✅Edge computing vs IOT
🅾️It is a distributed computing paradigm that brings computation and data storage closer to the sources of data. This is expected to improve response times and save bandwidth. "A common misconception is that edge and IoT are synonymous.
🅾️Edge computing can provide enhanced security and more privacy protections because it keeps data close to the edge and thus out of centralized servers. Edge devices are still vulnerable to being hacked, particularly if they're not adequately protected.

✅Monkeypox
🅾️What?- a viral zoonotic disease- Was endemic to Nigeria
🅾️Hosts- monkeys and apes, a variety of rodents (including rats, mice, squirrels and prairie dogs) and rabbits
🅾️History of Outbreaks : 1958, in monkeys in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and in humans in 1970, 2017, Nigeria experienced the largest documented outbreak
🅾️Human-to-human transmission can result from close contact with infected respiratory tract secretions- Hence a cause of concern.
⚠️Transmission can also occur by inoculation or via the placenta (congenital monkeypox).
🅾️Treatment and Vaccine: no specific treatment or vaccine available-however , the anti-smallpox vaccine was shown to be 85% effective in preventing Monkeypox.

✅Sodium-Ion Battery
🅾️Rechargeable batteries which require sodium ion movement between electrodes during the charging and discharging of the battery, the cathode for these batteries is manufactured from sodium.
🅾️Issues with Lithium-Ion battery : Unsustainable mining practices, It releases harmful chemicals which damage the rivers and its ecosystem. Non reusable as its recycling process is very expensive
🅾️Benefits : cheaper to produce as there is abundance of the raw materials required to make them-energy dense, non-flammable, and operate well in colder temperatures-
⚠️Can store more energy per unit weight, this could make them well-suited for larger applications such as electric vehicles.
🔶Might soon be a viable alternative to lithium-based ones as US scientists recently found that sodium-sulfur battery technology can be employed for grid-level energy storage systems.

➡️The missions will help strengthen the government’s climate response at the grassroots of Tamilnadu dists- headed by the Collectors as Mission Directors.
➡️The missions will create strong policy support across all sectors of governance, devise strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and bench-mark industries to move towards green manufacturing.
➡️Strategies= eco-friendly technologies, such as solar and wind energy technologies, biodegradable packaging and e-vehicles.

✅Marburg virus Disease
➡️Context : 2 suspected cases of Marburg virus disease-(It is an infectious haemorrhagic fever). were reported in Ghana. Marburg virus Disease is similar to Ebola.
➡️The virus is transmitted to people via fruit bats. People to people transmission also takes place, if the uninfected person comes in direct contact with bodily fluids of infected person or surfaces. Marburg virus has an incubation period of 2-21 days.
⚠️This disease is potentially very harmful and deadly. Fatality rates in previous outbreaks have ranged from 24% to 88%.
🅾️Common symptoms of Marburg virus disease include- high fever, severe malaise, severe headache, Muscle aches and pains.
📍No treatment or vaccine has been developed for Marburg, yet. Patients are treated through rehydration with oral or intravenous fluids.

✅Thiomargarita magnifica Bacteria
🅾️Context : Scientists have discovered a giant white bacterium named “Thiomargarita magnifica Bacteria” on rotting leaves in saline waters of red mangrove swamp in Guadeloupe in Lesser Antilles.
🅾️What is so peculiar?- Previously discovered giant bacteria are made of hundreds of thousands of cells. But Thiomargarita Magnifica is composed of single bacterial cell( This fact is imp- read basics of cell biology- difference between plant and animal cells). It is roughly equal to the size of a human eyelash.
🅾️It is the largest bacteria, discovered so far. It is around 5,000 times larger than most bacteria.
🅾️It has been named Thiomargarita Magnifica, because of its size and the presence of pearl-like beads of sulphur inside the cell.

🛑Hermit is a commercial spyware and it is known to be used by governments with victims in northern Syria, Kazakhstan and Italy.
🛑As per the report, Hermit Android app is distributed through text message. The message looks like coming from a legitimate source. Malware can impersonate other apps developed by telecom companies and manufacturers such as Oppo and Samsung, which tricks the users to download it.
🛑Hermit Android malware is modular because it allows the spyware to download additional components which are required by malware
🛑Google has notified the affected Android users and has also updated its Play Protect, which is a built-in app security scanner in Android. It will block the app from running. It has also killed firebase account of spyware, which was used to communicate with its servers. Apple has also removed all known “accounts and certificates” related to spyware campaign.

✅Drug Resistant Typhoid
🅾️What?- Typhoid is an infection caused by the bacterium Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi (aka Salmonella Typhi) carried only by humans =no other animal carrier has been found.
🅾️Typhoid fever is transmitted by the faecal-oral route, through ingestion of contaminated food or water
🅾️Without treatment, about one person in 20 who recovers from typhoid becomes a ‘carrier’
🅾️typhoid vaccine is available as an oral medication or a one-off injection(50–80% effective)
🅾️Typhoid fever requires prompt treatment with antibiotics- now threatened by the emergence of drug resistant strains.
🅾️Which antibiotics are used? - Antibiotics ampicillin, chloramphenicol, and trimethoprim/ sulfamethoxazole.

🅾️What?- virtual replica of the physical world- uses sensors on any physical object - collects data from their movement - useful in R&D- for solving water crisis- for example
🅾️Context : used in Geospatial Tech- Note that the word 'geospatial' refers not to one single technology, but a collection of technologies- which includes this digital twins also.
🅾️How Digital twin tech helps water crisis?- Digital Twins integrate the digital representation of physical assets, like physical systems of pipes, pumps, valves, and tanks- this will be combined with historical data sets such as weather records and real time dynamic interactions, which allow them to be used for multiple analyses- to put in simple words- you design a model for one set of climate parameters and it fails- its a cost failure too- this tech reduces that possibility

🅾️What?- a clay-based natural refrigerator-to store fruits, vegetables, and milk, and cooling water=Environment friendly technology-invented by Shri Mansukh Bhai Prajapati of Gujarat.
🅾️National Standards Body “Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)” recently developed an Indian Standard for “non-electric cooling cabinet made of clay or “Mitticool refrigerator”. The developed standard is “IS 17693: 2022” ( No need to remember the no.)- THINK- WHY do we need BIS standards?
🅾️Positive impact- promoting sustainable consumption, empowering indigenous community- reviving the pottery culture, tradition, and heritage
🅾️In 2017, This was displayed in association with National Innovation Foundation (NIF), that supports grassroot innovations developed by individuals and local communities.

✅India’s First Display Fabrication Unit
🅾️What?- India’s first display fabrication unit will be setup in Hyderabad.
🅾️Importance : will put India on a global map, along with countries like USA, China, and Japan. Government is confident that having a Display FAB in Telangana will be a major boost for thriving Electronics and IT ecosystem and its ancillaries in the state.
🅾️Semiconductor Mission- under the aegis of Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY).
🅾️A display fabrication plant manufactures the screens through a complex method, which includes sandwiching pieces of glass with transistor cells and use of metal alloys and silicon. This requires a minimum investment of over $2 billion. Such plants assemble the glass with other components required to power the screen.

✅What is eVTOL?
🛑EVTOL aircraft is one that uses electric power to hover, take off, and land vertically.
🛑Most eVTOLs also use what is called as distributed electric propulsion technology which means integrating a complex propulsion system with the airframe.
