*Why was Facebook, Insta, Whatsapp's server down?* They pushed some configuration changes on peering routers and they lost remote access. To resolve the issue they had to connect routers and servers physically and for that they had to send the team in Data center and do all the rollback manually. They pushed changes via automation but they didn't planned for any rollback. *So why did they take so long to fix servers?* There was bug in configuration and they had to revert it but they lost the remote access as well and due to covid situation they had limited resources at data centers. Also the team available at data center didn't knew how to resolve the issue so other team was guiding them and due to all this mess it took so much time to bring service back.
