Robina Daguno Navato (Bhing) has been a dedicated domestic worker in Singapore since 1995, also supporting vulnerable peers during her tenure. Tragically, on 2 June 2023, Bhing was diagnosed with Stage 3 Cervical Cancer, mirroring past diagnoses in her family which consumed most of her earnings. With her work permit revoked and returned to the Philippines, Bhing, now without savings, faces immense challenges. As many of us are caregivers, we can deeply empathize with Bhing's situation. If you can offer some help, no matter the amount, please donate or read more about the situation via the link below: https://www.simplygiving.com/appeal/help-bhing-with-her-cancer-treatment Thank you! Did you know that colorectal cancer is the top diagnosed cancer in Singapore? The FIT50 programme was launched in 2014 in conjunction with Singapore Cancer Society’s 50th anniversary celebrations. FIT50 programme aims to encourage those entering their silver years to stay “fit” and adopt regular health screening for the three commonly diagnosed cancers affecting Singaporeans. Singapore Cancer Society will be providing cancer screening services at no charge to Singapore Citizens who are turning 50 years old in 2022 and due for screening. This is to encourage them to stay fit, healthy and cancer-free. The fully-sponsored cancer screening services will include HPV test, Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) and the mammogram screening. Singapore Cancer Society will pay for remaining charges after prevailing government subsidies for screening tests, so that eligible participants do not pay any amount for it. If you are 50 years old this year, get screened at no cost. http://str.sg/iTa9

- In Singapore, age-specific incidence rate of cancer has risen more rapidly among the younger age groups aged below 40 years, compared to the older age groups - Young cancer survivors here say they it is not easy to find emotional support among friends and family while support groups tend to be for older patients - Costs for treatment, medication and hospitalisation can also be a heavy burden on young patients who do not have as much savings as their older counterparts - Some young survivors have started their own support groups for fellow young patients and documented their battles with cancer in hopes of educating, inspiring others - Doctors say that cancer should not be perceived as an old person’s disease and point to a correlation between a positive psychological mindset and better overall survival chances Read more: https://www.todayonline.com/big-read/big-read-short-what-support-do-young-adults-cancer-need-2256101?cid=tdy+tg_tg-sunday_social-msging-free_09102018_today

A collaboration between Psychosocial Initiative (https://www.psychosocial-initiative.com/index.html) and SG Assist, (https://www.sgassist.com/) this initiative aims to equip volunteers and caregivers with the knowledge and skills to help someone who is in emotional anguish and anxiety. PFA is a technique based on the concept of human resilience. Its goal is to restore emotional balance and prevent the development of further psychological scar. This is done by attending to the emotional crisis and reducing its distress reactions. It is described by mental health experts as "acute intervention of choice". Your willingness to learn psychological first aid has the power to positively impact the lives of those who are struggling with trauma and crisis. By equipping yourself with these skills, you can be a source of comfort and support to those who need it most, and help them on their journey towards healing and resilience. Your efforts can make a real difference in the world. Upcoming Session: 2nd Sept 2023 (Sat) Register at: https://forms.gle/YaAHmytVqmhxBn9EA
