​​يوجد نوع اخر من المقاومات المتغيرة حيث تكون المادة موضوعة على شكل مستقيم وتعمل بنفس المبدا تماما كما في الدورانية.

​​البنية الداخلية للمقاومة المتغيرة، حيث تتكون من مادة ذات مقاومة موضوعة على شكل قوس دائري و تتحرك عليها زلاقة من مادة ناقلة، وبسبب حركة المقبض تتحرك الزلاقة و تسبب تغير نقطة التماس مع المادة المقاومة مما يؤدي لتغير طول المادة المقاومة و بالتالي زيادة او نقصان مقاومتها.
