From a reader: ‘My mom’s prepared a Japanese side dish with bitter melon for as long as I can remember. It’s basically a sauté. She slices the bitter melon in crescent moon shapes and then sautés the slices in a tablespoon of sesame oil for about 2-3 minutes in a wok and then adds a bit of broth, soy sauce and bonito flakes at the end.
