Father, Thank You for this sobering reminder that many will claim Your Name and do works in Your Name, yet never truly know You because they refuse to submit to Your authority and keep Your commandments.
LORD, use this message to awaken those who have only a form of godliness. Expose self-deception. Draw many to genuine repentance and wholehearted obedience. Help Your true children to walk in love by keeping Your Word, and to turn away from those who deny Your power in their lives in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

| 2 | A Form of Godliness
What does it mean when the Word of God says that many of those who say they believe in God and belong to the LORD have only — “a form of godliness”?
Jesus’ Words immediately come to mind — “Many will say to Me in that day, LORD, LORD, have we not prophesied in Thy Name? and in Thy Name have cast out devils? and in Thy Name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:22-23)
I believe that having only a form of godliness means that one wants all the benefits the LORD promises to provide His children — without any obligation from themselves to conform to His Word.
They use His Name for their own benefit, but continue to ignore His Word — walking instead in the desires of their own flesh.
Jesus goes on to speak about that in that same passage when He says, “Every one that heareth these sayings of Mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:26-27)
The one sign we are told by Jesus that will show if a person truly loves the LORD is this, “If ye love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14:15)
We’re told that a person with only “a form of godliness” will deny the “power” of God. We are not to walk with such people, but we’re told — “from such turn away.”
“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” (2 Timothy 3:5)
As I prayed this morning and thought about these Words, I believe the Holy Spirit showed me what that means.
When one denies the “power of God,” they are denying His right and authority to rule over their lives. They want all His benefits, and an escape from eternal damnation in hell, but with no strings attached.
Their refusal to submit to His “power” in their lives is a sure sign that they don’t really love Him.
Again, Jesus’ Words address this clearly and without ambiguity — “If a man abide not in Me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love. Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” (John 15:6,10,14)
“And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth His Word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him. He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.” (1 John 2:3-6)
Beloved, we are in the days that are spoken about in Paul’s letter to Timothy. Words inspired by the Holy Spirit. Words not only for him, but for us as well.
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5,13-17) | 64 |
| 3 | It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.” (Lamentations 3:19-26)
Father, Thank You for the reminder from Your Word that we are not meant to live under the weight of our past. Thank You that in Jesus our slate is wiped clean, our sins are cast into the depths of the sea, and we are called to press forward toward the prize of the high calling in Jesus.
LORD, use this message to bring freedom to those who are burdened by regret. Help them to forget those things which are behind and to reach forth unto those things which are before.
Strengthen them to run with patience the race set before them, looking unto Jesus — the Author and Finisher of their faith.
For those still carrying the grief of things they could not control, comfort them with the truth that Your mercies are new every morning and that Your compassions never fail.
Teach us all to hope in You and to wait quietly for Your salvation. We thank You that the past is covered by the blood of Jesus, and that the future is held securely in Your faithful hands. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

