living senolytic": the cells patrol the body and remove some of the accumulated senescent cells. But there are limitations: • So far, the effect has only been shown in mice. This is not yet proof of human rejuvenation. • uPAR is found on non-senescent cells too, so there's a risk of damaging healthy tissue. • Modern CAR-T therapy is complex and can trigger severe immune reactions. • Oncological CAR-T drugs currently cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. The price of a future anti-aging therapy, if it ever exists, is unknown. So no "anti-aging injection" exists yet. But the idea of creating immune cells that independently hunt down one of the sources of age-related inflammation for years? That looks very promising. That's the scoop!

Well, my lovelies, I’m done. I’ve finally finished editing my new video about Pointe du Primel, the next episode in the “Celtic Curse” series. And the funny thing is, this video wasn’t even supposed to exist. When I went to Bretagne, I was planning to film a completely different story, about a rather strange genetic condition found among people in the region. We were staying not far from Pointe du Primel, so I went for a walk there and completely by chance stumbled upon a place whose name made me start digging, simply because it made absolutely no sense in that location. And at some point, I realized that the story had found me, rather than the other way around. It turned out that this headland has such a rich and dark past that there’s enough material for more than one episode. Shipwrecks, a massive oil disaster, old vessels that still lie on the seabed, and some genuinely unbelievable and rather sinister coincidences. Here’s just one of them. Right off this very headland, a massive oil tanker lost control. Its rudder was about as tall as a four-story building and weighed around 160 tons. It tore through the steering compartment, injuring several crew members. And all of this happened right here. At this exact headland. I’m a pretty skeptical person, but while putting together the story of Primel, I caught myself wondering more than once: guys… are you sure your “Celtic curse” is just a legend? So instead of a regular travel video, I ended up making a story about one place and one of the most famous oil disasters of the 20th century. There’s very little surviving footage, so I used AI to reconstruct some of the events and ships from old photographs, newspaper footage, diagrams, and technical drawings. And this is the part I’m especially curious about: did I manage to capture the feeling of this place and the events that unfolded there?

Here’s a thought from Kolobubu for you to ponder, lovelies (Kolobubu is my bot that finds interesting news for me to share with you 💜) 🐭 Universe 25: when paradise killed the mice In 1968, ethologist John Calhoun built a perfect world. A 2.7-meter enclosure with unlimited food, water, comfortable temperature, clean nests, and zero predators. The mice didn’t have to do anything. No hunting, no fighting, no defending territory. Just enjoy life and have fun, as they say. Starting population: 8 mice. After 4 years there were 2,200 of them. Two years later they were all dead to a mouse. The colony went extinct in absolute abundance. What happened: At first, everything went according to plan. Birth rates soared. But once density peaked, the mice stopped behaving like mice. The males, who no longer had to defend territory from predators or compete for resources, lost their sense of purpose. Some spiraled into senseless aggression. Others sank into total apathy — and the "beautiful ones" emerged, grooming themselves obsessively, ignoring females, and refusing to fight at all. The females stopped building nests and caring for their young. Maternal instinct simply shut off (fun fact) — because there was nothing to do. Calhoun called it the "behavioral sink." And the key point was this: the mice were… bored. There were no natural challenges. And the mice… broke. Why people still talk about it: It seems that when challenges disappear, when you don’t have to overcome obstacles or fight for survival, social roles blur because there’s no function left. Doesn’t that ring a bell? Modern research confirms it: the brain switches off without structure, without purpose, without the need to act. Isolation from challenge rewires neural circuits, and the organism can no longer strive for survival and reproduction. Caveats: • They were mice, not humans But the experiment raises a question: what if it’s not overpopulation that’s killing us? What if it’s the absence of meaning? Tell me what you think, lovelies!

Только enjoy life and have fun как говориться.

I fixed the wheel! The extra bearings and spacer washers will arrive on Friday. Now I need to sort out the mess in Buddy’s room. It used to be just Buddy’s mess, but now my tools are scattered all over the place too. But the wheel runs so quietly now!

This means that one of the key elements of the official reconstruction is based entirely on Patrick’s account. I have no evidence that Patrick is lying or that he was directly involved in the killings. But I believe his possible role may have been considerably more serious than simply failing to pay attention to his wife’s condition.

