Mid-way Impostor Syndrome I still catch it slip out of my mind sometimes that most people who surround me today in college have made HUGE sacrifices to be here. As early as in first years of high school, or even much earlier, that majority decided they’d funnel their energy to academic pursuits. Not just academic pursuits in a general sense; a dominating majority of them have been directed by their parents to be financial analysts, engineers, or dentists. Meanwhile, I’ve gone through all 9 circles of hell since freshman year to realize that in fact History is the only discipline that I could do consistently enough to build any personally and socially meaningful career. What was I thinking before? Well, I had a feeling of discontent with Aral Sea’s fate. Wanted to know what others thought about it. Got into it. I guess I learned what people think about it. Then what?

What is the profundity of someone dedicating their life to X (science, job, place, person)? I get it - ambition, adventure - but why is it so profound that almost every society to ever exist has always honored figures like this?

Direct flights are now operating from Hudson Yards straight to Grand Central. It’s 1:34 AM when I hop off the bus from Philly with a 20-minute delay, heart racing with only 13 minutes to spare before the last train to New Haven leaves me stranded. If I miss it, I’m out in the cold, unforgiving concrete wilderness of Manhattan until daylight. Maps out. Subway? Nope, gets me there by 1:55 AM - way too late. Uber? 9 minutes to ride, topped with a 5-minute wait. A quick prayer. Then, a glimmer of hope - bikes, docked about 200 meters away. No second thoughts, I dash, grab a bike, and pedal like my life depends on it. In a breathless 9 minutes, I blaze from Hudson Yards to Grand Central, my lungs flame. 8:01 AM, it’s crunch time with a pset due in just 3 hours and zero sleep under my belt. The answer sheet is - obviously - blank, mocking me, for a task that’s clearly a two-timer. By 10:59 AM, it’s somehow, miraculously, done. Oh, and chicken sandwich at Pauli Murray Dining Hall for brunch? Pretty damn good.

For those who are not on Uznet, my friend (@mq_blog) just created a telegram bot that stores your personal information (passwords, locations, names, files etc) and provides quick access and sharing in just a few seconds! Personally, I’ve been struggling to find an app that could help me do this, but now that I got this NATIONAL PRODUCED bot I see no rival option.

Every History class I take (related to Central Asian in one way or another) reassures me every time that we are living in the ruins of once a vibrant, grand civilization. More than a simple chauvinistic inspiration, I feel a sort of involvement by divine intervention in a post-apocalyptic mission whose accomplishment requires more of an awe with Intellectual History of my community rather than just "build up the economy" type sh!t.
