âIs it about Pastor Joe?â Kwadwo asked.
âUhm.. no, I mean, I dunno...â
âIs okay. I know thatâs who heâs talking about. He tried some with one of my paddy.â
âWhat? Farreal?â Kofi looked at Kwadwo in shock. Kwadwo held a sachet of water against his lips and took a sip.
âAhhh,â Kofi belched then continued, âyhup, he did, I mean I dunno everything but he tried something but it didnât reach dere.â
âWait, what are you saying? What did he do?â
âAh, I didnât tell you?â Kofi shook his head.
âOkay, well I donât know everything, just that one of my paddy on the prayer team said they went for some prayers at Pastor Joeâs house and it was cool and all but then he wanted them to pray at midnight and remove their clothes and things, so they would be praying naked or in demma boxer and he was pouring oil and stuffs on dem. He said it was weird, but he didnât want to say anything.â
âAh, all dis happen and you no tell me? Ah? He be occult or sometin?â
âOh nah, is not dat he occult, but ... anyway I dunno, but I heard some stuffs das all.â
âLike, other stuff pass that?â
âNot really, buh anyway its not about the man but the message. I think he a true man of God, but some things I donât associate with you barb.â
Kofi nodded his head, wondering how much Kwadwo really knew and was not saying.
âYah, so donât get too close to some of these preachers. Some of dem chale... hmmm... just keep the focus on Jesus and not dem else you get problem.â
âYeah, yeah you right,â Kofi nodded in agreement. âMy ma told me same stuffs when I was young.â
âYeah. I like Pastor Joe but... I dunno. He is weird sometimes you barb?â
Kofi nodded again, then Kwadwo abruptly changed the subject to football. Kofi was glad of the change.
Kofi lay on his bead staring into the darkness. While Kwadwo snored in the next bed, sleep eluded him. He couldnât shake off what he had said, especially about how he had dealt with the same issue.
When Kwadwo had asked him on their way home what the prophet had said to him, Kofi had only shaken his head. Kofi picked his phone and held it in front off him: 3:52... he lowered the phone to his side and continued to stare into the darkness.
A few minutes later (so it seemed), his phone vibrated in his hand, jarring him awake. He had fallen asleep after all. He lifted the phone up â it was just after 5:00 and it was his mother calling him.
Quickly he sat up and answered the phone, worried. There was no reason for her to call him unless something was wrong with the twins.
âHello?â he answered softly, trying not to wake Kwadwo.
âKekeli â Kekeli...â his motherâs voice sounded strained, but calm.
âMa what is it? Are the kiddies okay?â Kofiâs mother was silent for a moment, then she spoke again.
âThey are fine, but you. I had a dream about you.â
At this, Kofi swung his legs over the side of the bed and listened. His mother was a prophetess and a real one too, so heâd learned long ago to listen whenever she said she had a dream. She relayed the dream to him, which was quite confusing, but ended with her more or less confirming what the prophet had said about him having the call of God on his life.
âKekeli, donât take it for granted and be careful. Someone want to destroy your life. Iâm going to send you something, which I want you to wear it â donât take it off even to bath.â
Later, when Kwadwo finally woke up, Kofi relayed to him what his mother had said and how it confirmed what the prophet had told him (except for the part about his sexuality â which of course the prophet had only hinted at and not said directly.
Kwadwo listened wide-eyed, and seemed a bit awed by Kofi. After all if both the prophet and his mother had said the same things to him, then it must somehow be true; Kofi must have some kind of spiritual power.
âBut what about what the prophet said about a ritual?â Kwadwo asked, suddenly remembering in more detail what the prophet had said the night before. âHe said that someone had done a ritual over you.â
Kofi looked at Kwadwo surprised and bit his lip. He hadnât remembered that Kwadwo overheard that part of the prophecy and didnât know what to say about it. He certainly didnât want to tell Kwadwo about what had happened with him and Pastor Joe and Prince.
âKofi it is very simple. The fire of God is on you and his calling is on your life.â
As he spoke a lady from the crowd shouted âJesus!â but the pastor continued.
âMay we have silence please,â the pastor commanded. He looked into Kofiâs eyes. âYes Kofi â you have a calling on your life. It has always been there. Ask your mother if it is not true. But I will tell you I have seen some people in your life â a pastor, like a spiritual father to you, and another â I see you in a room with them and he is doing a ritual over you.â
At this Kofi began to tremble and his eyes widened. He was genuinely scared at the words the man spoke.
âDonât be afraid, I will not say what I saw â but you know what Iâm talking about donât you?â
All the moisture had left Kofiâs mouth; all he could do is nod.
âYes I know â it was done in the dark but God saw it.â
Involuntarily, Kofi felt himself dropping to his knees as the pastor spoke to him. The pastor snapped his fingers and an assistant rushed over with a bottle of oil. The pastor laid his hand on Kofiâs head gently, then removed it, lifted Kofi by the chin and spoke again, but this time he leaned down close to his ear and spoke in a whisper so that Kofi alone could hear.
âJust because you are tempted, and just because you have fallen, doesnât mean you are not called. We donât get to choose our temptations. God loves you no matter what.â
The pastor stood back up and poured the oil on Kofiâs head. Kofi began to tremble and shake as if someone were shaking him. He let out a loud guttural scream and images flashed through his mind like scenes from a movie. All the while he was screaming loudly and tossing about, thrashing his arms wildly as if he was fighting.