I’ve been following the Lindsay Clancy trial. It is, of course, a horrifying story, something you would never wish on anyone. And no matter how this trial ends, I cannot imagine how she will go on living, because the realization of what happened must be unbearable. For those unfamiliar with the case: Lindsay killed her three children and then attempted to take her own life. She was left paralyzed after jumping from a window. The defense argues that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings and was unaware of what she was doing. The prosecution maintains that she was severely depressed but understood her actions and had planned everything in advance. Before the tragedy, Lindsay repeatedly sought psychiatric help. She received inpatient treatment, was prescribed numerous psychiatric medications, and had her treatment regimen changed constantly. She spoke about suicidal thoughts and openly admitted to her husband and mother that she was having thoughts of harming the children. There were an enormous number of warning signs. But the professionals concluded that she did not pose an immediate danger. In the end, what happened happened. However, I am deeply confused by the role of her husband, Patrick, in this entire story. Based on what has been presented in court, I get the impression that he was fairly detached both from the children’s day-to-day care and from his wife’s condition. Lindsay was often left alone with three young children. Yet when Patrick was supposed to be looking after them, the family had a nanny helping him. In other words, the nanny came when he was with the children, but not when his wife was alone with them. I find that detail absolutely astonishing. After the tragedy, Patrick divorced Lindsay, moved to New York, began a new relationship, and has since married another woman. Of course, none of that proves anything in itself. People process grief in very different ways and have the right to continue living their lives. But in the context of the whole story, I am left with a deeply unsettling feeling that something about this picture does not add up. Lindsay cries constantly during the trial. Whenever witnesses begin talking about the children or describing what happened, she can barely listen. Patrick, at least in the footage I have seen, appears much more detached. A lack of tears is obviously not evidence of guilt. Perhaps this is simply how he copes with trauma. But alongside everything else, it still feels strange. And now we come to the part that makes no sense to me at all. When Patrick returned home, he found Lindsay critically injured on the ground beneath the window. According to his testimony, she said two perfectly coherent sentences: “I tried to kill myself.” “The kids are in the basement.” Yet no intelligible words from Lindsay can be heard on the 911 recording. Journalists who were in the courtroom when the recording was played said that she could only be heard wheezing and moaning. Patrick asked her to open her eyes, look at him, and say his name, but she could not respond. The paramedics confirmed the same thing. Lindsay could not speak coherently. She could only wheeze and make isolated guttural sounds. And her condition really was critical. She had cuts on her neck and wrists, significant blood loss, fractures, and a severe spinal injury from the fall. By the time she arrived at the hospital, her body temperature was 82.1 degrees Fahrenheit, approximately 27.8 degrees Celsius. In other words, she was already severely hypothermic. So here is the question: how could someone in that condition manage to say two clear sentences, yet literally seconds later be unable to say even her own name? Theoretically, her condition could have deteriorated rapidly because of shock, blood loss, and hypothermia. I am not claiming that it was physically impossible for her to have said those words. But they are not on the recording. No one except Patrick heard them.

“The kids are in the basement.”

Here are the trace of a bearing ring which fell out of the groove.

So, guys, my bearing removal kit finally arrived. I rushed home from work, changed my clothes because this was obviously going to be a dirty job, and got to work. The kit is called an Inner Bearing Puller Set. But at first glance, it was completely blin impossible to understand how to use the thing. This was clearly one of those jobs you can’t figure out without a shot of vodka. So I had to wake up my inner Russian plumber, Volodya. Volodya watched a few videos and decided that it all looked fairly easy. Although the kit does include this massive heavy contraption that could quite easily kill someone. Anyway, I replaced one bearing. And then I discovered that I’d lost the little spacer washer from the other one. Until today, I had no idea that internal spacer washers even existed. But when I started putting the bearing back in, I noticed an empty wooden surface underneath it where the washer had been and it was quite clear place for it. As far as I understand, I shouldn’t hammer the bearing back in without this tiny detail, because then the bearing will come into direct contact with the wood. Considering the speed at which Buddy runs in that wheel, he might end up starting a friction fire in there 🦦 🔥 I found the groove where the washer used to sit. I did not find the washer itself. I searched absolutely everywhere. It’s entirely possible that I accidentally vacuumed it up. So yes, it’s a sad little story about a washer. But I’ve already found one in the right size on Amazon. I’m going to order it now and wait. In the meantime, Buddy is living without his wheel and is still pissed off. Although I think he’s calmed down a little. He was at his angriest on the first day without it, but now he seems to be adapting. So that’s the situation, guys. Basically, if you ever get yourself a sable, you’ll end up learning about everything: bearings, collet pullers, and internal spacer washers.
