يعمل العلاج من خلال استهداف بروتين USAG-1، وهو البروتين الذي يثبط بصورة طبيعية تكوّن الأسنان الإضافية.
في التجارب المخبرية، نجح الباحثون في تحفيز نمو أسنان جديدة بالكامل بمجرد تثبيط هذا البروتين. وعلى عكس زراعة الأسنان أو أطقم الأسنان، تعتمد هذه الطريقة على تكوين سن حقيقية حية لها جذر طبيعي وارتباط بيولوجي بعظم الفك.
وإذا أثبتت التجارب البشرية نجاحها، فقد تغيّر هذه التقنية مستقبل طب الأسنان بصورة دائمة.

For the first time, a drug designed to trigger the growth of new teeth in humans has entered human clinical trials. The treatment works by targeting a protein called USAG-1 — a protein that naturally suppresses the formation of extra teeth. Scientists believe the human body may still retain a hidden ability to grow new teeth inside the jaw, and researchers are now trying to reactivate that dormant mechanism.
In laboratory experiments, researchers successfully stimulated the growth of entirely new teeth simply by blocking this protein. Unlike implants or dentures, this approach is based on the body’s own natural regeneration process — meaning a real living tooth with a natural root and biological connection to the jawbone. If human trials prove successful, this technology could permanently change the future of dentistry.