He felt as if something or someone was being pulled out of his body, or that he was himself being divided into two. He tossed and rolled and could hear nothing of what was being said to him until he finally fell completely silent.
When he opened his eyes, he found himself in a state of disarray; his shirt was torn and one of his shoes was missing. He had scattered several rows of chairs and had nearly knocked over the keyboard and drums.
He blinked then tried to get up but felt light-headed. âWhat happened?â he asked to no one in particular. Two young men reached out and helped him to his feet and walked him back to his seat where he sat astonied. The service was almost over â the closing prayers were being offered and soon, people were shuffling out of the auditorium, leaving Kofi with Kwadwo, the two young men and some few others.
As he was leaving, the guest pastor hurried to him and pulled Kofi aside. âJust a moment, I want a word with you.â
Kofi stared at him, shaken. What kind of man is this, he wondered. Heâd met a lot of preachers, but this one was different than anyone else.
Kwadwo and the other guy withdrew, leaving Kofi briefly with the pastor who spoke to him in a confidential tone. âKofi... I donât want to embarrass you and I didnât want to shame you or anything by what I said. It is just what God shows me, that is all.â
Kofi nodded. âIts okay, is fine please. Thank you, daddy.â
The pastor continued, âAh hmmm, yes, well I didnât say everything, but I wanted to just tell you privately I know what you are dealing with.â Kofi stared at him blankly; the pastor continued. âI know because I have also had that issue. Iâve been through it. It is not easy.â
âWhat do you mean?â Kofi asked, suspiciously. The pastor stared at him with a hint of a smile.
âDo you want me to say it openly or plainly?â
Kofi shook his head.
âGood, then just know that I know. And we can talk about it sometime if you want to. Just... donât let it take over your life. Just be careful.â The pastor dug into his pocket and produced a card. âCall me if you want to talk. It is well.â
With that he released Kofi who joined his friends as they returned to campus together.
This went on for some time, then the pastor closed his eyes and spoke âKK come here.â He spoke as if it were a command. No one in the group moved except one young man in the back of the church who stood and began to come forward. Without opening his eyes, the pastor spoke, âNot you, thank you for being obedient. I mean KK, but they call you Kofi. You play the organ. You, come here.â
Kofiâs mood raised even more when another musician came in who had been anxious to play. Kofi was more than happy to relinquish his place on the organ for the praise session, instead moving to join a group of guys who were clapping and singing loudly. As the music played, Kofi joined the dancers â moving his body rhythmically to the music while sweat dripped down his head. He was happy.
The praise and worship was followed by another session of prayer, then another. Then the âman of Godâ arrived who was to do ministration â a thin, middle-aged man with just a hint of grey at his temples. The atmosphere was charged and Kofi, like everyone else, was excited for what was about to happen.
The young man who introduced the speaker was busy hyping the speaker, piling accolades upon accolades on him whilst the mostly student crowd stamped and cheered. The speaker, however, stood up before the introduction was finished and interrupted in a calm professorial voice, sounding more like a university lecturer than a prophet or firebrand preacher.
âPraise the Lord. Be seated and thank you for that introduction but I am just a servant of God. Iâm not here to be praised. It is God who is to be praised. So if you want to shout - shout for Jesus!â
The students jumped to their feet shouting and jumping and running around. Kofi was among them. He grabbed the chair he was sitting on and held it aloft whilst shouting loudly. The musicians began playing again and the praise team started singing.
âJehooo Jehooo Jehooo Jehoo Jehovaah!!â Soon a full session of praise had broken out, complete with dancing, drumming and shouting for another 10 minutes before the preacher could calm the crowd again.
When he did, he began simply, reading calmly and quietly from the scripture. He closed his Bible and prayed then preached for about 15 minutes in a calm even voice, quite unexpected for such a âhypeâ occasion. Some of the students had even begun to doze off, including Kwadwo. Kofi, however, was fascinated and followed every word the man said.
After he finished, he bowed his head and prayed and then pointed to one young lady in the crowd and called her forward.
The girl walked forward, and the preacher smiled at her with a fatherly expression, took her hand and whispered something into her ear. The room was quiet except for the musicians who had begun to play. The preacher, however, signalled them to be quiet.
âPlease, thank you I donât want any music now. Thank you, thank you praise team, Thank you musicians. Brothers and sisters, this young lady â your name is Comfort, right?â he asked looking at the young lady, who nodded incredulously.
âBrothers and sisters, please stretch your hands and pray for Comfort.â He looked at Comfort with kindness and asked, âAre you ready to tell them or should I tell them?â Comfortâs eyes widened and she shook her head, no. The pastor nodded and placed held her hand as the crowd prayed.
Suddenly, without warning, Comfort shrieked and felt to the ground where she rolled back and forth. The pastor watched her for a few moments, then spoke calmly âIn the name of Jesus, stop. Release this girl and return to where you came. Now!â
The word âNow!â is the only word he spoke with any energy, but it seemed to have an effect.
Comfort shrieked again and her body convulsed violently, and she spoke without seeming to move her mouth âI hate you I hate you I hate you! Why? Why are you disturbing me?â
The pastor simply smiled and again told the spirit to leave. Comfortâs body convulsed again, and she lay perfectly still on the floor.
The whole room was silent, and a feeling of awe descended on the group. The pastor proceeded to pray for several other people, most of whom did not shriek or fall. Throughout, he never raised his voice, nor did he allow the musicians to play.