| 4 | No Regrets?
Can any one of us honestly look back at our lives and say, “I have no regrets”?
I know for myself personally there are many things I tell myself I would change if I had the chance. But would I really — without the knowledge I have now?
There are many things we had no control over and we couldn’t change these things, even though we wish we could. We could each list many such things that happened in our lives, and thinking about these things only brings grief of heart and even despair.
What does God’s Word tell us about our past? More importantly — what does it tell us about our future?
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)
Beloved, Paul could have dwelt on what he’d done before — persecuting Christians, and leading them to their death, but he didn’t.
He knew that in Christ, he had a new life. He was a new person, and he said, he would “forget what lies behind.”
He could have dwelt on his sin but instead he reminded us that no matter who we have been — we are cleansed of our sins in Christ.
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such WERE some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the Name of the LORD Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ESV)
Again, there are probably many things we could list that we WERE — but when we are born again our slate is wiped clean. All our sins are thrown into the sea. Corrie ten Boom said, a sign is put at the edge of the sea that says, “no fishing!”
“He will turn again, He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” (Micah 7:19)
David said it this way, “For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:11-12)
We are told to remember the things God has done in our lives, and in the lives of others. He had the Israelites set up stones to remember His great mercies on their behalf.
“That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones? Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.” (Joshua 4:6-7)
Beloved, our lives are not meant to be lived in regret. We are told “press forward” and to “look ahead to the joy set before us.”
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
What has happened is our past, it can’t be changed, can it? But what lies ahead is a future that can be lived with hope and joy. Yes, there will still be things we can’t control, but we must trust those into our Savior’s hands.
Let’s close with the Words of Jeremiah. He speaks here of both his regret and his hope in the future because of the mercy and faithfulness of the LORD.
“Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me. This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. | 56 |
| 5 | Come Home
Our hearts long to be reunited with those we love whom we are separated or estranged from.
The separation is painful to endure, even knowing its necessity.
For every wandering child of God — every prodigal in their own “far country” — let us continue to pray: “Father, draw them home to You and to their family that loves them. May the circumstances in their lives cause them to ‘come to their senses.’ Give them a longing to come home.”
Beloved, my heart is heavy, my eyes fill with tears watching from a distance for my own prodigal loved one. I know I’m not alone in this aching of heart. I read stories of others also separated from their loved ones.
Let us encourage our hearts today that those whom we have entrusted to the Lord, we can know He is faithfully at work to call them home to a right relationship with Him, and unhindered fellowship once again.
Keep watching out on the horizon for their return. Don’t lose hope or faith in the Lord’s work in their lives. He is drawing them to Himself with His cords of love.
When I was younger a hymn of invitation to come to the Lord for salvation would often be sung at the end of a sermon. Here are the lyrics:
Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling (Come Home)
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me;
see, on the portals He’s waiting and watching, watching for you and for me.
Refrain:
Come home, come home; you who are weary come home; earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home!
Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading, pleading for you and for me? Why should we linger and heed not His mercies, mercies for you and for me?
Refrain
Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing, passing from you and from me; shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
coming for you and for me.
Refrain
O for the wonderful love He has promised, promised for you and for me! Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon, pardon for you and for me.
Beloved, time is fleeting! The older we get, the more we realize the brevity of life. This realization makes me cry out all the more, “Father, may they come to their senses quickly, that our fellowship may be restored. Do a quick work in their hearts, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.”
Let’s close with this reminder of how much our Shepherd loves His ‘lost sheep’ and how valuable they are to Him.
“For the Son of Man is come to save that which was lost. How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.” (Matthew 18:11-14)

| 6 | “For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?” (1 Corinthians 14:7-8)
Beloved, have you lost your saltiness — your light in this world? Have you become “good for nothing?”
Father, Thank You for the clear warning from Your Word about the danger of losing our saltiness — of becoming diluted by friendship with the world and tolerance of what You call sin.
LORD, use this message to awaken Your people. Stir hearts that have grown comfortable with compromise. Convict those who have blended in with the darkness instead of shining as lights. Help many to examine themselves and ask honestly whether they have lost their saltiness.
Give courage to those who read this to speak truth in love, to warn the wicked, and to refuse the false “love” that tolerates what grieves You.
Let pure religion — keeping ourselves unspotted from the world — be restored among those who call themselves by Your Name.
Keep us all set apart, Father. Sanctify us through Your Truth. Keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, and let us remain good for something — useful in Your Kingdom until Jesus returns, in Jesus Name. Amen.

