ECLGS 5.0 — Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme GS-3: Economy | Priority: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ • Approved on 5 May 2026; implemented through National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company (NCGTC). • Enables additional credit up to ₹2.55 lakh crore. • Operational till 31 March 2027 or until the guarantee limit is exhausted. • Covers MSMEs, eligible non-MSME business borrowers and scheduled passenger airlines. • Guarantee coverage: • 100% for eligible MSMEs90% for eligible non-MSMEs • Additional credit can be up to 20% of peak fund-based working-capital outstanding in Q4 FY2025-26, subject to applicable limits. • Loan tenure: 7 years, including 2-year moratorium. • As of 20 August 2026, 6.74 lakh guarantees worth about ₹2.50 lakh crore had been issued. Why important? Credit guarantees reduce lenders’ risk and improve liquidity for businesses during economic disruptions. Mains: Credit guarantees can support MSMEs, employment and investment, but require safeguards against moral hazard and fiscal risks. Prelims: ECLGS → NCGTC → ₹2.55 lakh crore → 100% MSME → 90% non-MSME → March 2027.2. Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects Scheme GS-3: Energy | Priority: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ • Approved on 13 May 2026. • Total financial outlay: ₹37,500 crore. • Objective: Promote coal and lignite gasification and convert domestic coal into higher-value products. • Gasification converts coal/lignite into syngas, primarily containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen. • Syngas can be used to produce: • Methanol • Ammonia • Urea • Other chemicals • Expected investment: ₹2.5–3 lakh crore. • Around 25 projects and approximately 50,000 direct/indirect jobs are envisaged. • Broader government target: 100 MT coal-gasification capacity by 2030. • First application window closes 7 September 2026. Challenge: Coal gasification can still have substantial carbon emissions, water requirements and environmental impacts. UPSC linkage: Energy security vs decarbonisation; clean-coal technologies; coal transition. ⸻ 3. Coal India & Energy Security GS-3: Energy | Priority: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Coal India supplied 322.90 MT of coal during April–August FY2026-27, compared with 302.60 MT a year earlier — a 6.7% increase. A student walked in for career counselling with doubts, confusion, and a lot going on personally. She walked out with clarity, a direction, and a plan. ❤️ We explored her career options, understood her strengths, went through our courses and resources, and most importantly—worked on her Gap Year Plan A, B & C. Because life doesn’t always go according to plan. But together, we’ll make sure that her circumstances don’t decide her future. We’ll work through the challenges, adapt the plan when needed, and keep moving forward—until she succeeds in life. 🤝🏻 Career counselling isn’t about telling you what to do. It’s about helping you see what’s possible. — Samjho Civils
