Mayor Lori Lightfoot predictably calls on residents to remain “peaceful” in the face of repeated execution of our city’s Latinx youth and suggests that reforms to traffic stops and foot chases could prevent further tragedies. Reform serves only to extend the existence of police, assert their legitimacy, extend their reach into public and private life, and funnel more resources into police departments.