| 7 | “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the Word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.” (Philippians 2:15-16)
As we look around us today at the church — those who are called by His Name (CHRISTians) what do we see but so much mixture — so much confusion, and — so much darkness.
Beloved, it should not be so. The LORD is not a God of confusion.
“For God is not the author of confusion.” (1 Corinthians 14:33)
We celebrate celebrities and leaders who claim to be Christians, yet support the LGBTQ and transgender community, even lauding homosexual marriage as a good thing — because “love is love.”
Does it grieve your heart to see this moral ambiguity and compromise — and conformity to the world like it does mine? Like it does the LORD’s?
The LORD through James, tells us that pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father, is to keep ourselves unspotted from the world. (James 1:27)
But you say, “look at all the good works these people are doing, or did.”
Beloved, we can do many good works in His Name, but if our lives are lived in compromise to His Word, and conformity to the standards of this world, we are walking in direct opposition to the LORD.
Many will say they did good works in His Name on the day of judgment, but they will be turned away by the LORD, who requires purity of heart and obedience to His commands.
“Many will say to Me in that day, LORD, LORD, have we not prophesied in Thy Name? and in Thy Name have cast out devils? and in Thy Name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:22-23)
Jesus said the way to show your love for Him is by keeping His Word.
“If ye love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14:15)
There is confusion brought on by those claiming to love God, but walking in disobedience to His Word.
We are not to tolerate sin, and we certainly aren’t to continue in our sin. Tolerance does not equal love — tolerating sin and not warning of its consequences is really the most hate-filled thing we can do.
It is also disobedience to God’s Word and will bring severe consequences for both us and the one whose sin we are tolerating.
Read the Words of the LORD through His prophet, Ezekiel.
“When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.” (Ezekiel 3:18-21)
Are we judging these people? After all, we don’t know a person’s heart, do we? Only the LORD knows that.
But, we are told to judge by the fruits in a person’s life. Calling out rotten fruit is not hate — it is love, and it is obedience to the LORD, even as we face attacks by those who would tell us tolerance is the way of love — the way of God.
Yes, God forgives sinners, and we are in need of His forgiveness too, but He always tells us, “Go and sin no more.”
If we don’t sound a clarion call — who will? We are told to speak His truth — whether or not they listen. We are doing so because we love God and we love others.
We can’t send mixed messages that don’t align with the Word of God. | 61 |
| 8 | Good for Nothing
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” (Matthew 5:13)
Imagine a block of salt placed into water. At first it remains intact, but soon little by little the salt dissolves. You might not notice it at first, but the very fact it’s in the water allows the breaking down of the salt.
We might think that being in the water, the saltiness will spread and affect the water — give it flavor. It might for awhile, but the more diluted, and the more water that’s added, the salt will lose its saltiness.
If we apply this to our lives, I believe we can see the analogy — and the danger we are warned about by the Word of the Lord.
We will lose our saltiness — instead of salting the world, instead we will be diluted and “good for nothing.”
Here is what the Word of God says about the danger and the consequences of placing ourselves in the world, and allowing ourselves to be enthralled and allured by the desires of our flesh.
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” (1 John 2:15-17)
Not only do we lose our saltiness — the Lord says we become at enmity, and enemies of Him. He likens it to adultery.
“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” (James 4:4)
We were chosen “out of the world.”
“If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” (John 15:19)
When Jesus prayed for us, He wasn’t praying for “the world” — He was praying for those of us who He has called “out of the world.”
“I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which Thou hast given Me; for they are Thine.” (John 17:9)
How can we be “in the world”, and not “of the world?”
“And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world.” (John 17:11)
“I pray not that Thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that Thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” (John 17:15-16)
His Word is the vessel we remain in — in the midst of the world.
“Sanctify them through Thy Truth: Thy Word is Truth. As Thou hast sent Me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.” (John 17:17-18)
We are to be set apart. A city on a hill — or a beacon on an island in the midst of the sea. We are to be a lighthouse.
When we become like the world — we lose our saltiness and our testimony.
I want to address something that weighs heavily on my heart right now. That is tolerating what the LORD says is evil, in the name of love — and often in the Name of Jesus Christ.
The world says we must be tolerant to show love. Tolerance and acceptance of all is the way to show love.
But the Word disagrees. One example of many is the church at Thyatira. This church was rebuked by Jesus for tolerating sin.
Jesus said this to them, “I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.” (Revelation 2:20)
When we say we are Christians, yet live lives of tolerance, we bring confusion to those watching us. More importantly, we grieve the LORD.
How can we light the darkness around us if we too are dark? We are to be His lights — His salt in the midst of the darkness of this world — not blend in with it, or become like it and diluted. | 60 |
| 9 | Beloved, though not all things that have happened, or will happen in our lives are good, the LORD will use each thing!
If I had not gone through the struggles I have in my life, God could not use me in the ways He does! The same is true for each of His children!
Had I not experienced first hand struggles in certain areas, I would have no empathy for others going through that same struggle! He comforts us, so we can comfort others!
2 Corinthians 1:3-6
Blessed be God, even the Father of our LORD Jesus Christ, the Father of Mercies, and the God of all Comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
Not all things are good — but the LORD is Good, and He is Faithful!
Nahum 1:7
The LORD is Good, a Strong Hold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that trust in Him.

| 10 | It’s Not All Good!
When you think back on your life, you can more than likely say, it was not all good! At least I can!
We are not promised our lives will be without pain, hurts, struggles, or needs!
We are promised that in the lives of His children, He will use each of these things for His purposes!
How many things does the Word of God say that He will cause to work together for good? One or two?
No, beloved, it says, He causes ALL things to work together for good!
Romans 8:28-32
And we know that ALL things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He did predestinate, them He also called: and whom He called, them He also justified: and whom He justified, them He also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
Beloved, because we know that God is for us, and walking with us through our lives, we know that He will also bring good from the bad things that happen in our lives!
The Apostle Paul knew better than most how God can take a life of struggles, and use each of those struggles and obstacles as a testimony of His faithfulness!
Nothing we go through in this life can separate us from Him, nor can any power of the enemy separate us from His love!
Romans 8:35-39
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our LORD.
Paul recounts some of the troubles he had thus far encountered in his life, to the church at Corinth!
2 Corinthians 11:24-29
Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not?
I often turn to the story of Jeremiah, because he speaks so beautifully of both our struggles, and of the LORD’s mercy and faithfulness!
Lamentations 3:19-26
Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me. This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

