AN OPEN LETTER TO U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE MIKE POMPEO 27/5/2020 The Honorable Mike Pompeo Secretary of State U.S. Department of State 2201 C Street NW Washington, DC 20520 On the annual review of Hong Kong’s autonomy under the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act (Pub.L. 116–76) Dear Secretary Pompeo, We, the undersigned, write as Hongkongers to express our grievances over the draconian national security legislation soon to be foisted on us unilaterally by Beijing. This constitutes the deliberate abuse of a system to which we have been promised continuity, of our way of life to which we have been promised no change, and of our right to live freely without fear. We ask the Secretary of State, in his upcoming review of Hong Kong’s autonomy, to recommend sanctions and a decertification of Hong Kong’s special status, in accordance with the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act.
