“… having their conscience seared with a hot iron;” 1 Timothy 4:2 KJV Paul is writing to Timothy here and warning him about those that will depart and cave to false doctrines and seducing ways. We most often hear this verse quoted when referencing reprobates, but the truth of the matter is that this verse is talking about those who were in the faith but backslid or got hooked up to evil doctrines. Once saved always saved. The point is, we too can have a seared conscience toward certain things and being callous to things isn’t just an attribute of reprobates alone. Remember when you first got saved? First started getting involved in church? First got introduced to soulwinning? You were so excited. Every person you saw, you would give them a gospel tract. You would plead with folks to get saved and serve God. But…as time progresses, you witness cold hearts, believers shirking their responsibilities and if we aren’t careful, we become cold toward things we used to be soft for. Don’t get a seared conscious.

Just because someone is saved, doesn’t mean they have good doctrine. Check everything with Scripture. Read your Bible! “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.” 2 Peter 2:1 KJV
