Chapter 3. Polyphase AC circuits 1. Draw the waveform, phasor diagram and write the mathematical equation of three phase system. 2. State any four advantages of three phase system over single phase system. 3. What is line voltage and phase voltage ? Draw star connected 3-phase supply system and mark line voltage and phase voltage and state the voltage and current relation.. 4. Draw the phasor diagram of star connected supply system and drive the voltage relation. 5. Draw the phasor diagram of delta connected supply system and drive the current relation. 6. Draw delta connected 3-phase supply system and mark line voltage and phase voltage. State the voltage relation and current relation for delta connection. 7. A balanced delta connected load supplied with 440v, 50Hz, three phase a.c. supply has R = 10 and L = 0.6 mH in its each arm. Calculate line and phase currents, active power. 8. A balanced star connected load supplied with 400v, 50Hz, three phase a.c. supply has R = 20 ohm in its each arm. Calculate line and phase currents, active power 9. Three identical coils each having a resistance of 15 ohm and an inductance of 0.03 H are in delta across 400 V, 50 Hz supply. Determine (i) impedance per phase (ii) phase current (iii) line current (iv) power consumed. 10. Three impedances each of 3 ohm resistance and 4 ohm inductive reactance in series are connected in star across 3-phase, 400 V, 50 Hz, AC supply. Determine: (i) Phase current (ii) Line current (iii) Power factor (iv) Total power.
