There are two ways of refraining from immoral behavior. The first is to refrain from unrighteousness through the exercise of will-power. The second way is to abstain from sin due to fear of God. People who have the ability to abstain from sinning merely by will-power are very few. The majority of people desist from doing wrong due to the fear of punishment. For example, it is observed on highways that the moment a police car is spotted, people immediately slow down to the permissible speed limit, but when they perceive there is no danger of being caught, they do not hesitate in exceeding the speed limit. Thus, if we believe in God, out of fear of him we will refrain from immoral behavior. Instead, if we do not believe in God, all his laws will still be applicable to us, and we will suffer the consequences of wrong-behavior. Those with demoniac natures do not wish to accept this imposition of authority and regulation of behavior that is a necessary corollary of belief in God. Instead, they prefer to subscribe to the view that there is no God and the world has no basis for moral order. They propagate ideas such as the “Big Bang Theory,” which postulates that the world was created by an accidental explosion that took place at time zero of creation, and thus there is no God who sustains the world. Such theories permit them to engage in sensual gratification without scruples or fear of consequences. Amongst the various forms of sensual gratification, sexual indulgence is the most intense. This is because the material realm is like a distorted reflection of the spiritual realm. In the spiritual realm, divine love is the basis of the activities of the liberated souls and their interactions with God. In the material realm, its distorted reflection, lust, dominates the consciousness of materially conditioned souls, particularly those under the mode of passion. Thus, the demoniac-minded see engagement in lustful activities as the purpose of human life *Why is lust (kāma) in the material realm described as leading to intense sensual gratification?* 🔴 Because it is the primary duty (dharma) assigned to materially conditioned souls 🟢 Because it is a distorted reflection of divine love (prema) in the spiritual realm 🔵 Because it completely frees the mind from physical stress and worry 🟡 Because it is the only way to attain mental peace without spiritual practice

All souls carry their natures with them from past lives. Accordingly, those cultivated virtuous qualities and performed meritorious deeds in the past lives are the ones who are born with divine natures, while those who indulged in sin and defiled their minds in previous lives carry the same tendencies into the present one. They are cruel and harsh, and devoid of sensitivity for others’ sufferings in their interactions with them. Chapter 15 of the Bhagavad Gita explains the nature of the material world and how to transcend it to attain God. Shree Krishna compares material existence to an upside-down aśhvatth tree, whose roots are above because its ultimate source is God. Its branches represent the material world, nourished by the three gunas, while embodied souls continue wandering through it from lifetime to lifetime. Because of ignorance and attachment, they remain bound to this endless cycle. To attain the Supreme Lord, Krishna teaches that one must *cut this tree with the axe of detachment*, turn away from worldly attachment, seek its divine source, and surrender to God. Such a soul reaches His eternal Abode and does not return to material existence. Shree Krishna further explains that every soul is an eternal fragment of God, but while conditioned by material nature, it struggles with the five senses and the mind. *At death, the soul carries the mind and senses to another body.* The spiritually ignorant cannot perceive this process, but those whose minds are purified by knowledge can understand it. God's presence can likewise be recognized throughout creation by developing spiritual vision and perceiving His glories everywhere. Finally, Krishna distinguishes three categories: kshar, the perishable beings of the material world; akshar, the liberated beings beyond material bondage; and Purushottam, the Supreme Divine Personality who transcends both and is the source, sustainer, and regulator of everything. The central message of Chapter 15 is: detach the mind from the temporary material world, recognize our eternal relationship with God, and surrender to Purushottam Lord through exclusive devotion.🙏