When Kwadwo and Kofi arrived, the place was half-full, and quite warm. Kwadwo made his way to the front where the one leading prayer handed over the microphone to him. Kofi looked around, trying to ignore the keyboardist who was waving for him to come take over, but an overly helpful usher drew his attention.
Kofi wasnât in the mood to play the organ, but the horrid noise emanating from the organ persuaded him otherwise. He too made his way to the front and took over and began to play and Kwadwo led the prayers.
âYÉ da waasee oooo, yÉ da waasee ooo, yÉ da waasee ooo daaaâ
Kwadwoâs voice was had a harsh jagged quality and he kept changing keys which was hard for Kofi to follow on the organ, especially since he was out of practice. He was not a good singer, but what he lacked in ability, he more than made up for in zeal. Fortunately, the singers who were backing him sang well enough to cover his bad singing.
As Kwadwo led, he walked forth and back across the platform, yelling into the mic and praying loudly in tongues. The voices of the others in the prayer meeting too were quite loud, which somehow annoyed Kofi. He wasnât a fan of such types of prayers, but it seemed to be what everyone was into. He was happy when they took a break from prayers and Kwadwo invited the praise and worship team to lead some songs, though he was a but puzzled. He leaned over to ask the bassist about it.
âI thought is just prayer meeting â they had praise and worship already or...?â
âYeah, they had small, but they said it is half-night and some pastor bi is coming to do ministration or something...â
Kofi shook his head and frowned; he hadnât really planned on this, but he was in it now and there was no turning back. He spread his long fingers across the keys and began to play, following the singers.
âHallelujah (amen!) hallelujah (amen!). I want to sing something to start us tonight, maybe some of us are not too familiar with it but it has just been ringing in my spirit...â
Kofi wasnât paying too close attention to the lead singerâs comments, which always seemed the same in any case, that is until she began to sing the words of a hymn heâd not heard for a long time.
âMawu nanÉ kpli me, miagakpe!, Eya nâtÉ nalĂ© mi dâa-si....â
Kofi looked up from the organ and his eyes brightened. Heâd not heard singing in his language since heâd come back to school, and it stirred something in him. Most of the people in the auditorium were quiet, except for a few who joined the lady as she sang.
âAkplÉ mi dedie gbe sia gbe, Mawu nanÉ kpli me, miagakpe!.â
As she sang, Kofiâs fingers found the keys to accompany her, whilst the other musicians simply waited; they didnât know the song. A tear sprang to his eye and he felt his throat tighten. God had been good to him, and he was grateful. He felt suddenly silly and ashamed for his bad attitude from the beginning of the programme and he felt his mood change.
Kwadwo threw the tennis ball in the air again and again as Kofi sat on the floor watching him.
âKofi... that guy that came here.â
âWhat guy?â Kofi asked as he stretched himself. He pulled a book from beneath his bed and began absentmindedly flipping through its pages.
âThe other time I came back from the all-night. You were here with some guy.â Kwadwo tossed the ball, caught it, then sat up on the bed. The room was hot, so he pulled his shirt over his head exposing his chest.
âAhh that guy. Abi I tell you he be one of my classmate.â
Kwadwo stared at Kofi in silence, then twisted his lips to one side. âAh, okay, hmmm.â
âHmmm? Hmmm what? What is it? You know him or sometin?â
âNah, I donât know him but... I think you should be careful with some of these people on campus, like that guy.â
âWhy? What did he do?â
Kwadwo hesitated. He wasnât sure how to voice out what he was thinking or suspected. Well, there was no easy way to say it so he simply blurted out.
âI heard heâs a gay.â
âEhh?â Kofi replied in a surprised tone, looking up from his book. Internally his heart began pounding in his chest, but outwardly he kept his cool. âDoes he know about me?â he wondered silently.
âYeah, I heard heâs a gay guy or maybe heâs not but heâs always moving with this one guy who dress kinda someway. Chaley... these gays hmm. Everywhere ooo. Just be careful. When I saw him here, I kinda got worried what he is trying to do to you.â
âYeah, thatâs true. I mean... I donât know if he gay buh yeah, a lot of dem dey. Buh what he can do to me. Hahahaha. He no go try anytin for my side. He go catch slaps. Hahaha.â Kofiâs laugh was somewhat forced, but Kwadwo didnât notice.
âOhh chaley, not that ooo. They need prayers. I donât even know how they do that. How you let another man eat your distin and you are there? Chaley, is madness.â
Kofi shook his head. âOh Chaley, hmmm....â
Kwadwo continued, âI hear one guy bi for the fellowship they sack him sekoff he was into gayism. Chaley its bad. You should be careful with these guys. Chaley.â
Kofi nodded. âOhh saaa? Who?â
âOh nah, is before we joined. That guy he was doing all kinda of things. I heard he died out of it. Some rich guy use him for ritual.â
Kofi shook his head again, but as he did so, he thought about Prince, the praise and worship leader at the church and about what had happened with him and Pastor Joe. An intense feeling of guilt shot through him, coupled with fear that he might be found out. Then he thought about Kwadwoâs brother, Gabby. He was the one who had introduced him to gayism in the first place. He felt a quick surge of anger.
âYeah, you right, yeah, I didnât know about him though. We were just learning. Heâs in my department though.â
âKofi, you okay?â Kwadwo looked at Kofi intently. He was visibly angry at something.
