Every conductive or semi-conductive object exhibits resonance when exposed to energy and frequencies emitting pulses towards it. The object's size determines the wavelength that resonates with it the most. Antennas that are half or a quarter of the wavelength size resonate exceptionally well with the full wavelength.
For instance, consider a 10 ft wave of RF energy, which corresponds to approximately 98 MHz, the frequency of many FM radio stations. Half of that wavelength is 5 ft, meaning any conductive object around that length will resonate with that frequency. Similarly, objects measuring 2.5 ft in length, a quarter of the full wavelength, will also resonate well. In fact, many antennas can resonate effectively down to 1/16 of the full wavelength.
