✅Thiomargarita magnifica Bacteria
🅾️Context : Scientists have discovered a giant white bacterium named “Thiomargarita magnifica Bacteria” on rotting leaves in saline waters of red mangrove swamp in Guadeloupe in Lesser Antilles.
🅾️What is so peculiar?- Previously discovered giant bacteria are made of hundreds of thousands of cells. But Thiomargarita Magnifica is composed of single bacterial cell( This fact is imp- read basics of cell biology- difference between plant and animal cells). It is roughly equal to the size of a human eyelash.
🅾️It is the largest bacteria, discovered so far. It is around 5,000 times larger than most bacteria.
🅾️It has been named Thiomargarita Magnifica, because of its size and the presence of pearl-like beads of sulphur inside the cell.

🅾️What?- virtual replica of the physical world- uses sensors on any physical object - collects data from their movement - useful in R&D- for solving water crisis- for example
🅾️Context : used in Geospatial Tech- Note that the word 'geospatial' refers not to one single technology, but a collection of technologies- which includes this digital twins also.
🅾️How Digital twin tech helps water crisis?- Digital Twins integrate the digital representation of physical assets, like physical systems of pipes, pumps, valves, and tanks- this will be combined with historical data sets such as weather records and real time dynamic interactions, which allow them to be used for multiple analyses- to put in simple words- you design a model for one set of climate parameters and it fails- its a cost failure too- this tech reduces that possibility

✅Silver Antimony Telluride
🅾️What?- a new material that can help in tapping waste heat produced by all kinds of domestic and industrial appliances and use it
🅾️Scientific principle used - thermo-electric effect- direct conversion of temperature differences to electric voltage- two different metals joined together, and by mechanically maintaining two different temperatures at the ends
🅾️Issue : most materials that conduct electricity, also happen to be good conductors of heat- so temperature difference cant be held between the two ends of the material for very long.
🅾️Till now lead was used for this effect- but its very polluting in nature- but Silver Antimony Telluride because of crystalline solid structure is good conductor of electricity but a bad conductor of heat, a property important for Thermo-electric effect.It is a nanomaterial compound made from Silver, Antimony and Tellurium.
🅾️Application example : heat from the laptop can be used to charge a mobile phone.

✅LiDAR vs RADAR
🅾️The basic purpose of LiDAR and RADAR is the same – detecting the presence and volume of distant objects
🅾️Difference?- Their wavelength.
🅾️LIDAR : point a small infrared laser beam at a surface and measure the time it takes for the laser to return to its source. Then, a specific software makes a 3D image that reproduces the shape around the LiDAR with a precise position in space
🅾️RADAR : it uses radio waves instead of laser or LED light. It transmits radio waves from a rotating or fixed antenna and measure the time of flight of the reflected signal
🅾️LiDAR is a compact solution that enables a high level of accuracy for 3D mapping. This is why LiDAR is used for laser altimetry and contour mapping. Radar, on the other hand, is used for aircraft anti-collision systems, air traffic control or radar astronomy.