âYou... am fine. Am cool yeah, but you right. Tans for saying it or telling me.â
âAh, ok, no problem. You coming to the prayer meeting?â
Kofi started to shake his head, then changed his mind. âPrayer meeting? But is it today?â
âOh, its not the usual one. We have another one, but it doesnât always come on. It was announced last week.â
Kofi hesitated, then nodded, agreeing to go.

Samuel grabbed his singlet and pulled it over his head. âIâd better go,â he said as he stood. Kofi said nothing as Samuel went to take his shirt from where Kofi had hung it.
âNo, wait...â Kofi stood and interjected himself between Samuel and the shirt.
âWhat?â
âI... well, Iâm sorry this happened. I didnât mean for it.â Kofi spoke softly and hung his head as he spoke.
âWhat do you mean? Its not your fault. You didnât know your roommate will come.â
âNot that, I mean, yeah, that buh.. I didnât ... I mean touching you and all that. I just... I dunno. Iâm confused.â
Samuel looked at Kofi then sat back down on the bed. Kofi sat next to him.
âWhat do you mean youâre confused?â
Kofi just shook his head and said nothing. Samuel took his hand and patted it. âIts fine Kofi. Iâm not upset with you.â
âAre you sure?â
âWhy will I be upset with you? I like you.â
âI like you too. I mean... I really like you.â As he said this Kofi took Samuelâs hand and held it, then pulled it to his lips and kissed it. âJust that Iâm not sure is right, you know.â
Samuel sighed. Heâd been through this before with guys who were confused about their sexuality. He wasnât prepared to go through it again, At least that is what he had told himself. But he really liked Kofi.
âIts okay, Kofi. Really it is. If you not sure. We donât have to do anything. I should go though.â
âOkay, but are we okay?â Kofi asked as Samuel stood. He didnât stop him this time as he got his shirt and pulled it on.
âYeah, weâre okay.â Samuel finished dressing up in silence and then left. Kofi locked the door behind him.
When he reached his room, he opened his phone to see another message from Kofi. âIâm sorry for everything, please forgive me.â He tried to respond, only to find that Kofi had blocked the line.
Samuel moaned and twisted as Kofi fingered him. Suddenly they were arrested by noise coming from the corridor that sounded like singing.
âWe praise thy name oh Lord... we praise thy name oh Lord...â the voice was growing closer.
At first Kofi froze, then jumped up.
âNo, wait wait,â Samuel whispered. âThey will go. They will go."
Kofi shook his head and quickly pulled his basketball shorts on. âNo no you don't get it... is Kwadwo my roommate. Hurry up pull your clothes on.â
"Oh shit," Samuel exclaimed as he sat up on the bed. He pulled his boxers up, but he struggled with his jeans, which were harder to put on, especially given his thick legs.
âShit, shit!â Samuel whispered again. Then the knock came.
âKinaaaaata, Kofi? Kofi? Chaley you dey oooo, I don have de key.â
âHuh, wha?â Kofi answered, feigning sleepiness. He turned the light on, then moved to open the door.
âEi Kwadwo,â he answered, swinging the door open. âI thought sey you was going to all-night at church.â
Kwadwo entered the room boisterously, âOh chaley I... oh.â
He paused when he saw Samuel sitting on the bed bare chested. Heâd only managed to pull his jeans on before Kwadwo entered the room, but they were still not fastened.
âOh yeah, Kwadwo, dis uhmmm, Sam. Heâs um in one of my classes, yeah.â
Kwadwo looked at him curiously, with a raised eyebrow. âOkay, yeah, nice to meet you Sam. Iâm Kwadwo.â
âNice to meet you too,â Samuel replied without standing.
âYeah, so, yeah I just came to get something I forget. Somebody is waiting for me though so I will just...â Kwadwoâs voice trailed off as he dug into his wardrobe and pulled out something and put in his pocket.
âYeah, so nice to meet you,â Kwadwo said again, extending his hand to shake Samuelâs own. Samuel took his hand this time and shook it.
âSo, Kofi, uhmm... Iâll come late, buh, wait I wanna ask you about something.â
âShould I..?â Samuel made as if to leave.
âOh, nah, is cool. Donât worry. Is not now. Its not anything, just forget. Iâm going. Kofi.â Kofi walked Kwadwo to the door and stepped into the corridor as if he intended to escort him, which was odd, because it was Kwadwoâs room as well. âYeah, Kofi so weâll talk. Iâll be back in the morning.â
âYou got the key?â Kofi asked.
âIs with you or you going somewhere?â
âNah, uhm, Iâll be here.â
âYou sure you donât wanna come to the programme? I can wait if you wanna change clothes.â
Kofi shook his head, âI would buh..â
âAh yeah, your friend." He paused as if he was about to say something more, then continued.
"Okay, so later wai. Nice to meet you,â Kwadwo added, leaning into the doorway to wave at Samuel who waved shyly back.
Kofi closed the door behind Kwadwo and sat on the bed, his head in his hands.
As he stood before him, Kofi reached up and grabbed at Samuelâs breast, brushing the nipple softly with his thumb. Samuel trembled, as his nipple became instantly hard. His nipples were very sensitive. Kofi suddenly pulled his hand away.
âS-s-sorry,â Kofi stammered nervously. âSorry, I didnât mean.. I mean....â
âIts.. its fine. Its okay. Donât worry about it.â Samuel looked at Kofi.
