"I have done everything to make my business work, but no sales. I even paid one coach like that, but nothing changed." I asked, "What exactly is the business?" He said, "Fish farming." Good. I like practical examples. I asked him, "How many fishes did you stock when you started?" "One thousand," he said. "How many died?" "About 250." "How many have you sold so far?" "Maybe 500." "So how many are left?" He was quiet. I asked again, "Sir, how many are left in your pond?" He fumbled a bit and said, "Erm... maybe 200 or 300." I smiled. "You see your problem?" Many business owners don’t know their numbers. They just assume. And when sales are not coming, they say marketing doesn’t work. I continued, "Sir, let me ask you. How many buyers have you had so far?" "Roughly 40 people." "So, your 40 buyers took 500 fishes?" "Yes." "That means an average buyer buys around 12-13 fishes, right?" He kept quiet again. I could hear his brain resetting. Then I asked, "How do you get your buyers?" "Well, I post in my church group, tell friends, and sometimes, I do small WhatsApp ads." "And in total, how many people have asked about your fish?" "Maybe 200 or so." I laughed. "So, out of 200 people that showed interest, 40 bought. That means your conversion rate is 20%. And that’s not bad." He was silent. "Now, let me show you something powerful. If your goal is to sell the remaining 300 fishes, how many more people do you need to reach?" He didn’t know. So I did the math for him: "If 200 inquiries gave you 40 buyers, that means for every 5 people that ask, 1 buys. If you want to sell 300 more fishes, you need 25 more buyers." "Yes," he said, following. "And if 200 inquiries gave you 40 buyers, to get 25 more buyers, you need about 125 more inquiries. Which means you don’t have a sales problem. You have a marketing problem." Now, he understood. His business wasn’t failing. He just wasn’t reaching enough people. This is why businesses die—not because their product is bad, but because they don’t know their numbers. Marketing is not magic.
