Some commentators on social media claim Labor’s anti free speech bill is dead. It isn’t. The bill is very much alive, with negotiations underway in Canberra right now. If I had my way, the bill would be in the shredder and Canberra would be empty. Australians do not need more laws restricting their freedoms. We need the government to enforce the laws already on the books. This bill as originally drafted could potentially give government the power to outlaw any group under the guise of hate. How long until having a biblical view on sex, gender and marriage is deemed as hateful, or perhaps having a view that mass immigration and multiculturalism is a detriment not a positive? Laws like this could be abused. And I’ll put money on it, Susssan Ley’s woke Liberals will back Labor’s anti speech bill. They’ll “water it down” just enough, then ram it through. They always do.