âWhyâd you...?â
âI dunno, I... Iâm...â Kofi fell silent again. âI dunno why you say youâre not nice. Its nice.â
âYou think so,â Samuel replied. Kofi nodded. A thought flashed through Samuelâs mind and without thinking he reached down and grabbed Kofiâs hand and placed it on his breast again.
âYou can touch it... if you want,â he said, breathlessly.
Kofi swallowed, but he didnât remove his hand. Instead, he caressed Samuelâs breast through his sweaty singlet. Samuel closed his eyes and said nothing as Kofi reached inside his singlet and stroked his nipple. His dick became uncomfortably hard in his jeans, but he not move.
âTake off your shirt,â Kofi said as he pulled his hand back. Samuel lifted his shirt over his head, removing the singlet. Kofi reached forward and unbuttoned Samuelâs jeans. Samuel stopped him and moved Kofiâs hand back to his chest. Kofi held Samuelâs chest in both hands, when without warning, he leaned forward and took his left nipple into his mouth.
âAhhh!â Samuel gasped as Kofi sucked on his nipple. It became hard in his mouth and Samuelâs hands almost instinctively grasped the back of Kofiâs head, pulling him closer. The feeling of Kofiâs lips and tongue on his nipple was intense and he groaned and rolled his eyes back.
Reluctantly, Samuel pulled Kofi from his nipple then stepped back and pulled his jeans down. He stood before Kofi, his fat breast like chest and pot belly exposed. âYou think Iâm okay?â he asked somewhat shyly.
âYouâre beautiful,â Kofi whispered in response, then pulled Samuel back to him, again sucking and nibbling on his fat breast.
As he sucked his nipple, Kofiâs hands roamed up and down Samuelâs back till they reached his very plump ass. He squeezed the cheeks through the thin fabric of his boxer shorts, then shook them. Samuel gasped. His dick grew hard and poked through the front of his boxers, but he did nothing as the strong, muscled farm boy explored his body with his hand.
Before either of them knew it, they were on the bed, with Kofi on top of Samuel, licking and sucking his nipples whilst Samuel tugged at Kofiâs loose basketball shorts and boxers. Once removed, Samuel could feel Kofi hard, thick dick pressing against him, like a log. Without looking, he could tell it was big, bigger probably than any dick he had taken before.
Kofi pulled and licked Samuelâs nipples, eliciting moans from the chubby boy. It had been so long since anyone had had sex with him, but never had any one kissed on and loved on his body as much as Kofi was doing. He was genuinely turned on but Samuelâs fatness, his pot belly, man boobs, thick thighs and rolls of fat.
Kofi turned Samuel over and tugged at his boxers. Samuel helped pull them down. Kofi then parted Samuelâs fat ass cheeks and spat between them. He then licked his ass and began to rim the chubby boy who moaned and tossed and twisted beneath him. Soon, his hole was positively soaked with sweat and saliva, so it easily yielded to Kofiâs long strong fingers as they entered him.
âUgh, ughhh, ahhhh fuck!â Samuel moaned in pleasure as Kofi fingered him. His eyes were closed and he couldnât express the intensity of feeling he had as Kofi massaged his prostate. His own dick was hard beneath him.
A few more awkward moments passed when Kofi spoke up. âYou wanna get something to eat?â
Samuel was surprised at this but before he could answer, Kofi added. âMy roommate has gone out.â This only puzzled Samuel more, but he readily agreed and the two of them walked to get food. Samuel offered to pay for the food, and though Kofi was reluctant to accept, he did. He needed the money.
They collected their food and began walking back towards Kofiâs room.
âWait. Do you drink?â Samuel asked.
âYou wan get something? Is cool,â Kofi responded. He wasnât much of a drinker, though he did indulge, and truthfully, he wanted something to relax him. He felt nervous around Samuel.
Samuel stopped to buy some drinks, then they went back to Kofiâs room where they ate and chatted for a while. As Kofi drank, he became even quieter than usual, just as Samuel became more talkative.
âYou like music?â Kofi asked as he stood. Samuel nodded and took another drink of the beer he had bought. He felt light-headed.
âYeah I do.â
âThe place is warm,â Kofi added as he put some music on to play. He removed his top, exposed his muscled chest. Samuel stared at the sweat dripping down to his shorts, which hung loosely on his hips. The tops of his boxer shorts were exposed and his dick print was obvious beneath the thin fabric.
âYeah its hot,â Samuel added.
âWhy donât you take off your shirt. Here...â Kofi extended his hand for Samuel to hand him his shirt.
âNah, Iâm... Iâm okay.â The truth is that it was very warm, but Samuel was shy to remove his shirt.
âOh, why? Here give it to me. Is too hot to be wearing all this tins. You are even wearing jeans.â
Samuel looked down. He was hot and he did have on jeans, as well as a sharply pressed African print shirt. He was always dressed âwellâ, but it wasnât too comfortable in the hot stuffy room.
âUh, umm, okay,â Samuel said finally, then turned round to unbutton his shirt. He removed it, exposing his singlet. His heavy chest and belly showed more clearly through the sweat soaked singlet. He folded his arms awkwardly.
