Hi there! Here’s another pronunciation #tip for you: did you know the word “our” should be pronounced like this?

And these 👉🏻 are KEYS to yesterday’s #listening 1. We’re all having fun here 2. See, that’s what I thought you were going to say Pay attention to two things: 1️⃣ Notice how /h/ is nearly lost in the word “having” - especially when she’s saying it the first time. ❗️/h/ is a very weakly articulated consonant, it gets reduced a lot: call (h)im, that’s (h)er boss, I (h)ave a dog. 2️⃣ Notice how /t/ is differently pronounced in words “what” and “thought”. You must have heard about a flap; that’s how /t/ is pronounced in “what”. In “thought” it’s a different phenomenon, not just a regular /t/ and not a flap either. What is it? Drop a “🔥” for me to break it down for you later.

The sound in the middle of “what are you” and “what do you” is a flap. Without getting into much detail, that’s the sound that /t/ or /d/ turn into when they’re found between vowels. Note that you have to pronounce the following similar question word phrases with a flap too: - who do you - how do you - where do you - what do I - what am I Listen to these examples:

Good morning everyone! Here’s another pronunciation #tip. Did you know “anti” and “multi” are pronounced like this? Of course, other pronunciations are possible too, but this is how “anti” sounds most of the time. As for “multi”, You’d want to pronounce it this way in words like multinational, multibillion, multimillion, especially when you stress them. Cheers ☺️

No wonder most of you chose “the fear of being judged” as the main turn off. This is main cause of public speaking fear, it’s rooted in our evolutionary history and biology. For our ancestors, being rejected by a group could have equaled death. Since then this fear of rejection and, later, criticism in general has been imprinted in our psyches. Understanding the root cause of the fear is the first step towards controlling it.

Why are people afraid of public speaking?

So, public speaking encompasses any instance of talking to people “publicly”: not only presenting on stage, but also - sharing a report with the team, - telling a story at a get-together, - having some small talk before the event begins, - even proposing a toast / saying a speech at a dinner party Those who said you feel “💪🏻😁” when it comes to public speaking, share your tricks and pro tips with us in the comments! Thanks for the reactions 🔥❤️ stay tuned for more videos! On another note, you know that apart from accent instruction I’ve been gravitating towards public speaking coaching as well. I figured I enjoy helping people become not just better speakers of English, but better speakers in general. I’m preparing some content on this topic for you, and I wanted to start with a couple of questions:

Hey there! I’m starting to post a series of bite-sized pronunciation tips to help you improve your accent bit by bit. This is pronunciation #tip number 1/100. Enjoy 😀

#theory Unfortunately, adult speakers can not just listen and repeat. We can’t magically absorb foreign pronunciation, not without proper instruction. I’ve broken down the three reasons why so in my post on Insta, and I’m sharing one of them below: 1️⃣ Not everyone can imitate easily. While the imitation approach works wonders with kids, adult speakers can differentiate between far fewer shades of sounds. Research shows we have trouble imitating because we either can’t hear how one sound differs from another, or we do, but we can’t figure out how exactly something is pronounced. You can waste years trying to improve your accent by making yourself listen harder. But if you don’t work systemically, it’s not going to get you far.

Huh? How do you like this advice?
