“Damaging railroads to any significant extent does take either a good deal of time and labor or an adequate supply of explosives. However, when demolition supplies are available, track is a far juicer target than all but the most important highways. Roads can still be used even when they are in pretty bad shape [.....] Railroads are far less elastic. Either they work moderately well or they break down completely.