âEh, why?â Kofi asked as he hung Samuelâs shirt on a nail protruding from the door. âAre you shy?â
âA little, I guess.â
âWhy?â Kofi asked as he took another swig of beer. âYou shy for what?â
âNothing.â
Kofi looked at him with an enigmatic half-smile. He set the bottle on the floor, then leaned back against the wall, his legs splayed across the bed. Samuel sat opposite on a chair. Kofi sat up and leaned forward.
âWhy are you shy?â Kofi asked, peering directly into Samuelâs eyes. He felt his dick begin to grow hard as he looked at the chubby boy seated in front of him.
âI... I mean, nothing, like, my body is not that nice like yours,â he said finally.
âWho told you? Stand up.â Kofiâs low voice was uncharacteristically commanding â uncharacteristic as far as Samuel knew. Heâd only seen the shy, reserved Kofi. He didnât really know the other side of him.
Samuel stood obediently.
âUncross your arms.â Samuel complied and as he did, a broad smile crossed Kofiâs face. âCome here.â
Samuel walked towards Kofi and stood within arms reach. He felt himself shaking and his heart felt as if it would pound out of his chest. Kofi looked at him and spoke.
âYour body is fine. Is beautiful. Donât let nobody tell you is not nice â not even you.â
The next day came and went however, and there was no call from Kofi, nor any message. The next day too, Samuel heard nothing. On the third day Samuel mustered his courage and called, but Kofi didnât pick nor did he return the call. His messages too seemed to go unnoticed, although Samuel could tell that Kofi was reading them and watching his statuses as well.
âWhat do you think is the reason?â Samuel asked Sedem as they sat outside waiting for Sedemâs sugar daddy to pick him up for the weekend.
âProbably you are over thinking or maybe you scared him off,â Sedem replied without looking up. âLook at this. Iâm thinking about doing my hair like this. What do you think?â Sedem showed his phone to Samuel who glanced at it absently.
âIt looks kinda... I donât know. Its up to you.â
âLooks kinda what? Anyway, I like it so I will ask my daddy if he will give me money for that. I think you are over-thinking this your village boy. Probably he is not even into you.â
âProbably not,â Samuel replied then looked off into the distance.
Just then a large black SUV pulled up some distance away. âLooks like your ride is here,â Samuel said nudging Sedem who looked up.
âOh, yes. See you bish.â Sedem gathered his things and sauntered towards the car, opened the door and sat down. The car sped off, leaving Samuel alone with his thoughts.
As the car pulled away, Samuel saw Kofi standing on the opposite side of the street wearing his characteristic basketball shorts, t-shirt, and slides.
Kofi saw him and waved, smiling broadly, then jogged across the street to join Samuel on the bench.
âHey wassap. Is been a while,â Kofi said. âHow have you been?â
Samuel was happy to see Kofi and his happiness overrode the irritation he felt at his chipper tone. It was as if they hadnât made any plan to meet, or that Samuel hadnât tried to contact him all this while. Choosing to ignore all these, he responded.
âIâm fine, please how are you? How are things?â
âEverything cool, yeah. Did you ever go to the swimming? I know you said you want to do that.â
Samuel pressed his lips slightly, inwardly annoyed, âsee this guy. What is he thinking? Who does he think he is?â Outwardly though he answered pleasantly.
âNo, please, I thought, I mean, I was waiting for you.â
Kofi nodded; his brow furrowed.
âYeah, yeah. So, what are you doing right now? Like are you going somewhere?â
Samuel was taken aback at the question but answered anyway. âOh, nothing. Iâm just here not doing anything. Why?â
Kofi fell quiet and looked at his feet for a few minutes without speaking.
âUhm, are you okay?â
âYeah, Iâm... yeah, Iâm okay.â
âAre you sure?â
âOh yah, Iâm okay, yah, hahaha.â Kofiâs laugh was forced and awkward, then he abruptly changed the subject.
âDid you see dat video was going around?â
âWhat video?â
âOh, they caught some guy and was beating him. They said he is gay.â
Samuel pressed his lips and answered flatly, âYah I heard about it but I didnât see it.â
âWhat do you think about it?â Kofi asked.
âAbout what?â
âAbout gays.â
Samuelâs chest tightened, as if his heart were in knots. He didnât know what to say or do and wasnât sure why Kofi was asking these questions. Was it a test?
âHmmm,â he replied. âI mean I donât know why they will be beating people. We all sinners so. I mean, Iâm not saying its right but...â
Kofi interrupted him, somewhat excitedly, âYeah dats what I also told somebody. Not that is right but, they way they was beating him, yeah, is not cool.â
âYeah, thatâs wrong.â
The two lapsed into silence as neither could think of what to say. The atmosphere had suddenly turned very uncomfortable.
âI am so confused. This guy was throwing me signals, at least I think he was.â Samuel sat fidgeting with his nails as he watched Sedem do his skin care routine. âWhere did you get that facial cream? It looks expensive.â
âWhere do you think, bish? Daddy got it for me.â
âI wish you wouldnât call me that.â
âBish please, whatever. You a bish even if you won't admit it." Samuel smiled and shook his head as Sedem continued, "So, if you think heâs giving signals then go for it.â
âI canât do that. Iâm not sure. Anyway if even he is like that, I know he wonât go for somebody like me.â
âAnd why do you say that?â
âOh Sedem donât act like you donât know. The guy is like a god and see me like this.â
âBish donât sell yourself short. You donât know what he likes. Its not every one that likes skinny bitches like me.â As Sedem said this, he placed his hand on his hip and began to cat-walk through the room, prompting Samuel to laugh despite himself.
