Early forced marriage can have devastating consequences. A girl may be separated from her friends and education, isolated from the world around her, and placed in responsibilities she is emotionally and physically unprepared to handle. Some face domestic violence, pressure to have children, and a loss of independence. The fear and loneliness can be overwhelming, especially when they have little ability to refuse the marriage or seek help. Behind every forced marriage is a young person whose dreams and choices matter. Afghan girls deserve the right to decide when and whom they marry, to receive an education, and to live without fear of being forced into a life they did not choose. Childhood should be a time for learning and hope—not a period in which a girl is forced to become someone else's wife. #womensright #countriesirl
