Attiya Zehra from Budgam Scores 99.84 percentile in JEE, Sets Record for Kashmiri Girls Budgam, April 19: In a historic achievement, Attiya Zehra, a 20-year-old from Main Town Budgam, has become the first female student from Kashmir to secure an impressive 99.84 percentile in the JEE Main 2025 exam. She is the youngest daughter of Ghulam Hassan Khanday, a Physical Education Teacher and Incharge Activity Officer at the District Youth Services and Sports Office, Budgam. Attiya’s journey from an “average” student to one of the top scorers is a testament to perseverance and self-belief. She scored modestly in her 10th and 12th grades and had secured 84.10 percentile in her previous JEE attempt. But instead of giving up, she doubled down on her efforts. “There are always opportunities, even if you can’t make it on the first attempt—whether in JEE or any other field. Stay consistent and give your best; you will make it,” Attiya said, reflecting on her journey. She credits her success to a disciplined approach and the guidance of her mentors at Coching Institute and her elementary school teachers. She drastically reduced distractions, especially screen time, and adopted a focused study routine. “From an average student to a JEE scorer, it’s all about being focused. Read without tension; even if you study for just 2 to 4 hours a day, make them count. Use digital resources wisely instead of wasting time scrolling,” she advised future aspirants. The moment she saw her result was nothing short of surreal, she recalls. “While checking the answer keys, I estimated around 98 percentile. I was confident and even told my mother. But when I saw it was 99.84, I couldn’t sleep the whole night. My entire family was overjoyed,” she said. Attiya’s success is not just personal—it’s an inspiration for all Kashmiri girls in STEM. In a field historically dominated by males, engineering aspirants from the Valley now have a new role model. With her eyes now set on JEE Advanced, Attiya dreams of securing a seat at IIT Bombay, one of India’s premier engineering institutes. “Be consistent. Don’t be afraid of failure. You’ll make it—just keep going with dedication,” she advises other aspirants. Source: Asian News Hub