Just then Sedemâs phone rang. He picked it and answered in a subdued tone. Samuel rolled his eyes as Sedem suddenly began to talk quietly into the phone.
âI thought you said.... oh, okay. No, no Iâm not getting attitude with you. Okay, please Iâm sorry okay. Okay.â
Samuel shook his head and stood up as if to leave, while Sedem furiously signalled him to stay. âWait okay, just a minuteâ he whispered to Samuel, placing his hand over the phone to muffle his voice.
Samuel sat down again and Sedem resumed talking. âWhat? Nobody is here. I mean... its a girl not any guy. Yes. No. Okay I will send it. Okay. I will do it right now. Okay love you too.â The line cute before Sedem could finish his sentence.
âI donât know why you are fooling with that guy,â Samuel said shaking his head.
âYou just donât understand him thatâs all. Heâs trying okay,â Sedem spoke without looking up from the phone.
âII understand. He got you dickmatized is all. How much did he ask for this time?â Sedem pretended not to hear and didnât answer. âHow much Sedem?â
âHuh?â Sedem looked up, having finished the transaction. âWhat did you say?â
âNevermind... this your thug guy, let me keep quiet.â
âYes, why donât you keep quiet. We are supposed to be solving your problems, not mine, and I don't have any problem. Why donât you just ask him if heâs interested? You can just pretend you were joking if he gets offended.â
Samuel shook his head again. âI donât know what to do. Weâre supposed to go swimming tomorrow.â The two friends sat and continued talking into the night while on the other side of campus Kofi slept soundly.
âIs okay, she is a nice girl but the pressure is too much, yeah. So wha happened to your girl?â
âI told you I donât have one.â
âNah, you said is complicated, buh datâs cool donât worry. Thatâs a nice dress.â Kofi reached out and touched the shirt Samuel wore. âThe cloth is nice.â
âUhmm, thank you please.â
âYou always dressing nice.â
âReally? You think so? But how do you know?â
âI seen you in class and out of class, yeah. You dress like fine boy, paaa. Das why I ask if you get girl because I see you be fine boy and girls too they like that, yeah. Not broke boys like me, hahahahaha.â
Kofiâs smile was broad and his laughter infectious. Samuel found himself laughing as well, though he wasnât sure why â what Kofi said wasnât especially funny.
âWell, I donât have any girl so, I mean thank you though. Mostly, they like to go for the sports guys and those handsome guys, not my type.â
âWha type is that?â
âI mean, um, like...â
âBuh you get money, dats what they like, or?â
âI donât have money ooo. It is my parents who have money nau, not me. I be broke boy pass.â
Kofi threw his head back laughing at Samuelâs diction.
âMassa, stay with your good English. Donât venture.â
âOh, allow me. But seriously, most of these girls they want the handsome guys. If even the guy has money, they still go for the good-looking guys. I have this one friend...â
Samuel hesitated, as he was thinking about how to talk about his girly gay friend Sedem, then quickly recovered.
âI have a friend, she has a sugar daddy who does everything for her, but this girl, she is always going to see some thug guy from the ghetto spending all his money... her money on the guy. That is how they are, you see. And Iâm not fine boy so I will just stay in my corner.â
Kofi looked intently at Samuel, with a hint of a smile. He suddenly became conscious of how cute Samuel looked to him, especially his man-boobs that were apparent even beneath the loose shirt he wore.
âBuh who told you you not fine?â he said finally, then continued before Samuel could respond. âAnyway, is late. I wanna sleep.â
âOkay, yeah, its late,â Samuel replied as he stood. He twisted his body to stretch himself then turned around to get a book heâd left on another table.
Kofi watched as he walked away. Samuel's fat booty filled out the trousers he wore and jiggled as he walked. Kofi swallowed again and quickly averted his gaze as soon as Samuel had turned around.
âOkay, so tomorrow?â
âWhat is happening tomorrow? Samuel asked.
âOh, ah...â Kofi replied. âYou said you wanna swim so I was saying tomorrow I can go with you or...?â
âOh, yeah, okay... that will be okay.â
âIs it okay, or?â
âYeah, its fine.â
They walked out together then parted ways when they got outside. Kofi went straight back to his room where he promptly slept off, with images of Samuelâs fat jiggling ass in his mind. Samuel on the other hand, nearly ran back to Sedemâs room to report everything that had happened. It seemed that Kofi was sending him signals, but he couldnât be sure. He was totally confused.
Kofi hadnât thought anything at all about how he dressed; he wore what he almost always wore: basketball shorts, a sleeveless t-shirt, and slides.
âWassup, how is the shark?â Kofi smiled in greeting. Samuel smiled despite himself and returned Kofiâs high-five. Kofiâs large hand and long fingers were much bigger than Samuelâs own.
âOh, Iâm fine. Please are you okay?â Samuel asked shyly.
âSure, Iâm good.â
Samuel took the lead to show Kofi to where they would study together. It was rather a secluded place with only three other people â a guy and a girl who were busy flirting with each other, and another guy who was asleep with his head down on the papers in front of him, his mouth open and drooling. The couple soon left, leaving Kofi and Samuel alone with their silent drooling companion.
The session went well; despite his modesty, Samuel was quite good, and it was helpful for Kofi too although he was smarter than Samuel had assumed based on his background. Then again, he would have to be very sharp to have made it to university coming from the background he did.
