We came to a conclusion that GCC is definitely better, so a brief summary of the conversations about why GCC is superior: GCC is an excellent choice for compiling kernels, especially for those who prioritize stability and proven performance. The most recommended are GCC EVA and GCC 12, with these you will have better performance and stability in kernels. What is the advantage of the newer and older clangs? The newer one is faster than the previous one. Clang is integrated and updated every day, so we can expect differences in performance every day, but don't ask about how stable it is because no one can be sure how stable a compiler is that is updated every day. Clang LTO does not produce any performance difference, it was hypothesized that it would produce more performance, but it does not. So if you want a stable compiler, go for GCC. Because gcc was definitely better. And if you try pgo, you'll get a nice improvement for everyday use. The only advantage with clang is CFI and perhaps the shadow call stack. While Clang supports CFI (Control Flow Integrity), the vulnerabilities related to CFI have been largely addressed in modern kernels, making this feature less important. The CFI issues have been addressed in most kernels, and I don't think we'll encounter a CFI violation issue. As for GCC, LTO with GCC produces modest improvements over clang LTO at any time. And traditionally, Linux has always been compiled with GCC. In fact, the only "security" part that gcc would need to remove is SCS, which I don't think would make a huge difference. 🗿🍷 GCC: Simply the best. GCC: The real programmer's choice. About NoteBooks: Avell is generic. Any brand can sell the same thing they sell. 2am from "positive" sells the same backbones as Avell. Why I don't recommend Lenovo?: The Bios is poorly made, so booting is slow even with SSD, support takes forever to receive and send your notebook.
