INVITATION TO SHOWCASE FIRM'S BUSINESS MODEL AT THE MERGER, ACQUISITION AND AFFILIATION SEMINAR 2024
The Malaysia Institute of Accountants (MIA) is pleased to invite partners and staff of audit firms to attend a complimentary webinar āMIA Forum with Practitioners." This webinar aims to provide participants with insights on the revised Practice Review Framework, recent regulatory changes and ongoing efforts to improve audit quality within SMPs.
Participation is limited to 2 persons per audit firm, and confirmed attendees are entitled to 2 CPE hours, subject to being in the forum for at least 80% of the time and the completion of a questionnaire at the end of the event.

Enabling pertinent research and education is vital to the future relevance of the accountancy profession.The Malaysian Accountancy Research and Education Foundation (MAREF) - which is a trust initiated by the regulator and developer of the profession, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) in 2007 under the Trustees (Incorporation) Act 1952 - plays a significant role in this regard.
The main goal of MAREF is to encourage and promote the advancement of accountancy profession in Malaysia. In 2018, MAREF introduced the Priority Research Topics (PRTs) Programme to drive the commissioning of research on areas pertinent to the accounting profession, funded by the MAREF Research Grants. Two programmes have been completed while the third programme is currently ongoing.
Going forward, MAREF aspires to organise future editions of the PRT Programme to stimulate research and education for the future fitness of the profession. For more information on MAREF and the PRT Programme, please visit https://maref.org.my/.

As part of its Islamic Finance advocacy, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) in collaboration with Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) is pleased to share the āWhite Paper on Shariah Auditā. This is the first publication to be issued under the Shariah Audit initiatives spearheaded by the MIA Islamic Finance Committee which contributes to Malaysiaās global leadership in Islamic Finance.
This White Paper emphasises the importance of shariah audit practices and governance structure in attaining shariah compliance. It also provides an overview of the diverse regulations and current practices, as well as the issues and policy recommendations relating to shariah audit in Islamic banking and takaful, Islamic capital markets, Islamic co-operatives, public trust entities and other Islamic institutions such as state Islamic religious councils.

A virtual networking session jointly organised by MIA and The Indonesian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (IAPI) was held recently to advance the strategic collaboration between the Malaysian and Indonesian accountancy firms. The event was participated by about 60 participants from more than 30 accountancy firms in Malaysia and Indonesia. Four Malaysian firms and four Indonesian firms were given the opportunity to showcase their business model and preferred affiliation mode.