| 14 | All of This
The LORD promises all of this for the righteous — those who trust in Him with all their hearts.
Are you anxious or fearful of anything in your life — or of things to come?
Fix your heart and put your trust in the LORD!
I needed this reminder today, beloved, and I’m certain I’m not alone in that.
Read these Words over and over. Faith comes by hearing His Words — not the words of doctors, or economists, or philosophers, or any other words of man — God’s Words!
“Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in His commandments.
His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour. The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.” (Psalm 112:1-10)
Father, thank You that when our hearts are fixed on You, and our trust is in You, no weapon the enemy forms against us will prosper. You provide our every need. Even each hair on our head is numbered by You.
Thank You that our children and grandchildren will be mighty warriors for You on this earth, and blessed in every way.
You bring light into every dark place we walk. You see everything to do with us, both in the past, now, and the things to come. Nothing catches You off guard, or by surprise.
We praise You that You hold us in Your hands, and by our hand, as we walk through this life together. Help us to look up to You — always keeping You as our focus — looking ahead to the joy set before us, just as Jesus did. We love You, LORD — we delight in Your Words in Jesus’ Name.

| 15 | But we also have a way out — a way to an unbroken fellowship with our Father — confession of our sin to Him.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
David was called by the LORD, “A man after Mine own heart, which shall fulfil all My will.” (Acts 13:22) Yet David still sinned.
He even had to be confronted by the prophet Nathan about his sin. “Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.” (Psalm 51:2-3)
But like David, when we are convicted by the Spirit of God about sin in our lives, and we acknowledge our sin, confess it, and turn away from it, we too will experience the restoration of what David called the “joy of Thy salvation.”
“Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation.” (Psalm 51:12)
Let each of us pray as David did, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)
Father, Thank You for this reminder that none of us can stand before You in our own righteousness, and that only through the cleansing blood and robe of righteousness provided by Jesus can we approach Your holy throne.
LORD, use this message to stir hearts. Bring many to their own “Woe is me!” moment of recognizing their need for a Savior. Draw the lost to repentance and faith in Christ.
For those who already know You, restore the joy of Your salvation wherever sin has dimmed their fellowship with You.
Search our hearts today, Father. Show us any wicked way in us, cleanse us, and lead us in the way everlasting. Clothe us afresh in the righteousness of Your Son. In His holy Name we pray. Amen

| 16 | Are Your Hands Clean?
Do you have clean hands and a pure heart? Not one person living, besides Jesus, can say, “Yes, I have lived this life and kept Myself pure — My heart is pure, and My hands are clean.”
Yet, in order to approach the throne of God and live with Him in eternity — His Word tells us that’s what we are required to have.
“Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in His holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.” (Psalm 24:3-5)
Our hearts are deceitful and wicked, but we still hear so many people say, “Trust your heart” or “Just follow your heart.”
Our hearts are not to be trusted. The Word of the LORD says this — “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)
But thanks be to God, through our LORD Jesus Christ — He can make our hearts pure and our hands clean — no matter how wicked we have been — when we turn to Him in faith for cleansing.
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)
When we “put on” Christ — we are clothed with the robe of righteousness!“
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” (Galatians 3:26-27)
“I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.” (Isaiah 61:10)
Isaiah spoke those inspired Words, because he knew how it felt to come before the throne of God and feel his own unworthiness and uncleanness. Below, he recounts his encounter with the holiness of the LORD.
“In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and His train filled the temple. Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.” (Isaiah 6:1,5)
Beloved, have you recognized your uncleanness and your need for His cleansing? We must each come to the place we see our need for a Savior, and turn to Him in repentance. We must each have our own “Woe is me!” moment.
Not one of us is good enough in ourselves to attain unto righteousness.
“The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Psalm 14:2-3)
Again Isaiah speaks about this, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” (Isaiah 64:6)
When we do “come to our senses” and recognize our need — turning to Him to be clothed in His righteousness — He cleanses us from all our sin and gives us His righteousness.
“For He hath made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
I love the passage below, because it shows us how the LORD views a person who has been born again through faith in Jesus Christ.
“The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath He recompensed me. Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His eyesight.” (Psalm 18:20,24)
When we are “in Christ” — the LORD sees His sacrifice for our sins. He sees His righteousness covering us.
If you are like me, your own heart will still condemn you at times. Though we are made righteous in Him — in reality we know we still sin. | 106 |