On the contrary, Samuel had grown up very privileged â attending the best schools, having private tutors, and extra classes was normal for him.
The conversation began focused on their studies, but soon veered off into other things. Kofi had only to ask a question and Samuel would talk and talk about himself and his background, whilst Kofi listened. More than once, he stopped himself and apologized for talking so much, only for Kofi to smile and tell him to continue.
Before he knew it, Samuel had told Kofi about his father, who had some big job working for a multi-national, and his mother who was a medical doctor who had travelled outside for specialist training, and how they had a big mansion, and how he didnât get along with his siblings. âI talk too much,â Samuel thought to himself, but he didnât stop talking.
Kofi liked listening to him. His refined, clipped English, and polished mannerisms somehow appealed to Kofi who had neither good English nor any refinement.
Samuel, on the other hand, was grateful for the chance to talk. He was used to people tuning out when he rambled on. Kofi seemed to hang on his words, hardly interrupting.
Before they knew it, the time had grown quite late â their sleeping companion had roused himself and left the room, leaving them alone. Kofi leaned back in his chair stretching his arms. Samuel watched, looking at his armpits which turned him on.
âDamnâ he said to himself.
âWhat?â Kofi asked. Samuelâs eyes grew wide; he hadnât realised he had spoken aloud.
âOh, I said, uhm damn, yeah... damn its late.â
Kofi smiled at him enigmatically. He knew thatâs not what Samuel meant, but he decided against pursuing it.
âOkay, so... tell me. You get shoddy or nah?â
âCome again?â
âYou get shoddy? I mean, do you have a girlfriend?â
Samuel pursed his lips together and swallowed. âNot really.â
âNot really? Wha does that mean? You get or you no get? You are saying not really.â
âWell, its complicated, but I will say, uhmm...I do not.â Samuel was hesitant in his answer and guarded. Kofi watched him closely then smiled again, revealing his beautiful gap-toothed smile.
âI hear. If you get is no problem, Thatâs between you. It have nothing to do with us.â
âYeah, it doesnât,â Samuel replied then frowned. What did he mean by that ânothing to do with usâ? Was he hinting at something.
Kofi watched him carefully, then added. âI get a girl too, or I should say I get baby momma. She dey my hometown.â
âOh, really is that so? That is nice.â Samuel was relieved that the attention was off him, at least for a little while.
A few days passed before Samuel and Kofi met again; Kofi had approached Samuel after class and they agreed to meet in one of the rooms at ________ to learn together. It was a quiet place not many people seemed to know about, including Kofi â who didnât where much of anything was on campus. Samuel had suggested it, and Kofi agreed to meet him in front of the Central Cafeteria.
It was getting late when Kofi called.
âHello? Yes, please? Yes Iâm coming there. Have you reached? No. Okay, but Iâm not far so when you come just call me and I will meet you there okay?â
Samuel cut the line and exhaled. âDo you think I look okay?â he asked standing back so that his friend Sedem could see him.
âYou look fine but why are you dressed like youâre going to some official meeting? And those shoes, ugh!â
âI donât â I mean its just a shirt and trou, or?â Samuel looked again at Sedem who rolled his eyes and pressed his lips.
âHmph, if you say so, but you look goofy like youâre going to work at a bank or something.â
Sedem was one of the few people on campus that knew about Samuelâs sexuality, even though Samuel tried to hide it. Theyâd met originally on the yellow app and had become chat buddies, then later when Samuel finally agreed to share his pic, Sedem realized they were both on campus and lived close to each other.
Samuel thought Sedem was too âflamboyantâ, but Sedem seemed not to care what Samuel or anyone else thought of him.
âMy sugar daddy likes me like that so fuck the rest of yâall,â is what Sedem had told him.
Sedemâs sugar daddy was an older married man who regularly took Sedem for weekend trips and holidays. Heâd always return with bags full of clothes and shoes, and kept his mobile money wallet full. According to Sedem the old man had only fucked him once, preferring blow jobs and hand jobs from the feminine young man.
âHeâs not my boyfriend though; heâs my daddy, so it doesnât matter,â Sedem had answered when Samuel questioned him about this.
It was true. Sedem was madly in love with a thuggish unemployed smoker from the ghetto who Sedem was always spending money on for one reason or another â including paying the rent on the apartment he shared with his girlfriend. Most of the money his sugar daddy spent on him, Sedem spent on this unnamed thug guy who seemed not to regard him at all.
âI love him though,â had been his response when Samuel confronted him about this. After that Samuel dropped the matter. You don't advise people in love.
In any case, Sedemâs remarks made Samuel untuck his shirt and change his clothes once again. Even though it was just a study session, Samuel wanted to look nice and to smell nice. He changed dress twice more before Sedem gave him the nod and he dashed out to meet Kofi.
With that Kofi escorted him to the door and closed it. He turned back into the room and tugged at his dick, then stopped. He didnât want to admit to himself that seeing Samuelâs chubby body and fat ass, had reminded him of fat Johnny and that was the reason he suddenly decided to go swimming. He wanted to cool off and put this 'gay thing' out of his mind.
Once in the corridor, Samuel walked rapidly away from Kofiâs room till he reached the courtyard. He leaned against a wall and exhaled heavily. He fanned himself with the remaining flyers. "Damn," he said aloud to no one in particular. "Damn."
