The UK Home Office published a nine-page booklet in recently titled “Understanding behaviours and expectations in the UK: a guide for asylum seekers,” which explicitly states that "sex without consent constitutes rape — a serious crime that can lead to prison, loss of accommodation and support, and an adverse impact on asylum claims" while also "detailing the age of consent (16), the requirement for clear and free agreement in all sexual contact, gender equality (women need no male permission to work, study or travel), and related public behaviour norms."
Officials noted that "laws and customs may differ from those in arrivals’ home countries, and the document has been widely reported and debated as an official effort to clarify UK expectations."