“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22)

| 18 | Father, Thank You for this reminder that You are our Shepherd — the One who leads us, even when the path is rocky, painful, and hard to understand.
LORD, we bring before You the heaviness many are carrying today, caused by the storms along our path, deep sadness we are experiencing because of sickness, or separation from a loved one, and the many trials that have marked the road of our lives.
You see every tear. You know every ache in our hearts. Father, give us Your perspective in this season. Help us to trust that You are leading us on the path that works Your eternal purposes — even when it feels rocky and long.
Remind us that the afflictions of this life are light and momentary compared to the eternal weight of glory You are preparing.
Strengthen us, LORD, to keep our eyes on You, our Shepherd. Walk with us through every valley. Comfort us with Your rod and staff. Let us know that You are not watching from a distance — You are right there with us, step by step.
For the prodigals in our lives, we pray again that you bring them to the end of themselves. Cause them to come to their senses and return home — to You and to their families. Do whatever it takes, LORD, to make their hearts, and ours, completely Yours.
Help us to rest in the truth that You will deliver us out of all our afflictions, and that goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives. Lead us safely Home.
Thank You that we are not alone. Encourage our hearts today. Let us feel Your nearness and Your peace that passes all understanding, in the Name of Jesus Christ our Shepherd. Amen. | 193 |
| 19 | He Leads Me
Have you ever asked the LORD, “Why are you taking me down this rocky path when the path over there is so smooth and clear?”
Do we really trust our Shepherd to lead us on the path that He knows works His purposes in our lives?
We might say, “LORD, look how easily those others are walking down that smooth path, can’t we go that way too?”
Beloved, we must trust that our Shepherd knows what the things are ahead on the path that appears so smooth, that would be harmful to us — turning us from His purposes.
The rocky path is often the only way to His eternal purposes for us.
Sometimes He leads us beside still waters — but more often He calms the raging waves and storms we encounter.
These trials and obstacles are working something far more important for us. Paul said it this way, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” (2 Corinthians 4:17)
We can’t see ahead — but our Shepherd can. He knows what is best for us.
Our flesh wants ease and comfort. We don’t enjoy conflicts and trials. We look at what is happening right now, and the pain we feel, instead of seeing this as part of His purpose for us.
We need to say, “LORD, give me Your perspective on this. Use this trial to work Your eternal purposes in my life, and in the lives of those I’ve entrusted to You.”
Paul goes on to say this, “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18)
The LORD is my Shepherd! I can trust my life and the lives of those I bring to Him in prayer into His hands. He will provide all we need. “The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1)
Sometimes the path will be lovely and green with beautiful babbling brooks that bring calm and rest to our souls, “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.” (Psalm 23:2)
But often the road will be filled with obstacles and hardships — things that will keep us dependent on the LORD, and faithful to Him. “
David knew that afflictions were used by the LORD, to turn him back to the righteous path — walking with his Shepherd leading the way, not his own fleshly desires for the temporary pleasure of sin. “Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy Word.” (Psalm 119:67)
Our Shepherd will lead us through the afflictions and deliver us safely into His kingdom. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” (Psalm 34:19)
My Mom told me once that her favorite Bible passage was, “It came to pass.” She would go on to say — “It didn’t come to stay.” Her point was that though we will encounter trials in this life — we will make it through them with our Shepherd’s help.
As the scripture above tells us, “The LORD delivereth him out of them all.”
Beloved, are you on a rocky path right now? Are you wondering if the path ahead will ever be smooth again?
I’ve heard it said, “you’re either in a storm, just walked through one, or are about to encounter one.” Sometimes we’re in the calm before or after the storm.
In every case, we must look ahead to our Shepherd — Eyes on Him. We must trust Him to lead you through to the other side. Our Shepherd does not just watch us from a distance — He walks with us through every twist and turn along the way.
Make these Words, inspired by the Holy Spirit, your words, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4)
Take comfort in His Word today and know without a shadow of doubt that it is He Who leads you and you can rest — even on the road filled with rocks and thorns, and dangers on every side — knowing He will lead you safely Home. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the House of the LORD for ever.” (Psalm 23:6)

| 20 | The “end” of our faith — the goal — is not to have faith for the sake of getting whatever we desire, or even having the ability to move mountains, or command trees to replant themselves elsewhere.
As Peter tells us above — the end goal is our salvation, “Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”
“But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:11-12)
LORD, increase our faith. Thank You that though we haven’t moved any mountains — You’ve given us enough faith to believe You. May our faith grow more and more until the day Jesus returns. In Jesus’ holy Name we pray. Amen.
